Where is Warwick Castle?

Warwick Castle is nestled on the banks of the River Avon in the heart of idyllic Warwickshire, England. Known for this iconic fortress and being William Shakespeare's birthplace, this region is a picturesque backdrop for your milestone event.

Situated in the West Midlands, Warwick is a delightful market town with lots for guests to see and do. Visit The Market Hall, browse the antique shops, and stroll around town, taking in all that this tourist attraction has to offer.

Of course, even if you don't leave the castle grounds, there are still plenty of activities available at the venue, including live-action performances, birds of prey shows, exploring the castle dungeon, and much more. For those visiting or staying over, Warwick Castle's parking is situated on an incline to the main entrance, but there is a drop-off area available for guests with specific needs.

There is no parking on the castle grounds as it's important for the owners to maintain the property as it was originally designed and protect it as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. On a similar note, dogs and other pets, aside from assistance dogs, are not allowed on-site at the castle or gardens.

When Was Warwick Castle Built & Who Owns It?

Originally built in 1068 by William the Conqueror, Warwick Castle was initially a wooden fort used as a stronghold until the early 17th century. The original Mound still stands today, where William strategically placed it to aid him in solidifying control over England. The Mound is now a viewpoint for guests to enjoy panoramic views of the stunning grounds and picturesque surroundings.

The castle was rebuilt in stone during the 12th century and, according to Visit Warwick, has been inhabited continuously since the Middle Ages, having been home to the Earls of Warwick until recently. Warwick Castle has also been the site of countless exclusive Victorian social events. This impressive medieval fortress has a rich history attached and has become a popular tourist attraction.

So, who owns Warwick Castle now? After many generations of the Earls inhabiting the castle, it was purchased by The Tussauds Group in 1978. It was then sold to property investor Nick Leslau under a sale and leaseback agreement.
