Allan Bank was the perfect venue for our intimate DIY wedding. The house is beautiful and set in a wonderful location with stunning views, extensive grounds, and wildlife including red squirrels. We loved the cosy family atmosphere, as well as the venue’s versatility and charm, it has character! Annabel, Heather, Chris and the NT team were so friendly, helpful, and accommodating throughout the entire process, from our initial enquiry to the post wedding day tidy up. We couldn’t have done it without them and are so grateful for all their advice and support. We’re so happy that Allan Bank has become a special place for us and that we can continue to visit throughout our life. It was the perfect venue for our wedding and we would recommend it in an instant to anyone getting married.

We had the absolute joy of being the first couple to be married at Allan Bank, choosing the beautiful billiard room as the setting for our intimate October ceremony—and we couldn’t have dreamed of a more perfect venue.

It was Annabel who first recommended Allan Bank to us, and from the moment she mentioned it, I was sold. Planning a wedding 7 hours away from home could’ve been daunting, but with Annabel's help, it was a genuinely enjoyable experience. She’s incredibly experienced, full of brilliant suggestions, and helped bring all of our ideas to life—nothing ever felt like too much trouble. She was fantastic to communicate with and made everything feel effortless. This goes for the whole team at Allan Bank too, they really helped to make us feel special.

On the day itself, Annabel and the team struck the perfect balance—they was there when we needed them, quietly supportive, always on hand, but never intrusive. Her calm presence helped the day run seamlessly and allowed us to fully relax and soak it all in.

The setting is just stunning. All of our guests commented on the breathtaking views over Grasmere, the unique charm and history of the house (Wordsworth once lived there!), and the cosy atmosphere of the billiard room where we said our vows. Having the fire lit during our ceremony added such a warm, personal touch—it was so atmospheric and memorable.

One of our favourite moments was when my uncle turned to me and said, “It feels like we’re part of something, not just watching something.” That perfectly sums up what Allan Bank gave us: a wedding that felt shared, heartfelt, and truly personal.

We’d 100% recommend Allan Bank to anyone looking for something a little different—whether you're drawn to nature, literature, heritage, or just want a space that feels deeply intimate and welcoming. It’s a perfect spot for both small, meaningful ceremonies like ours, or something a little bigger, with the stunning gardens and rooms offering so much flexibility. Having our wedding at Allan Bank was the perfect intimate day for us. We hired the venue exclusively for a few hours and had our ceremony in the Billiards room and the drinks and canape reception in the house. Our guests all loved it, the photos are stunning and Annabel and the team at Allan Bank, could not have been more helpful. Be aware that there is very little parking so you will likely need a bus for your guests. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this venue for your day, whether you have it all day or just a few hours.

Everyone at Allan Bank and Annabel Candler (the wedding manager) could not have been more accommodating to our needs! We even had our bouquet and button holes made by the NT gardeners, from flowers grown onsite.
