Asian Wedding Venues FAQ
What is the average price of an Asian wedding venue in the UK?
Since Asian weddings traditionally have a larger guest list, typically the cost of an Asian wedding venue will be more than a western wedding. On the other hand, some couples choose to dry-hire a space, which will bring the cost of the venue down – but it’s important to consider that you’ll still have to budget for everything else.
In many cases, most Asian wedding venues will typically offer a package cost per head, which includes both hire of the space and food and drink. This can range anywhere from £80 to £250 per person. Of course, everything from the type of venue to the guest list size, food choices and overall level of extravagance will impact the overall cost.
It’s previously been reported that, on average, Asian couples in the UK are spending anywhere between £50,000-£80,000 on their wedding, while others spend in excess of £100,000 for multi-day celebrations. Smaller venues in less expensive locations could start from around £4,000, while in premium cities like London, the price can go up to £15k.
“Typically, Sikh, Muslim and Hindu couples will have a starting budget of around £30,000 simply because of the number of rituals involved in the celebrations, along with a large guest list which can reach up to 1,000 attendees,” reveals luxury wedding planner Anisha Vasani.
“Asian weddings will almost always have a large guest list,” agrees Gurdev from Ram Singh Photographers. “It’s always a good idea to visit several venues and get detailed quotes to understand the full cost, what’s included in that cost, and what’s allowed.
“Asian weddings can be elaborate, and costs can add up quickly,” he adds. “Set a realistic budget early on and prioritise what matters most. If you value the food and drink or the décor, for example, allocate more funds to those areas and consider more cost-effective options in other areas.”
What should I look for in an Asian wedding venue?
As with weddings of all kinds, some of the most important things to consider when booking your venue include the logistics – can it cater to your planned guest numbers and, probably most important of all, does it fit within your budget?
You’ll also want to think about the style of the venue – does it align with your couple aesthetic and creative vision, and have the facilities and space you need for your perfect day? Everything from the food to ambience should be considered.
“Start planning in advance and get your venue, ceremony and entertainment sorted first. Then you can start to plan the smaller details around these elements,” says Gurdev. “Having a coordinator who is experienced in planning Asian weddings is a must – it’ll really help you to manage the workload,” he adds.
And finally, but by no means least, can the venue accommodate all the traditional rituals that will form part of your celebrations?
Other things you might also want to consider include accommodation options for you and your guests, the venue’s policies on certain decorations – such as confetti – and adequate transport or parking, particularly those couples with a larger guest list.
Which venues are best for large Asian weddings?
The venue you choose will very much depend on your personal taste, but the first places to start looking at are those which can cater to larger guest lists. Council buildings and city centre hotels tend to be great options, not only are they easily accessible and have plenty of rooms for guests to stay over but they also tend to have large event spaces or ballrooms that can be adapted to suit guest numbers.
Elsewhere, don’t discount classic country houses, castles and – of course – palaces, particularly those that can accommodate larger numbers within the grounds of the venue with the help of a marquee or stretch tent.
Do Asian wedding venues include catering and décor packages?
Many Asian wedding venues will include catering and décor in their packages, often with the option to customise the finer details based on your specific cultural traditions and requirements. Like other inclusive packages, they may also include other vital parts of the day, such as an in-house coordinator and accommodation.
Always check which décor elements are included, however. Many Asian wedding venues will include things such as LED lighting, red carpets, candelabra and other basic table items, but you might want to reach out to a wedding stylist for more bespoke pieces or larger items such as Mandaps and Nikkah staging.
Can I bring my own caterer to an Asian wedding venue?
Many wedding venues, particularly those that frequently host Asian weddings, will give you the option to bring in your own caterers but you’ll need to confirm this before you book. In some cases, venues don’t allow external caterers or will charge you additional fees in order to have them.
Of course, if you’re booking a venue on a dry-hire basis, then you will be required to book your caterer separately.
Do these venues allow religious ceremonies on site?
If a venue is known to specialise in Asian weddings, it’s more than likely that it will be able to accommodate religious ceremonies and blessings. They may also be able to help with specialised set-ups such as Mandaps, but always check this before you sign the dotted line. The most important thing is that your venue is experienced in hosting such celebrations.
“It’s important to honour traditional customs but also pinpoint what’s most important to you and your partner,” says Gurdev. “This might give you the opportunity to customise aspects of the ceremony and décor, and even blend cultural traditions with modern elements.”
