Wedding Entrance Songs FAQ

What are the best wedding entrance songs?

If you’re wondering how to pick the best song for your wedding entrance, DJ and MC Tony Winyard recommends picking a tune that pays homage to your love story.

“I always encourage couples to choose songs that have special meaning to them, whether it’s from a film they both love, from a holiday or their time together at university,” he says. “A touch of sentimentality is great, while crowd-pleasers – think Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars and Happy by Pharrell Williams – will heighten the feel-good mood.”

“Pick something that feels like you as a couple, whether that’s funky, feel-good, a bit cheeky or totally epic,” adds Tim. “Bonus points if your guests recognise it straight away and can sing along!

“I think my top pick is Love on Top by Beyoncé – it’s got the perfect balance of feel-good energy and romantic lyrics. It just fits the moment so well.

“I also love a bold, unexpected choice that makes the entrance feel totally unique to the couple. Let’s Get Married by Jagged Edge is a cheeky one, but it works brilliantly. And Bring It All Back by S Club 7 – pure 00s cheese but loads of fun,” he adds.

“Then there are the entrances with serious swagger. I’ve seen couples absolutely own it walking in to About Damn Time by Lizzo or Crazy in Love by Beyoncé ft. Jay-Z. You’ve got to bring the confidence and energy, but if you do, it’s unforgettable.”

How long should a wedding entrance song be?

This all depends on how many people will be entering and the order in which they do so. Some couples choose to have their wedding party members go in first, leading up to the newlyweds’ arrival. Alternatively, the moment can be savoured for just the two of you.

If it’s a group, your choice of wedding party entrance songs should be around the three-minute mark to allow enough time for everyone to make their arrival smoothly.

And if it’s just the two of you? “You really only need around 30-60 seconds – just long enough to walk in, soak up the cheers and maybe have a little dance if that’s your style,” says Tim. “Think about whether you’re better off starting the song from the beginning or just before the most recognisable part of the song, so it hits the chorus or big moment as you enter.

“This is where having live musicians really comes into its own,” he adds. “They can shape the song perfectly, holding the build-up until the doors open, looping the chorus or extending the vibe until you’re seated.

“On the other hand, if you’re having a recorded track, make sure someone is ready to fade it out gently once you’re in and sat down – not an abrupt stop!”

Can you have more than one entrance song?

It’s definitely possible to have more than one song for your reception entrance, particularly if your whole wedding party will be part of the process.

You might choose to have a different wedding entrance song for the bridesmaids and groomsmen, for example, followed by another tune for your parents’ entrance, and then something completely different for your bride and groom walk in song.

Should the bridal party have a different entrance song?

There’s no rule that says the bridal party has to have a different entrance song, but it’s your wedding, so do it your way. If you want to reserve a special song especially for your entrance as newlyweds, then do so!

How to plan a good wedding entrance

To ensure everything goes smoothly for your couple wedding entrance song, have your venue coordinator or master of ceremonies gather all your guests by the entrance to create a welcoming line for you to walk through. Then it’s time to play your entrance song.

Ensure they know how you want to be introduced, too – are you taking each other’s names, or would you rather be referred to as ‘the happy couple’ for example?

“I recommend picking a song with a good beat to allow guests to clap along as you enter the room,” adds Tony.

You’ll also need to be thinking about what your guests will be doing as you enter. This is a fantastic moment for your wedding photographer to capture, so maybe have the perfect snap prepped with party poppers or streamers. Then all you have to do is walk in, hand in hand, to one of your favourite songs and raise your hands as the crowd goes wild!
