Best Wedding Dress Shops in London: FAQ
What areas in London are best for wedding dress shopping?
You’ll find a wealth of great wedding dress shopping spots in London, but where you head may depend on what you’re looking for.
Tucked away in East London you’ll find some of the most modern names in bridal design – it’s also home to boutiques that will offer a great selection of alternative wedding dresses and super-wearable bridal separates.
If you’re looking for luxury designer gowns on a range of budgets, many of the wedding dress shops in Central London are best for this, while West London is home to a plethora of luxury designers who will work with you to create a made to measure or couture gown from scratch.
When should I start shopping for a wedding dress in London?
“Brides should start looking at least 12 months before their wedding date as it usually takes a minimum of 6-8 months to have a dress made and delivered if ordering from a boutique,” says Blackburn Bridal Couture’s Russell Blackburn.
“Ideally you should also allow around 2-3 months on top of that for any alterations.”
Do London bridal boutiques require appointments?
Like most wedding dress shops in the UK, most bridal boutiques across London will require you to make an appointment before you visit.
“I’d say around 95% would ask you to do so, and any that don’t perhaps won’t give you the same level of service and advice,” says Russell. Note that most will also charge for appointments – this is to deter no-shows – but often this cost is redeemable against the cost of your dress if you choose to purchase from the store.
“My best advice is to pick two or three wedding dress shops which carry designers and dress styles that you love to make it truly worth your while,” says Russell.
Are there second-hand wedding dress shops in London?
You may find second hand wedding dress shops in London, but more often than not pre-loved bridalwear is likely to be found in stores that specialise in second-hand designer clothing rather than a wedding-specific boutique. In most cases, it’s worth checking out resale sites such as eBay, The Loop and Vestaire Collective to find what you’re looking for.
Don’t forget too, that some of the wedding dress shops listed above allow nearlyweds to rent their wedding outfit, if you’re looking for a more sustainable option.
Where can I find vintage wedding dresses in London?
In addition to the online second-hand wedding dress shops listed above, Brides Do Good is another ethical London-based social enterprise that stocks more than 250 used dresses in its London showroom. Elsewhere, you’ll find a gorgeous selection of vintage-inspired wedding dresses at the likes of Rewritten, Lovely Bride, Saragaglia Couture and more.
