Bezel-Set Engagement Rings: Modern, Secure and Celebrity-Inspired
Bezel-set engagement rings offer a sleek, secure, and contemporary choice, inspired by celebrities and perfect for modern couples
Engagement ring trends come and go, but some styles endure, gaining timeless appeal. One such design making a significant comeback is the bezel-set engagement ring.
This setting, which encircles the gemstone entirely with metal, offers a sleek, modern look while providing durability and security. Recently, this style has been gaining traction, thanks in part to high-profile endorsements and its suitability for contemporary lifestyles.
Taylor Swift’s Engagement Ring: A Bezel Beauty
Pop icon Taylor Swift’s engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce has brought the bezel-set ring back into the spotlight. Swift’s custom-designed ring features a round brilliant-cut old mine diamond, estimated between 7 to 9 carats, set in what we believe to be 18k yellow gold.
Designed by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry, the ring also includes half-moon and small round side stones, showcasing a vintage-inspired yet contemporary aesthetic.
This high-profile endorsement has sparked renewed interest in bezel-set rings, with many couples seeking a blend of elegance, security, and modernity in their engagement jewellery.
Regional Sales Manager at Austen Blake, James Harris, explains: “The first glimpse of Taylor’s elegant ring reveals just how captivating it is. Although it’s speculated that the diamond is oval in shape, it looks to resemble a more elongated cushion cut diamond, which is a popular trend and looks stunning against the enchanting floral backdrop.
“This ring is certainly not off the shelf. It’s unique, with an antique feel and has been chosen for its meaning. The diamond looks to be rare white in its colour and eye clean in its clarity. A stone of this magnitude could well go into the millions in terms of cost. We estimate the piece to be worth upwards of £750,000-£1.5 million, although it could, of course, be less if the couple opted for a more minimal carat.
“Set with a yellow gold band of at least 9 carat, it’s the ring’s vintage charm and classic design that makes it hopelessly romantic - it’s a love story for sure!”
Why Bezel-Set Rings Are Gaining Popularity
Want to know more about why bezel-set engagement rings are growing in popularity?
1. Security and Durability
The bezel setting offers superior protection for the centre stone. Encasing the diamond or gemstone in metal minimises the risk of chipping or damage, making it an excellent choice for those with active lifestyles or hands-on professions.
2. Modern Aesthetic
Bezel-set rings present a clean, contemporary look that appeals to modern couples. Their minimalist design complements various styles, from vintage to avant-garde, allowing for personalisation and uniqueness.
3. Versatility in Design
This setting works well with a variety of diamond shapes, including round, oval, and cushion cuts. Additionally, bezel settings can be crafted in different metals such as yellow gold, white gold, platinum, and rose gold, offering versatility to match personal preferences.
4. Inclusive Appeal
Bezel settings are increasingly popular among diverse demographics, including gender-neutral couples and those seeking non-traditional designs. Their adaptability and timeless appeal make them a favoured choice across various groups.
Choosing the Right Bezel-Set Ring
When selecting a bezel-set engagement ring, consider the following:
- Metal Choice: Select a metal that complements your skin tone and lifestyle. Yellow gold offers a classic look, while platinum provides extra durability.
- Stone Shape and Size: Choose a diamond or gemstone shape that resonates with your personal style. Bezel settings can enhance the appearance of the stone, making it appear larger or more prominent.
- Design Details: Incorporate additional elements like side stones, filigree, or engraving to personalise the ring further.
Bezel-set engagement rings combine elegance, security, and modern appeal, making them a top choice for contemporary couples. With endorsements from celebrities like Taylor Swift and growing popularity among diverse demographics, this style is set to remain a staple in the world of engagement jewellery.
