Booking Your Wedding Florist UK: Checklist & FAQ

A wedding florist setting up a centrepiece at a wedding.

Our mini guide to booking your florist and choosing your flowers will ensure you don’t miss a thing

When should I hire a wedding florist?

Like all popular wedding suppliers, the best wedding florists will get booked up to 12-18 months in advance, so it’s worth getting in early if your date is set and it falls within peak wedding season.

The earlier you contact your florist, the better, but aim for around 9-12 months ahead of the big day.

How much should I allocate for wedding flowers in the UK?

Yes, you can have beautiful bouquets and flower arrangements for your wedding without maxing the credit card – it’s about knowing where you can save and the hacks that will help you get more bang for your buck.

If flowers are an important part of your day, a good rule of thumb is to allocate around 8-15% of your budget to your bouquets and arrangements. Our National Wedding Survey found that the average wedding in the UK now costs £23,250 – so if you’re looking at spending this much, a budget of anywhere between £1,800-£3,500 would be standard.

Want to cut back without compromising on style? Below are some easy ways to cut costs on your blooms:

  • Be led by the seasons: Seasonal and locally sourced flowers will be cheaper since they require fewer logistics. Think muscari, fragrant freesias and dried craspedia for pretty pops of colour in spring; heavily scented roses, snapdragons, larkspur, phlox, marjoram, peonies and sunflowers for summer; dahlias, achillea, herb foliage such as bay, and wheat are all gorgeous options for a wild and rustic autumnal arrangement; while succulents, scabiosa seed heads, eucalyptus, senecio cineraria and thistles are perfect for winter.
  • Incorporate foliage: Greenery such as eucalyptus and ivy can be bought wholesale and comes in much cheaper than flowers. Use it to decorate your venue and fill your bouquet, with just a few flower heads here and there. Not only will it smell incredible, but you’ll be able to keep it at home after it’s dried.
  • Choose plants as table decorations: Similarly, you can adorn your tables with the prettiest potted plants which can look really stunning (and make great gifts for members of the wedding party to plant in their garden as a memento of the day), rather than pay for expensive arrangements that take time to create.
  • Go big with your blooms: We’re talking in terms of head size – not numbers! Choosing larger-headed flowers will mean your florist won’t need as many to create impact in your arrangements. They can be mixed with herbs and foliage to add abundance.

What flower styles are trending right now?

According to our Hitched Trend Report, the search for pastel-coloured wedding flowers is on the up – as is the urge to incorporate fruits and herbs into arrangements for an overall more luxury guest experience.

With 2026 weddings enjoying a bit of a Bridgerton-style revival, the goal is to create textural and eye-catching tablescapes that look like something straight out of a still-life painting. You could even incorporate faux food to achieve a lasting w-day look.

Are artificial or dried flowers good options for weddings?

Dried or artificial flowers are both brilliant options for weddings, particularly if you’re working to a tight budget.

Forget any preconceptions about tacky faux blooms – modern-day silk varieties are now more realistic than ever and cost less than fresh varieties while offering a similar look. It also means you can be more adventurous with your arrangements, since it doesn’t matter if your chosen varieties are ‘out of season’.

Similarly, dried flowers are cost-effective, eco-friendly, look effortlessly chic and lend themselves particularly well to English countryside celebrations and rustic wedding themes. There are many wedding florists in the UK who specialise in dried flowers, so check before you book.
