Wivenhoe House is an 18th-Century wedding venue nestled in the beautiful countryside in Colchester, Essex. The country house hotel creates the perfect backdrop for your wedding and is set in the most idyllic locations. Facilities and Capacity
Wivenhoe House is licensed for civil ceremonies and has an outdoor Gazebo overlooking the breathtaking grounds, surrounded by nature and tranquillity should you want an outdoor ceremony.
The traditional Drawing room accommodates up to 100 guests for your ceremony, with the beautiful Signatures lounge or Sunken Lawn available for the reception drinks after your ceremony.
The Garden Suite can accommodate up to 120 guests for a sit-down wedding breakfast and then up to 200 for your evening reception.
Services Offered
The team at Wivenhoe House goes above and beyond to produce the event of your dreams. The group believes that your day should not be shared, so operate a one wedding per day policy so that you receive the undivided attention of the professionals. The venue offers all-inclusive packages featuring three-course wedding breakfasts, a choice of items for the evening finger buffet, and Bucks Fizz or Pimms for the drinks reception. The venue's in-house chef creates delicious menus, and prosecco is provided for the toast. You have access to the venue for pre and post-wedding photos, ensuring you get the perfect shot before going home. The venue also offers event rentals, including white linens, cutlery, crockery, glassware, and a cake knife, giving you one less thing to worry about.

We have 40 bedrooms; 16 elegant and spacious rooms and suites in the meticulously restored historic house, and 24 rooms and suites with delightful views over the gardens and parkland in the contemporary garden wing. We can offer special rates.

A dream wedding brought to life
One of the most memorable gestures was how she looked after our dog during the ceremony, making sure he was calm, comfortable, and part of the day. She even brought treats for all six dogs that attended the wedding, which was such a thoughtful touch and meant the world to us and our guests.
The entire team worked seamlessly behind the scenes to make everything run smoothly, allowing us to relax and enjoy every moment. Their professionalism, kindness, and genuine care shone through from start to finish.
If you’re looking for someone who will treat your wedding as if it were their own, look no further. We cannot recommend Pheobe and her team highly enough! They helped make our day truly perfect.
Our dream day Wivenhoe made a reality
The venue itself is perfect for couples looking to have everything in one place. We enjoyed a beautiful meal with our closest family and friends the evening before, stayed overnight at the hotel, had a lovely breakfast the next morning, and were able to get ready together in the rooms before the ceremony. The layout and organisation could not have been better — everything flowed naturally and felt thoughtfully arranged.
We chose the Ultimate Package, and it exceeded every expectation. Absolutely everything we could have needed was included, which made the entire experience stress-free and genuinely enjoyable.
Wivenhoe House Hotel, and especially Phoebe, helped create a day we will cherish forever. Wholeheartedly recommended!

Nothing was too much trouble.
In the day of the wedding they dressed the venue to the highest standard and were so attentive, even helping my daughter when her speech became so emotional.

the best day of our lives
from the day of enquiry to the day of the wedding, the team were fantastic, nothing was a problem, they were so willing to arrange, or sort out everytging.
We originally booked during covid but dates were moved due to health reasons, the team were more than happy to assist
they are great for advice and guidance for recommendations of suppliers that are loyal to them and reasonably priced also.
they were especially kind to my father who is in a wheelchair paralysed, Lionel one of the management team made sure a member of staff was always on hand helping him, to make the day as stress free for both of my parents, from the day before when they arrived to the moment they left with their luggage.
Lionel also organised the party of 20+ guests (including children) staying the night before the wedding the marquee for us all to have our evening meal together next to the restaurant, which was so kind.
the groom and i got ready separately in different areas of the hotel. i had a bridal team of 10 as did he, the wivenhoe team, were there continuously helping assisting and asking if we needed anything,
i had a particular set up of my décor for my tables, sweet cart etc, and lisa the events manager knew exactly my style and had it done perfectly. she was there early before she was expected helping and organising going above and beyond what she was needed to do, to make our day perfect.
the food was amazing, we had cocktails, canapes, wedding breakfast and the evening buffet, everyone was impressed with the high standard of food and service. (especially the guests who had special dietary requirements, who were very well looked after and felt like VIP’s)
lisa was a rock to us she was always there wherever i needed her, and she made our day flawless and perfect!
the reception team, were a great help, we had 20 rooms booked in the end, and i was constantly emailing for adding more and having a spreadsheet of who has booked etc.
the management team and the staff are wonderful
if we could afford it we would do it all over again a heartbeat! Was the happiest day of our lives, never stopped smiling or laughing x

Wivenhoe house is truest beautiful and it I feel should be higher on people’s list for a wedding venue. The house is beautiful and I loved my wedding day. Katie was perfect as a planner and listened to us completely even my husbands idea of llamas!! Which we didn’t follow through with. The price was amazing for what we got included!!
The food was so great!! Especially the pudding and the evening buffet was the best I’d seen for the amount and selection. Would highly recommend the sliders. Overall I would give 10/10.
Excellent experience, on our wedding day ,although is covid wedding we love most of it .
