It's Full of History

Driffield has a long history, stretching all the way back to the Bronze Age. A mound outside the town was excavated in the 19th century, revealing a knife, a dagger, and other artefacts dating to as far back as 2200 BC. It also boasts the remains of a Norman motte-and-bailey castle. The town's name is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086.

There's Lots to See and Do

There's plenty to enjoy in this picturesque town. Your guests can stroll along the scenic canal, browse the market that takes place every Thursday, and admire the two stately homes close by. If your wedding is in July, it may coincide with The Driffield Show, England's largest one-day agricultural show. Driffield is also full of interesting independent retailers alongside popular chain shops, so you can do some shopping too.

As soon as we stepped out of the car when we first visited Oaklands we felt almost giddy it was so beautiful. That feeling went right on through to even picking up our things the morning after the wedding. Not only is this place drop dead gorgeous, with absolutely anything you could want or need, the staff are also nothing short of excellent. Vicky, our on the day coordinator, especially had such a reassuring air about her for every one of our questions throughout the planning process and and on the day. I was one of those type A brides that come armed with a vision and a detailed chart - and they took it all in their stride and made sure we had the most perfect day. The day was everything we wanted and more. The private moment they make sure you have together before the wedding breakfast, and the magical outdoor first dance in the woods are particularly impressive touches. Johny was the most kind and attentive emcee and DJ. Absolutely made our night - including a special midnight countdown moment. It was perfect. If you are even thinking about booking this venue - DO IT!!!

Jodie and the team at Highfield were absolutely incredible in helping to organise our dream wedding weekend. We hired the venue from Friday lunchtime through to Sunday and were made to feel like royalty for the duration of our stay. We started the weekend with a BBQ for close friends and family on the Friday evening - unfortunately it poured it down with rain so we had to relocate inside - this was however no trouble at all and the staff changed up the grand hall into a beautiful dining room complete with candles and music. The salt beef was some of the best i have ever eaten and the prawns were huge!! All of our guests were looked after by the bar staff afterwards as we all enjoyed a few drinks in the parlour. On our wedding day, Vicki and the team were on hand to make sure that everyone had everything that they needed - including extra hash browns for the bridesmaids! Again, the rain meant that we couldn't have the outdoor ceremony that we had hoped for but this was no problem - the Grand Hall became the most beautiful room i have ever seen and the staff were so quick to organise our guests. Throughout the rest of the day, the team at Highfield could not do enough for us, whether this was ensuring that the bride and groom had a drink or wiping down Groomsmen and Bridesmaids after a spilt drink or two! The team were absolutely fantastic and were on a first name basis with a lot of guests by the end of the weekend. Special thanks go to Abbie, Harvey and Charlotte and also to Vicki who is a literal wonderwoman!! Our wedding breakfast meal was some of the tastiest food we have eaten and despite having nearly 80 guests, the staff ensured that everyone was fed and kept topped up with drinks as a priority. So many guests have complimented our menu and commented on the standard of the food being incredible! We cannot thank Highfield enough for everything that they have done for us and feel genuinely honoured to have been able to spend our wedding weekend with them. If you are thinking about booking your wedding at Highfield, do it! It will be the best decision you have ever made!!

We got married in Sledmere August 2021 and it was everything we could have dreamed of and more. If you are looking for a DIY wedding with the support and guidance of an amazing curator in Michaela look no further than Sledmere. I need to just comment on how amazing Michaela is, I am sure she has 100 things going on at once but she makes you and your wedding feel like the biggest priority she has. Her responsiveness and willingness to help and support was calming, even when we moved the whole wedding for covid reasons she helped and supported way more than I expected from a DIY wedding. Sledmere really is the venue of dreams. A country estate that give you access to the house and land for the ceremony and photos and then we chose the private barn to host our reception. We took some stunning photos with the house fountain and grounds. With the tractor and trailer allowing us to get around. The barn had 200 on the evening and even though it rained for some part of the evening it never felt cramped and the guests still comment how amazing the whole day and evening was. it did help that the suppliers we chose were just exceptional. Nabs Nosh doing the Food during the reception. Otley burgers doing the evening food and Tonics Bar running the bar for us. We stayed onsite at the coach house and this was also just as spectacular. the bride and her bridesmaids stayed and got ready here before the wedding and i joined her for the other 2 nights.
