Mulberry House is a family-owned and operated wedding venue located in High Ongar, England. This Essex estate is nestled on 22 acres of rolling fields, wishing wells, and lakes that create a breathtaking backdrop. The historic house has been subtly converted into a boutique hotel while retaining its origional charm and details. Featuring stunning Georgian architecture mixed with 21st-century additions, this venue is a luxurious and unique setting to hold weddings all year through.
Facilities and Capacity
Mulberry House is licensed for civil ceremonies of up to 140 people. The venue has two beautiful wedding reception spaces, both of which come equipped with working bars and can seat between 50 and 140 guests. The Copper Room is furnished with exquisite chandeliers and exposed beams, while the Marquee is draped with white cloth and fairy lights. Before dining and dancing, drinks receptions can be held on the terrace overlooks the grounds and lake. After the festivities, you and your loved ones can retire to the hotel's 25 overnight accommodations. These comfortable and tastefully-designed en-suite bedrooms will allow you to relax and unwind after a fun-filled day with all your friends and family.
Services Offered
Mulberry House only hosts one wedding per day, meaning that no other couple is married here on the same day. For your big day, you will have a dedicated Wedding Co-Ordinator, Function Manager, and waiting staff at your disposal to ensure everything goes seamlessly.

Excellent venue for our family get together on 17/08/2025
Good day with sunshine for our function.
Welcome drinks and canapes were excellent.
Sitting arrangements in marquee was very good with flower arrangements, cake and projector as requested.
Food was serve as buffet, as Indian food it was good except naan.
Desserts were excellent.
We enjoyed our day and guests were very pleased with the service.

Family celebration
We had a lovely time hosting our family celebration here. The venue is stunning and allowed us to come for a food tasting and took on feedback for changes for the food. The team were very professional and friendly! Would recommend.

More than we could have ever dreamed of!
We was so lucky to have found this incredible venue! From our first time viewing we fell in love with every part of this venue. The rooms are beautiful, the food is delicious and the staff are amazing! They are so welcoming, friendly and always happy to help with anything. They made the whole process so easy and stress free! Couldn’t have wished for better people to have around us and we can’t thank them all enough for making our day so special! Our wedding was more than we could have ever dreamed of and we wish we could do it all over again! Love Mr & Mrs Abbott!

Absolutely fantastic Wedding Venue
We had our Wedding at Mulberry House near Ongar. Everything was brilliant from the first day of booking right through till the end. Communication by email and phone fantastic. Nothing was ever too much trouble any last minute changes we had were dealt with quickly. The whole wedding day was ran in a very professional manner. The feed back from our wedding guests have been fantastic. Some stating it was the best wedding they have ever been to and the venue is stunning with Fantastic grounds. To sum up it was a spectacular day no stress was run smoothly and professional. We would highly recommend this venue.

BEST wedding venue
If you are considering booking Mulberry house for your wedding then DO IT! We had the most incredible day and the staff are just amazing. From start to finish. Chloe and Nicola helped me with all the preparations to the big day and made sure everything was organized, Claire and Jo on the day just made everything run SO smoothly and put me at ease all day they are amazing. I need to give the most special mention to Faz I can’t put into words how wonderful he is and how he made the day so much better he was on hand to do anything for you , hyped us up, was so much fun and SO helpful. I’ve never been somewhere where the staff were this incredible. ALL of my wedding guests commented afterwards on how wonderful mulberry house and the staff were and they were blown away by how beautiful the grounds were. The rooms are gorgeous and the food is amazing!!! Thank you so much Mulberry house team for making this the best day ever.

April 2025 Wedding at Mulberry
We had our wedding last week and Mulberry House and it was absolutely amazing. From all the planning team to the event team on the day, they have been sensational. The team supported us through the whole process of planning and helped organised some surprises for the groom and guests. The food was incredible and nothing was too much trouble. Such a beautiful venue with caring, friendly and professional staff. Highly recommend for your wedding day.

Perfect wedding venue
We got married in her April 2025 and it honestly is the perfect venue. The staff honestly go over and above from the minute you first get shown around the minute you’re waking down the aisle. They honestly couldn’t do enough for us.
Everything on the day was just perfect and we owe it all day to Mulberry and all of their recommended suppliers. We got so many compliments about the venue because it truly is so stunning.

The Perfect Wedding Venue
The venue is superb, and most intimate which is what we wanted. We loved our wedding so much we would want to do it again, but of course we can never recreate that very memorable day. Mulberry House made our day so very special. Many of our guests stayed overnight and we all got together for breakfast. I would not hesitate in recommending Mulberry House as a 5 star specialised wedding venue.

Hitched without a hitch!
The weddings team at Mulberry House were superb from start to finish. They regularly checked in with us via the phone, email and in person meetings, when guests stipulated dietary requirements the week of the wedding, they did everything they could for us and never once made me feel as though I’d been a burden. While taking our portraits, two members of the team came to us with refreshing drinks and one of each of our canapés! It was such a thoughtful gesture, on top of everything all of our guests were so well looked after which was our priority. As a bride, I can’t recommend this venue enough. 10/10 food, 10/10 people and 10/10 atmosphere. Also, trust their recommendations! Their recommended DJ and photographer lists are a goldmine!

Highly Recommended
We held our wedding at the beautiful Mulberry House on 15 March 2025. We had looked at a number of venues but Mulberry House offered the exclusive use for the day of the stunning house and grounds, the beautiful ceremony and reception spaces (enhanced by the recent renovations) and a good number of high quality rooms for us and our guests to stay. We were supported by Chloe through every step of the planning process down to the smallest detail which ensured everything ran smoothly on the day. They make a real event of the menu tasting with couples brought together for the evening. We were looked after by Jo and Claire on the day who ensured we had everything we needed and were where we needed to be. Our meal on the day was beautifully presented and delicious, only positive comments from our guests on the quality of both food and service. The venue certainly created the right atmosphere we wanted for our day. You can only be impressed by everything it offers and the service provided by all the staff was so friendly and second to none. We had an amazing day and it was everything we hoped it would be. Thank you so much Mulberry House!

This place is a hidden gem!
We didn’t actually search around for a venue, it was more a happy accident.
We found Mulberry House when we booked it as a hotel stay the night before our friends wedding nearby. Whilst having breakfast in the garden room overlooking the stunning grounds, we got chatting to Sammy who invited us for a quick tour. We fell in love with it there and then and a week later we booked our wedding there!
The entire team are amazing, they were unbelievably accommodating to our requests (even with a guest swap the day before the wedding!) They really go the extra mile for anything you need. The kitchen team are amazing with dietary requirements, they catered for nut allergies, coeliac, lactose intolerance and vegetarians throughout our day. From canapés, to wedding breakfast, to evening buffet!
It didn’t matter what staff member we spoke to, whether is was the wedding team, the catering/bar team, the reception team, or even the night porter! Everyone one was so polite and would stop everything to help you with anything you needed.
The venue itself is so well looked after, impeccably clean and tidy, immaculate grounds and the new renovation works are absolutely stunning, yet the venue still has a rustic charm to it. Not to mention all of the rooms smell amazing!!
We had so many compliments from our guests on the beautiful venue, lovely staff, the amazing food and the luxurious accommodation. Our wedding was absolutely perfect, we couldn’t have had a better time, which would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the tireless efforts of the fantastic Mulberry House team.

Simply the Best
Our wedding at Mulberry House on Monday 17th February was simply epic.
Essex has an abundance of wedding venues, but, not many offer the service that Mulberry House do. We had a smaller wedding of just 40 day time guests and a lot of venues have much higher minimum numbers. Whilst this is what initially attracted us to Mulberry House; it wasn't as simple as that!
We also wanted very informal dining options. So many venues want to enforce a 3 course formal dinner or a buffet. Neither option appealed to us.
However at mulberry house, they offered a perfect solution. BBQ served on platters. No queuing for food, everything brought to the table.
They also have a food shack option which, we used for our evening food; opting for grilled ham and cheese toasties with loaded fries.
Basically, Mulberry House was the absolute perfect venue for us. Not only is it absolutely stunning and the food incredible; the team is just outstanding.
It is no wonder they have won Essex wedding venue of the year the last 3 years in a row.
It is such a rarity to find a company where every single staff member has the most perfect attitude. From cleaning staff and bar staff to the events team, wedding co-ordinators and reception staff - each and every one of them only wants you to have the best day of your lives. And we did
Nothing was too much trouble, last minute adjustments were taken care of without issue, things you wouldn't even think to mention were done (rearranging our aisle decor to reuse in the wedding breakfast room, moving our wedding cards and gifts and setting them out beautifully in our room. Bringing the evening food into our room as we didn't manage to get any (along with a plate of wedding cake!)
They are honestly amazing at mulberry house and cannot do enough for you. It was the most perfect day and a lot of that was to do with the wonderful staff.
