Speech by David Parker

To be honest I didn't know where to start so I thought I'd trawl through the internet looking for some inspiration and after a couple of hours I‘d found some really good stuff, it was then I remembered that I was supposed to be writing my speech.

Now as is custom, there will be a few toasts during this speech, so please make sure you don't neck the whole glass on the first toast….not mentioning any names…Emily!

Today you are all very lucky bearing witness to a very unique and special event in history, the very first and last time that Emily is going to let me speak on behalf of both of us, I know, I'm as gobsmacked as the rest of you….

It's lovely to see so many of our family and friends here today to join in and help us celebrate the happiest day of our lives.  I know some of you have travelled the length and breadth of the UK to be here today and that means so much to us.  So….I'd like to thank everyone for making our day extra special by being here. So please raise your glasses, to family and friends.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to have everyone we love here with us today, but we know they're here with us in spirit and not only in our thoughts, but more importantly in our hearts. So, with them in mind, would you all please stand, raise your glasses, and join me in a toast to my mum and dad, Gordon and Marlene, Emily's dad Arthur and Brother Philip and not forgetting absent friends and family…Cheers

Now, I would personally like to thank Madge… (known as Denise to the rest of you) for accepting me into her family and making me feel so welcome, also for putting up with us for the last 6 months so that we could save for the wedding and for putting up with Emily's nasty habits.  I would also like to thank her on how well she's dragged Emily up into the beautiful, loving, semi intelligent woman who I have had the greatest pleasure of marrying today. I genuinely couldn't have asked for a better mother in-law.  As a token of our appreciation please accept these flowers, and if we could all raise our glasses, cheers Madge.

This leads me onto my gorgeous new wife. I can't even begin to explain how absolutely beautiful your looking today. When I first saw you walking up the aisle I realised just how lucky you are, sorry…I am.  I looked at you and thought it's definitely you…again sorry… me getting the better deal.  Emily I love you in so many ways and for so many reasons. You understand me like no one else could, you always make me laugh and smile, you always bring the best out in me; you're my best friend, soul mate, and to top that off…not only are you the mother of our gorgeous son Finlay but you are now my beautiful wife.  You've made me the happiest man alive for the second time in my life; I love you with all of my heart and more. So please everyone raise your glasses, Finlay's mum and my gorgeous wife, Emily Parker.

Now I'd like to thank our bridesmaids Verity, Lucy and Faye.  I'm sure everyone will agree with me that you all look lovely today.  I'd like to thank you all for the help and support you have given up to and including today.  We couldn't have asked for a better day. As a token of our appreciation here is a little something for you all. If you could all raise your glasses to Verity, Lucy and Faye, cheers!

I'd also like to also thank Helen for the fantastic cupcake wedding cake that she has made us, after taste testing a lot of them I can honestly say they taste great and I hope everyone enjoys them later, heres a little something, thank you Helen!!

Now….there is an unwritten rule at weddings that no one should look more handsome than the groom and I am pleased to say that both ushers, Steve and Tye, have stuck to that rule. You were a great help in planning the finer details of today, and you've both done a superb job. So here's a token to show our appreciation, raise your glasses to our ushers Steve and Tye. Cheers guys

And now finally….my two best men Phil and Jodi…You both want to give a wee wave? I'd like to thank you both for agreeing to be my best men. I've known you both for a good number of years now and I'd like to point out to everybody that they both suffer from a rare medical condition which makes them prone to dipping in and out of reality when it comes to telling stories about me that they believe are true…So if you could all bear that in mind whilst they make their speeches I'd be grateful.  Last week they both told me they were even more nervous than me about making a speech, so everyone, please feel free to heckle them as much as you like.

We have of course also got you guys a gift to say thank you but we'll be keeping hold of them until we've heard your speech. Please everyone, one last time raise your glasses to my two best men Phil & Jodi!

That's it from me, so I would like to thank you all again and hope you enjoy the rest of your day. It's now my pleasure to hand you over to my two best men….Guys, the floor is all yours!!
