About
Ian Bursill — Wedding Photojournalist is a Lancashire-based wedding photography business, covering weddings across the North West, the Ribble Valley, and the East Midlands.
With 20 years of experience and over 450 weddings documented, I've built my reputation on one simple idea: your wedding day should belong to you, not your photographer. My approach is almost entirely unposed — I photograph the day as it actually happens, capturing the real moments and genuine emotions that you'll want to remember.
My work has been recognised at the highest level. I was named WPJA UK Photographer of the Year in 2009 and reached rankings of 1st in the UK, 2nd in Europe, and 3rd in the world through the Wedding Photojournalist Association. I also won Best Wedding Photographer for the East Midlands at the UK Wedding Industry Awards in 2012, 2014, and 2015. Those achievements reflect a career spent refining a documentary style that prioritises authenticity over artifice.
What that looks like in practice is straightforward. I work unobtrusively throughout the day — from the preparations through to the evening — so you and your guests can relax and be yourselves. The nervous excitement of getting ready, the heartfelt speeches, the spontaneous laughter on the dance floor — these are the moments that make your day yours, and they're what I'm there to capture.
I photograph a maximum of 30 weddings per year. That limit exists because every couple deserves proper time and attention, not just on the day itself but in the planning beforehand. I work closely with each couple to understand what matters most to them, offering guidance where it's helpful while always respecting that it's their day to enjoy.
The result is a collection of images that tells the honest story of your wedding — not a version of it staged for the camera, but the real thing. These are photographs you and your family will return to for years to come.
