We got married at Firhill in Newquay, and it was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we knew we’d chosen somewhere truly special. The setting is stunning — peaceful, beautifully kept, and full of character — the perfect backdrop for such an important day.

Our ceremony took place in the little 15th-century church up the drive, which was incredibly special and full of history. Walking back together through the apple orchard afterwards felt surreal — calm, romantic, and completely timeless. Being greeted with homemade cider made from Firhill’s own apples was such a personal and authentic touch, and something we — and our guests — will always remember.

One of the absolute highlights of our stay was the Mongolian yurts. They were cosy, comfortable, and beautifully done, adding a unique and memorable element to the whole experience. Waking up there after our wedding made the celebrations feel even more special, and our guests loved them just as much as we did.

Charlie, our host, truly made Firhill what it is. From the very beginning he was welcoming, genuine, and full of character. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble, and everything was handled with such care and warmth. By the end of our stay, Charlie didn’t just feel like our host — he felt like a friend, and that personal connection made our wedding even more meaningful.

Everything ran seamlessly, allowing us to relax and fully enjoy every moment. Our guests couldn’t stop commenting on how beautiful the venue was and how warm and welcoming the atmosphere felt. For everything that Firhill offers, the price was more than fair and represented incredible value, which made the whole experience even better.

We didn’t want our day to feel like ‘another wedding’, with the usual formulaic approach. Which is why we chose Fir Hill. A huge woodland estate. We spent the weekend with our friends and family, had the most magical woodland walk back from the historic village church after the service, and the rest of our day dancing, eating and celebrating with the entire estate as our stomping ground. Charlie is a terrific host, he planned the weekend alongside us and his enthusiasm for our ideas made us feel incredibly special.

The day before our wedding our friends and family started to arrive, staying in yurts on the grounds. The indoor facilities make ‘glamping’ that much easier with proper toilet and shower facilities, an indoor kitchen area in a large barn style setting with comfortable seating. We decorated the venue in our own style and way, and all our guests who were staying on site pitched in. The girls collected wild flowers from the woodland for the picnic tables , whilst others hung bunting and positioned straw bales. It was a great way to start the weekend with time for a huge game of rounders before settling down before the night.

As the bride I had access to the indoor upstairs area to get ready on the day and for some celebratory glasses with my bridal party. The group made their way to the church ready the service and I hitched a ride with Charlie and my dad. Colan church is small but beautiful, the bells rang and the organ began. After the service, we walked as a group for those who wanted to, back to the venue. We hung bunting along the track to the apple orchard where Charlie served the group cider as the entered. We had an accordion playing which added to the atmosphere. My husband and I had some photos taken in the grounds as the wedding party helped themselves to seafood chowder and buffet served by a third party supplier from the BBQ area. We hired a VW cocktail and beer bar and had a tequila table, sombrero included. We’d hired some garden games from a company but you could easily set something up yourself. We also had our own bell tent and filled it with kids toys for the children.

The amphitheatre area we’d set up with straw bales and blankets and the speeches began after lunch. It worked perfectly and my favourite photo of the entire day is of our entire wedding party toasting with the Prosecco poured by Charlie. Our ushers helped to keep everyone topped up!

This space can be whatever you want it to be, we had an acoustic duo, a band and a dj throughout the day. A pizza truck and coffee van also came to keep everyone fed and watered later into the evening.

If it had rained we would have been in the barn and under the marquee, but thankfully we didn’t need them. But the space and breakout areas made everyone comfortable.

If I could do it all over again I would. Fir Hill is a very special place and having the freedom to do whatever we want made it even better. Charlie will go out his way to make your day just as special if you choose this place for your day. I loved having our friends involved in the setup and it only made them also feel more connected to the day and the place. Roll on the 5 year anniversary party! Thank you Charlie

I cannot recommend this venue any higher. The location, the space and mostly how accommodating Charlie and Jack were. Nothing was too much trouble and anything we asked for or wanted to change was dealt with professionally and calmly. It was literally a dream from
Start to finish.

This venue is fantastic value for money. You get stunning views and plenty of space to play with. If you want DIY, rustic, festival, outdoorsy style wedding then this venue is definitely worth considering. It gives you the freedom to plan what you want and you’re not tied into any specific vendors or bar (the owner is on hand to help with recommendations if needed). Note it is DIY (with the owner on hand to help) so make sure everything you need is planned out for the day to go smoothly.

There is a beautiful church a 10minute walk away that you can get legally married at (it’s stunning, and everyone there is really friendly and lovely). Otherwise there’s a beautiful outdoor space for a ‘ceremony’ at the venue.

We had such a great, fun and relaxed ‘Wedfest’! Over the weekend we had a BBQ, Ceilidh dance (plenty of space for this), disco, large campfire, beautiful forest for photos, and more! From our experience we would definitely recommend this venue.
