What can we say about a wedding at Borthwick? It was perfect.

We had almost no ideas when we set out to plan the wedding. Or a million ideas and nothing concrete. The moment we stepped inside Borthwick - the first venue on a list of many we were going to visit - we knew we’d get married there. We wanted a medieval castle that somehow both felt like a castle and like a luxury hotel; modern in the ways that mattered, but castle-y in every other possible way. Borthwick met that goal and then went way beyond it. The dining hall is spectacular. The ceremony space is gorgeous. Spending time on the lawn outside makes you feel like you’re in some kind of fantasy show.

And what could we say to do justice to the service? Our coordinator at the castle - Amy - was simply flawless. Not only did she handle almost a year’s worth of our constant questioning and requests with absolute aplomb, but when there were issues on the day of the wedding, she would come to us with a solution already worked out. Amy is one of the most professional and capable people I have worked with in any capacity and we could not recommend her enough.

We could go on. In the interest of space, we’ll just add that the chef’s team was absolutely phenomenal. We had *highly* bespoke requests and fantasized about a Michelin-quality dinner for our wedding. They delivered, and then some.

Ten out of ten. Eleven out of ten, even! Absolutely fantastic job by everyone at Borthwick and we could not recommend them more strongly.

We had such an amazing day without any hiccups it all went so smoothly thanks to the amazing staff that we cannot fault and all our guests, family and friends are saying the same thing. With exceptional food and service which made it perfect and we loved and enjoyed every minute spent there. Would highly recommend this venue as an out of this world experience and never to be forgotten !!

We had the absolute pleasure of getting married at Borthwick Castle in November 2025, and we cannot recommend this venue highly enough! From the moment we began planning our wedding, Aine was a shining star. Her support in the lead-up to our big day was invaluable. No request was too small or too wacky; she was always there to help us with anything and everything. Thanks to Aine, the wedding planning process was incredibly easy and stress-free, allowing us to fully enjoy the excitement leading up to our special day.

During the wedding weekend, the entire Borthwick team were total legends! Aine and Damien, in particular, went above and beyond to ensure that every detail was perfect. They truly made the weekend unforgettable. The team catered to every guest's needs, and every part of the celebration went even better than we had hoped!

Our son and his wife were recently married at Borthwick Castle. Although we live locally, the couple live in NYC and the bride’s family and friends in the States. Feedback from all our guests was that the day was magical from start to finish. We even had the Northern Lights come out to play towards the end of the evening! The staff at Borthwick were flawless in their support, guidance and communication before the event, Charlotte, in particular. The entire team surpassed themselves on the day itself with their professionalism, dedication and kindness. The venue itself is absolutely outstanding. The bed chambers are steeped in history which is combined with 5* luxury hotel accommodation. The meal was also first class. I don’t think I can say any more other than we thoroughly recommend Borthwick Castle as a first-class wedding venue.

In celebration of our marriage, my new husband (!!), family, and guests had the dreamiest weekend at Borthwick Castle. Every single detail was flawlessly managed and executed. The team running the castle was kind, helpful, and welcoming. I couldn't imagine a more magical place to host such an important life event.

We planned our wedding at the Borthwick from Arizona in the United States and it couldn’t have went smoother! They gave us tons of amazing vendors that they recommend and Aine was amazing in helping us coordinate ever aspect of the day before our wedding and our wedding day. The castle was beautiful, the food was out of this world, the service was top tier and all of the staff was so nice and helpful with everything that we needed throughout our time there. We only had 21 total guests, so everyone was able to stay there for the 2 nights. Everyone who attended was blown away by the venue and how great all the people that work there were throughout our stay. We couldn’t recommend this venue more. It was the most magical day of our lives and a lot of that goes to everyone at the Borthwick who helped us out before, during and after our big day.

Borthwick Castle is a stunning venue, so atmospheric with a real wow factor. The finish and comfort of the rooms is excellent and so was the food. The service team were discreet and professional, the whole team are very friendly and our day ran like clockwork. We would 100% recommend Borthwick as a venue, we couldn't be happier with how our wedding went. Although the setting is rather grand, the castle is intimate and cosy and we were made to feel at home throughout our stay. Perfect, perfect, perfect!

We got married in October 2024 at Borthwick Castle and we had the best day ever! Nothing was too much trouble for the Borthwick team. They accommodated our last minute decision to do an evening ceilidh, various Spotify playlists, photobooth, DIY decor, access needs for less mobile guests, and our various dietary requirements (the kitchen agreed to work with us to deliver an entirely gluten-free environment for this coeliac bride, THANK YOU)! Our coordinator Amy was excellent throughout the whole planning process and on the day - she was a guiding light throughout the two years of planning, keeping us on track and working with us to design our day over a series of meetings, we’ll miss our zoom calls with her! The castle is warm and inviting with a beautiful, rich, unique style throughout the main areas, the bedchambers are gorgeous and comfortable, and the friendliness and professionalism of the team on the day did not go unnoticed by our guests - we had so many people approach us to let us know how impressed they were, particularly with the dinner service. The food itself was absolute heaven. We knew we loved the venue from our first video call/tour with Amy, but each time we visited we grew to love it more, and were unprepared for how much the castle would come to mean to us. It was truly a home from home for the wedding weekend but also like the most luxury hotel ever - after a long planning process we were able to trust in Amy and the team on the day so we could feel like the guests of honour rather than the hosts. We could not have chosen a more perfect venue to celebrate our wedding and if we could get married all over again we would pick Borthwick Castle every time!

I CANNOT recommend Borthwick enough! As a destination bride who did not see the venue beforehand it was AMAZING- even better than how I pictured it after pouring over pictures leading up to the day. Aine was so responsive and helpful, there was no question I could ask however small that Aine didn’t answer with care and attentiveness. I had multiple people tell me it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding and everyone was amazed by the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The entire staff was so helpful and constantly there for me and my now husband for anything we needed. The bedrooms were all amazing and the day was so magical- Borthwick couldn’t have made it any more perfect. Thank you so much to Aine and the Borthwick team!!

Borthwick Castle is the wedding venue that every little girl dreams about. My (now) husband and I are based in Boston, MA USA and we booked the castle without ever having visited Scotland (or Borthwick) in person. We knew we wanted to get married in a UK castle (ideally Scotland due to the history and culture) and decided on Borthwick from the pictures, online reviews and research I conducted on Scottish castle wedding venues. Borthwick stood out from the rest for a many reasons, but mainly the distance from Edinburgh (an international airport), the amount of people who can stay in the castle overnight (26, but 28 if you use the daybeds), how stunning the inside of the castle is and all the awards they win each year. I looked at multiple other venues, but couldn't get Borthwick out of my mind. When we got engaged I reached out to them and was connected to Aine who I worked with over the next year and a half of wedding planning. Aine was absolutely outstanding throughout the entire process. We exchanged well over two hundred emails, a video tour of the castle, a few zooms and an in person visit to handle all the tastings and such. A lot of people were shocked when I told them I booked a wedding in a country I had never been to at a venue I've never seen in person, but I never felt worried about it due to the help and support I received from Aine. No question went unanswered and no request was too "in the weeds." Aine helped me with everything.

When we arrived at Borthwick, with about 50 guests on Sunday, we were greeted by Borthwick staff at our shuttle bus with umbrellas and reassurance that we didn't need to touch any of our luggage. It would all be handled by the staff. We arranged for Sunday afternoon to have a Highland Games (arranged with Reel Time Events) and I was very worried all morning about the rain/flooding, but when we arrived the Borthwick staff had already worked with Reel Time to move the games inside the castle. I didn't need to do a thing! This was a theme during the entire Borthwick experience. I walked into the castle with the games set up and staff following me with guests luggage. We didn't need to touch the luggage during our entire stay with staff bringing them up and down the stairs for us. All we needed to do was enjoy. We played the games inside and after we were done, dinner was served! There was not a shred of food leftover, that's how good the food was! Everyone was thrilled and came up to me personally to compliment the food. The ice cream sandwiches were particularly amazing in my opinion. After dinner some of my guests were supposed to board a shuttle to their hotel and they were not wanting to leave Borthwick! Seriously, they wouldn't leave. Aine and the staff informed me they were trying to negotiate with the shuttle driver to come back later and asked me if I was okay with this. After I told Aine no the guests needed to leave for the evening Borthwick handled it for me! I thought I'd need to go and deal with my guests, but no! Borthwick staff was the best, they handled it without making me the bad guy. Above and beyond. That's the level of service you receive at Borthwick. They handle everything. We then had a dessert bar for the Borthwick guests. Quick side note, Borthwick takes allergies very seriously. I had a few allergy burdened guests and they had special options for them and were open to all my suggestions. For example, I asked for chocolate mouse for my GF guest and they said sure, no problem. They are extremely accommodating. Staff were there to assist us at all hours, including a man to light the fires in our rooms at night. Elegance and luxury all the way.

On the wedding morning, in the Gatehouse/bridal suite, breakfast arrived for me (and some of my bridal party) served in closhes. It was delicious, of course. And sandwiches arrived for lunch, with one custom made for me as requested. Aine arrived to help with day-of arrangements and updates on what was happening with the groom/groomsmen. I was moved throughout the day from thing to thing by Aine and our amazing photographers (Ryan White Photography), following the wedding schedule, without needing to look at my phone or watch the entire day. I only knew what time it was from memorizing my schedule. Aine handled everything, including making sure staff with canape trays came outside to the bridal party during photos to ensure we were fed. Get the mushroom tarts. Seriously, I ate eight of them. The staff were absolutely flawless. Dinner was outstanding with every guest fully cleaning their plates. I'm still hearing about the purple sauce for the venison two weeks later! We then had cake (made to look like Borthwick Castle by Liggys), dancing and finally an evening buffet.

I had people approaching me all day to compliment the venue, the food and the staff! My husband was so happy he grabbed me and told me it was the best day of his life (which with his mother recently passing was a very big deal as he said it was going to be a bittersweet day without her there). My guests told me it was like walking into a fairytale and the best wedding they have ever been to (or will go to!) Multiple people told me to quit my job and become a wedding planner. Little do they know, Aine was the mastermind behind the strings. She made me a legend among my friends and family. If you are thinking about being a Borthwick Bride, stop thinking and DO IT! You won't regret it. I had guests trying to pay Aine to stay more nights there and my bridal party asking if we can all rent it out again in a couple years. My bridesmaid who got married a month before me (at the Boston Fairmont Copley Plaza, a very fancy hotel in Boston) said the day after the wedding that during the wedding she considered getting divorced so she can get married again at Borthwick this time. Seriously. Thank you for everything Borthwick, its forever my happy place.

I have nothing but positive feedback for Borthwick Castle. We wanted to have a destination wedding in Scotland (we're based in the US) and lucked out with choosing Borthwick as a venue and with Aine as our wedding planner. It was incredibly easy to work with them over emails/zooms and Aine did a lot of the leg work to coordinate with our vendors since we weren't local. And the execution of the wedding was flawless; there is nothing we can think of that we would have improved over our experience. The castle and it's staff is a five-star experience with high levels of service, professionalism, and outright kindness. You won't regret choosing this venue for your wedding!
