Stand Out Ceremonies - non-religious wedding ceremonies by Karen Faulkner
It’s my life mission to ensure wedding ceremonies are one of the best, most joyful, relaxed bits of your day; not the part some couples (and guests!) might dread! Start your day off with a ceremony that reflects how you mean to go on!
I create unforgettable ceremonies using creative flair and a passion for doing things differently! Whether you want some special touches included to reflect your personalities, to get married somewhere unusual, or to realise the crazy ceremony vision in your wildest dreams; I will work with you to capture your ideas and combine with my experience to create a truly unique ceremony that you'll remember forever.
Your ceremony will be delivered with warmth, sensitivity and fun. You can relax and enjoy every minute, knowing I will ensure everything is exactly as you dreamed it would be, and above all ‘perfectly you’.
Why work with me?
Firstly, because you will get a stand-out ceremony! I am a modern, creative celebrant with a passion for creativity and writing a sincere, authentic ceremony that reflects you as a couple. Freedom from a civil ceremony format gives you the opportunity to do things differently; I can work with you to understand what that might be, whether it's writing your own vows or including something to symbolise your new unity. Secondly I come from a professional background with lots of experience in project and event management. This means I carefully manage each stage of the process (and ceremony!) to ensure it is stress-free throughout. Lastly, you have the assurances of my accreditation with Humanists UK. My accreditation gives you the assurance I have passed rigorous Humanists UK training standards (which has the quality mark from the Open College Network), have the necessary insurances in place, and work as part of a network of celebrants sharing best practice and the latest ceremony ideas (and if the worst happens (and it never has yet!) and I can't get to your ceremony then another celebrant in my local network can step in!). Humanist Ceremonies are the longest standing provider of non-religious ceremonies and. 98% of feedback received awards us 5/5!
Choosing a celebrant is an important decision - feel free to call me so we can have an informal chat and you can get a feel for me, and the stand out ceremony you'll get on your ever-so-special day!
Karen was the celebrant for our wedding last month. She was fantastic from our first contact, right through to providing us with most perfect wedding ceremony.
She took on board all our ideas and created the most personal, professional ceremony that our guests are still talking about!
Karen is passionate about creating exactly what you are looking for. We could not have wished for a better person to have in charge of our ceremony.
If you are looking for a celebrant, then look no further. Karen is the best!!!
Karen really managed to capture the perfect balance of humour and sincerity. We have had so many wonderful comments on how much our guests enjoyed the ceremony. One such comment being "I usually find this part of the day really boring but yours was the first I've smiled all the way through, and not just because I had a gin in my hand!"
Anywhere and everywhere! Humanist weddings have taken place on ski slopes and hot air balloons - the sky’s the limit!
I live on the border of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire but am happy to travel further.
A humanist wedding is one led by a humanist celebrant (like me!). Humanists are non-religious and the charity Humanists UK started delivering ceremonies for non-religious couples over a hundred years ago to give them access to a meaningful ceremony with someone they work with and know (rather than a short and sometimes impersonal civil service).
We recognise you may want to include religious texts or songs in your ceremony - that's absolutely fine - I just can't lead any acts of worship myself.
In Scotland and Northern Ireland Humanist weddings are legally binding marriages. Humanists UK is in the process of campaigning to achieve the same in England and Wales (and is part of a current review announced in Autumn 2018) which we hope will be the case within the near future.
Until then the legally binding parts of the ceremony; that is the ‘declaratory’ words (I know not of any lawful impediment) and ‘contracting’ words (calling upon your witnesses) needs to be said in a register office to recognise your marriage in law. The rest of a ‘traditional’ ceremony is purely ceremonial and can be done wherever, whenever and however you like, as part of a humanist wedding.
You can choose to mention this (for example ‘we are celebrating the marriage which took place this morning’) or not; most people don’t even notice the declaratory and contracting words are missing! You can even choose to sign a certificate of humanist wedding as part of the ceremony if you wish.
You will need to make a short appointment at the registry office separately (these slots vary by price so if you are flexible then take advantage of a midweek morning slot!)
It is a frustration for us that this compromise currently has to be made - but if you are prepared to make it then in return you get so many options and the freedom to create a truly special ceremony!
That’s fine - not many people have a clear idea from day one! At the first planning meeting I will go through a questionnaire with you to understand the type of ceremony will suit you as a couple. I will also provide inspiration and ideas to what can be achieved to achieve a stand out ceremony.
Choosing a celebrant is about who is right for you - it's someone very important to your big day and who you choose will set the tone for your ceremony. As well as looking at their training and experience, it's really down to who you get on with!
I'm an outdoorsy type, a bit obsessed with old buildings, and I have two young daughters and a boisterous puppy! I love music, from old gramaphone records through to the shouty-rock variety, with a specialism in the late 90s alternative scene!!
