Marwell Hall – A Historic Wedding Venue with a Wildly Beautiful Setting
Conveniently located near Winchester and nestled within 140 acres of breathtaking South Downs National Park countryside, Marwell Hall is a truly distinctive wedding venue where historic elegance meets an unforgettable natural setting.
This Grade I listed manor house has stood at the heart of this landscape for over 700 years, offering couples a romantic and atmospheric backdrop for their wedding day.
Wedding parties enjoy exclusive use of Marwell Hall, and for larger celebrations, exclusive use also extends to the Secret Garden and its elegant marquee — a private, landscaped space ideal for drinks receptions and grand wedding breakfasts surrounded by parkland.
Timeless Ceremony Spaces Steeped in History
All three of Marwell Hall’s historic rooms are licensed for civil ceremonies, each offering its own unique character.
- The Long Room, named after Sir William Long who completed Marwell Hall as we see it today, is light and airy, with tall mullioned windows, an impressive fireplace and decorative cornicing — perfect for a classic, elegant ceremony.
- Adjoining it is the Seymour Library, a beautifully detailed space lined with bookshelves and crowned by a richly decorated ceiling. Its ornate fireplace bears the coat of arms of the Seymour family, who owned the Hall from 1551 to 1638. The room’s two large windows and grand doorways create a warm yet stately atmosphere.
- The more intimate Woodlock Room, named after Walter Woodlock who built the original medieval hall in the 14th century, features deep mullioned windows and a charming fireplace.
Throughout the Hall, guests will notice signs of its Tudor and royal connections, including the coat of arms of King Edward VI, now set into a magnificent fireplace in the main Tudor Rose Hall entrance. Marwell Hall remains a remarkable and romantic setting for a wedding celebration.
A Unique Setting at the Heart of Marwell Zoo
Marwell Hall is located within the heart of Marwell Zoo. While weddings do not include exclusive use of the zoo itself, couples are able to enjoy wedding photography within the zoo, with the events team happy to suggest stunning locations that make the most of this unique backdrop.
Various add-ons are available within our wedding packages, including a walking zoo safari, virtual reality experiences, face painting and nature crafts, making Marwell Hall an especially wonderful choice for weddings with children.
With its rich history, exclusive-use spaces and one-of-a-kind setting, Marwell Hall offers a wedding experience that is elegant, characterful and completely unforgettable.
