The Ned, London: Hotel Review

The Ned is one of London's most talked about hotels, but what makes it so special as a wedding venue? We went along to find out!

Are you looking for the perfect London wedding venue? Or perhaps a beyond-luxurious mini-moon destination in the heart of the capital?

Whether you’re dreaming of a wedding day full of glamour, sophistication and perfect service or a mini-moon at one of London’s most-talked about destinations, The Ned really does tick all the boxes.

We packed our overnight bag and hopped on the tube to Bank to find out what makes The Ned such a special place to say ‘I do’…

It’s not often we’re lost for words here at Hitched. But anyone who’s had the pleasure of walking through The Ned’s grand, towering entrance will understand its stop-in-the-middle-of-the-doorway-while-your-jaw-hits-the-floor power.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll have no doubt heard of The Soho House Co’s latest venture. The Ned opened in Spring 2017 and it’s become London’s hottest spot for everything from pre-dinner cocktails to weddings ever since.

From the moment we step through the grand doors into the 3,000 square metre former banking hall, it’s clear to see why people descend on The Ned in their droves. The beautiful, iconic building – just down the road from the Bank of England and the Stock Exchange, and around the corner from St Paul’s Cathedral – has clearly been lovingly restored, and manages to retain all of the original character while celebrating its history. Already we couldn’t picture a more perfect spot for some seriously impressive wedding photos!

When we arrive, there’s a welcoming hubbub of chatter from people having afternoon cocktails at gorgeous polished cherrywood bars, chatting over tea and cake in Millie’s Lounge, and enjoying a leisurely lunch in Cecconi’s – just two of The Ned’s nine on-site restaurants.

Once we’ve stopped gawping at our surroundings we make it over to the check-in desk, where we’re greeted by the hotel’s super friendly staff and escorted to our room.

If vintage glamour and five-star comforts are your thing, then rooms at The Ned won’t disappoint. There’s a staggering 252 rooms in total, all of which have been carefully decorated with the building’s 94-year heritage in mind – with 1920s design and art deco touches.

Alongside the obscenely comfy bed and gorgeous bathroom (full of Cowshed goodies and a rainforest shower!) there are lots of little touches that really make the stay extra special – particularly for wedding couples. We loved the ‘Forgotten Something’ booklet of Net-a-Porter and Mr Porter goodies, which the hotel’s staff will order in for you at the press of a button – extra handy if your groom has a tendency to forget things, including his tie!

If you really wanted to push the boat out (and what better excuse than your wedding day!?) then The Ned’s Terrace Suite takes some beating. With its domed windows, four-poster king-size bed and private terrace, it really is the perfect place for you and your partner to toast your new life together.

Another added bonus for guests is access to areas usually reserved for members only. With that in mind, we headed to the roof to enjoy cocktails with impressive views of London’s skyline. If we’d remembered our swimming gear then you can bet we’d have been in the rooftop pool quicker than you can say Aperol Spritz!

Guests also have access to The Ned’s spa – perfect for any last-minute facials, manis and pedis – while the parlour means brides can have hair and make-up tended to just a lift-ride away from their ceremony.

Weddings at The Ned take place on the sixth floor, which boasts six rooms and two outdoor terraces with views across The City. The rooms have a capacity of between 10 and 200 guests, meaning whether you’re after an intimate affair or a more full-on gathering The Ned can cater for you. What’s more, the entire floor can be yours for the day, meaning you could have the ceremony in the Drawing Room, drinks reception in The Saloon, before moving to the impressive walnut-panelled Tapestry Room for your sit-down dinner.

The Ned’s latest addition is their Library Bar, which opened in Summer 2018. After hearing about the incredible martinis on offer we were keen to check it out, so following a delicious three-course dinner at Cecconi’s (the lobster pasta and pistachio profiteroles are a MUST!) we popped along for a few-post dinner drinks.

An intimate bar tucked behind a huge jacquard curtain, the bar boasts a menu of 30 champagnes but it was the martini trolley that caught our attention! Fast forward two hours, many chats with our wonderful mixologist and a few too many martinis later, and it was bedtime.

It’s not often a five-star hotel manages to offer total luxury but also makes you feel totally at home, but that’s exactly what The Ned and their wonderful team have managed to achieve. It’s this dedication to service and quality that makes The Ned a truly unique and special wedding venue, as well as an awesome mini-moon and martini destination!
