Speech by Peter

I get very emotional doing things like this so I kept it short and sweet, you are only the warm up act after all....

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I'm Peter, the very proud father of the gorgeous bride Jessica. On behalf of everyone on this table I'd like to thank you all for coming and celebrating is special day with us.

I should probably make you aware from the very start at I lack any real experience as a speaker. I've spent over 30 years of my life living in a house with one, then two and finally three women so there have been few opportunities where I've been allowed to speak and even fewer opportunities where anyone's actually been listening.

At this point I'm supposed to welcome Adam into our family, but that's a bit awkward as he's actually been part of our family longer than Jess. For those that don't know Deb and I are Adams godparents and Sandra and Dayne are Jessica's.

Adam's a really lovely guy. I see a gentle giant with a big heart, a guy that loves my daughter very much, will do his utmost to make her happy and be a loving husband, he is also a pretty darn good left tackle, which we are grateful for as he could have been a tight end or a wide receiver….

We were very thrilled when Adam asked me for Jessica's hand, I did say he would have to take all of her and I had to point out the no return policy.

It's customary for me to deliver some embarrassing moment from Jessica's past, but I'm sorry to disappoint you all, she has far more embarrassing stories about me than I have of her, and I'm not going to upset anyone who can argue with a Volvo doing 30mph and walk away.

I was rather emotional walking her down the aisle, it was the most wonderful experience, one I have been waiting 25 years to do. I really couldn't be more proud of her, she has blossomed into one of the most beautiful people I know. I get the pleasure of dancing with her later and we are dancing to My Wish, the lyrics seem so poignant; my wish for you is at is life becomes all at you want it to, your dreams stay big, your worries stay small.

Today, Deb and I are so full of pride and happiness to see Jess and Adam start their new life adventure.

The 29 of April has been a notable day for memorable and historic unions, on is day 310 years ago The United Kingdom of Great Britain was formed, and more recently, 27 years ago, on this day, East and West Germany became one as the wrecking balls tore down the Berlin Wall. I know that this union that we have had the pleasure of being part of today. will be just as memorable.

It's also tradition that I impart some advice for the happy couple, Well Deb and I have been together for over 30 years, and I haven't got a clue how we did it or what the secret is – but we did it! One thing's for sure, it's not easy, it's an equal relationship but both of you will find that you are contributing 70%.

It's very much like driving along a road,

It can be nice and smooth.

Sometimes it can be slippery.

There can be obstacles in the way,

And you can go round in circles,

Conditions are sometimes bumpy and you can't see through the mist

But remember the most important of all… GIVE WAY!

My final duty and very great privilege is to propose a toast to our daughter and new son-in law. So would you please join me in raising a toast to our radiant bride and handsome groom.

Here's to the past, for all that you've learned.

Here's to the present, for all that you share.

Here's to the future, for all that you look forward to together.

Jessica and Adam
