Speech by Simon Kennedy

Speech Type: Groom
Speech Creator: Simon Kennedy
Speech Date: Jan2007
Someone once said that a good speech has both a good beginning and a good ending. A great speech however keeps both of these very close together…

One of the problems I've had is the middle bit!.… Too short and everyone gets very rare beef, too long and it's well done!

Bearing this in mind, I'm aiming for Medium rare!.… Let's see how we get on!

Ladies and Gentlemen, family and friends, on behalf of Monika and myself, welcome to you all.

As there are a number of toasts in my speech, I'd like to make sure that all of you have your glasses fully charged…

Whilst you are all doing this, I thought, I'd let you know how Monika &amp I first met…

.… Tiger Tiger.… Champagne.… Beautiful woman.… Welsh Man!

So onto the toasts &amp thank you's!

Toast absent friends &amp family.…

Unfortunately, it's not been possible to have everyone we love here with us today, but we know they're here with us in spirit &amp they're not only in our thoughts today, but more importantly they're with us in our hearts.
So, with them in mind, would you please all stand, raise your glasses, &amp join me in a toast to absent family &amp friends.

Ladies &amp Gentlemen, “Absent Family &amp Friends”

We would like to thank both sets of parents as we wouldn't be where we are today if it wasn't for them. We would like to thank them all for the love and support over the years.

To my Mum &amp Dad.…

For all the advice you have given me. For putting up with me and pointing me in the right direction, however

I do vividly remember when I for example, as a very young 4 or 5year old, I climbed into the Grandfather clock at home and managed to topple it over, with me still inside and another occasion when as an even younger lad, I decided I didn't like the colour of our next door neighbours car, so decided to hand paint it with a brush!

Taking all that into consideration, Mum, Dad I love you very much, hold your heads high you've done a cracking job!

As a token of our appreciation, please accept these flowers…

To Monika's parents

Thank you for all your love and support and for giving Monika a great start in life. I believe that I'm also meant to thank you for putting up with her in her childhood and teenage years, however when I asked her for some embarrassing snippets of information for this part of my speech, I got the reply: ‘I'm a convent girl, I didn't do anything wrong when I was a child’!!.… Something tells me, a little princess in the making!
Of course I haven't just gained a wife today, but also a family. Thank you to all of them for making me feel so welcome. Most of all, thank you for bringing Monika up to be the woman that I have married.
As a token of our appreciation, please accept these flowers.…

Master of Ceremonies

James, I've known James or Jimbo for about 10 years or so… and both Monika and I are very pleased to hear that James &amp Rohan have decided to get married, whilst only getting engaged in November last year, they are due to be married in March 2007!… I'm told that Rohan follows you, in having the similar organisational skills! –In that it only took 6 shopping hours to buy, Bride, Groom and bridesmaids outfits! – Wow!
Many thanks for all your support today…
As a token of our appreciation, please accept this..…

Bridesmaids

Nikki &amp Alex.…

Monika

I now come to the most important person in my life….…
To borrow a few words from a song, by Embrace.…
Honey, it's been a long time coming.… &amp I can't stop smiling and I can't stop now!.…
Simply put.… ‘You look absolutely stunning, you take my breath away!’ I'm just so proud to be your Husband… Thank You!
They say, ‘To be happy with a man, you must understand him a lot and love him a little. To be happy with a woman, you must love her a lot and not try to understand her at all.’
It works for me.
We have so many plans to make throughout our lives together but, whatever happens, I know that we will be together for ever and that is all that matters in this world
I'm going to finish with a little verse which I'd like to claim are my own words but they're not – however, they are ‘My thoughts exactly !

There are so many things I love about you
I love your childlike quality,
Your sense of wonder,
Your enthusiasm for life and love
I love the way you understand me
Better, than anyone I've ever known.
The way you're always thinking of things to make me happy
I love the fun we have together
The way you can always make me laugh
Just when I need it most
And I love the way I am when I'm with you
I see things more clearly
Through your eyes and your touch
Makes me feel everything more deeply
I love discovering the inner you
That other people never see
And the more I discover, the more I find to love
I love you simply because you are you
That's why I know for the rest of my life I will always be in love with only you

Best Man

So, that's enough from me, it now gives me very great pleasure to hand over to my best man –– he's a guy that I've known for quite a while, in fact since a little boating trip to Amsterdam in October 1988, further details can be had in the bar later and I can honestly say that his support and advice over the years has been truly invaluable

Many people don't know that John lives in a parallel universe which causes him to invent fanciful stories. He really does believe these stories to be true and I thank you for humouring him during his speech.

I'd like to ask him now to give him the best man's speech – and given this great build up, I appreciate it if he would take it easy on me.
