Beautiful wedding weekend!
The moment we visited Deer's Leap and met with Heather, we knew it had to be the place where we say I do! We love throwing a party, and this was our biggest party to date. Deer's Leap gives you the flexibility to have exactly the wedding that you want, not an off-the-shelf package wedding. This meant that we could utilise our creativity to really have the wedding that reflected us and our love for each other.
Heather and James really care that you have the best experience, they are not a conveyer belt of weddings. The couple gets to stay from the Thursday night, which really allowed us to relax and take everything in. On Friday we had a small army of friends and family arrive to decorate the barn. Saturday we had our wedding day, the bride and bridesmaids got ready in the bridal cottage. The groom and best man got ready in the main house and used the games room! On Sunday we had post wedding celebrations, and Monday was pack down and some very emotional goodbyes after the most amazing weekend.
The setting by the lake where we said I do, was just stunning! We had the stretch canopy up and it just looked so picturesque. I would say that the weather doesn't have to be amazing to have an outdoor ceremony here. We had our drinks reception on the patio, with games on the lawn, and wedding breakfast and reception in the barn. We hired in BBQ and pizza caterers for our food. You don't even need to decorate the venue, because it is stunning enough without it. Heather, James and all the staff (particularly superstar Ray) were on hand on the wedding day and the day before if needed, and gave us space to enjoy ourselves for the rest of the weekend. One of the great things about Deer's Leap is that your guests can stay together in the farmhouse, we enjoyed gathering in there and made use of the hot tubs. There are also 5 glamping tents (with proper beds!), with their own bathrooms and kitchenettes.
All of our guests commented on how lovely the venue was and how we were able to make our wedding our own! Thank you Heather and team :) Oh and you get to go back every year for the couples weekend!

Dream wedding venue
My husband and I got married at Deer's Leap in June 2024 and had the most amazing experience at Deer's Leap. Heather and her family and team couldn't have done a better job and everything was tailored to our needs and wishes. We arrived on site on Thursday and had all our family and close friends arriving on Friday and staying until Monday. Having a long weekend at Deer's Leap is just the perfect way to get married and it allowed for our families and friends to relax, have fun and just spend some quality time together.
Heather supported us throughout the wedding prep process, and we can't thank her enough for her support and sharing of experience - so many things we wouldn't have thought off without her.
It was the best weekend ever and we can't recommend Deer's Leap enough!

DIY Dream - just the best!
Where to start! From the moment we first looked around we felt so at ease here.. You have the freedom to create the wedding of your dreams and the support of the Heather, James and the team to help make it happen.
We had the most incredible long weekend here in June, with space for family and friends to stay. Our guests had so many compliments about how gorgeous the venue was, and how it felt relaxed and calm but still magical and wedding-y! There are so many beautiful spots - the lake, the barn, patio, but it all feels cohesive and your guests have places to explore whilst feeling at ease.
Honestly we couldn’t recommend Deer’s Leap enough!

A fantastic experience
Deers Leap is a lovely venue. It's nestled peacefully in the Devon countryside and is very tranquil. By booking with them, you have exclusive use of the venue and accomodation, which was perfect for us.
The cottage sleeps around 20 guests, so we were able to accommodate our close friends and family. There is also a separate bridal cottage for the couple, which was lovely. It was nice to be next door to our friends and family, but still have our own space when we wanted it. There are 2 hot tubs in the main cottage and one in the bridal cottage, which is a lovely way to spend an evening.
There is an option to either get married outside or inside. Even if the weather isn't great, everyone would be undercover outside thanks to the stretch canopy which covers the guest seating, so it's unlikely you will need to move inside unless you really want to. The barn building is also very nice with a rustic feel, and has absolutely everything you need for around 100 guests.
The biggest complement I can give about Deers Leap is the owner Heather and her family. She made us feel welcome from the very first time we visited the venue and she offers such a personal touch, something that you won't get at bigger, corporate venues. Nothing was too much trouble for her. She was very accommodating with any requests and dealt with changing of dates (due to covid) without any fuss or additional costs. She would offer help and assistance with all aspects of the planning, which was hugely valuable to us. She even invited us down prior to the wedding to stay for a couple of nights to do some planning, which was a lovely gesture.
Finally, it's a really nice touch that Heather and her family welcomes all couples married at the venue down each year for a 'Couple's weekend' where accomodation, food and drink is provided. Again, this is an incredible touch and something that you wouldn't get anywhere else. It shows just how much Heather and her family take care of everyone who chooses their venue.

A dream wedding!
We had our wedding here a month ago and couldn’t have been more pleased with how the whole weekend went. Deer’s Leap is a hidden gem - surrounded by beautiful countryside, with its own lake and charming accommodation. This truly is the perfect wedding venue. The fact that all of your family and friends can stay on site for the whole weekend, really makes it special for everyone. Heather, James and their team are amazing at helping you prepare for one of the biggest days of your lives, and will go above and beyond to make sure everything runs smoothly on the day. We couldn’t thank them enough.

Don't hesitate!
Absolutely incredible! Our wedding day was perfect! The rooms are so comfortable and clean, and the hot tubs a big bonus! Beautiful venue, amazingly well maintained and Heather was amazing from inquiry, to booking to the actual day. She kept things running and helped every step of the way so we didnt have to worry about anything. We had a perfect wedding day and I'd absolutely recommend this stunning venue to anyone!

We got married at Deer's Leap in May 2022 and the whole weekend couldn't have been more perfect! Heather, her family and team couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating! They ensured the day went seamlessly and we loved sharing our day with them all! The venue is stunning and the fact that we had the farmhouse and yurts as well meant that so many of our family and friends could enjoy the whole weekend with us! We 100% recommend Deer's Leap if you want a relaxed, beautiful and utterly amazing wedding day!

the most beautiful venue by day and when the sun goes down and the lights come on its like fairytale to make any bride feel like a true princess. Heather and her team and family go above and beyond to help in every way and are with you every step. To be able to have your close ones with you to celebrate for 3 days makes even more memories, and to be able to have everything just the way you dream of is the icing on the cake..

The best day of our lives!
What can we say, we couldn't have asked for more from Deer's Leap Retreat. It was just perfect. We wanted a relaxed, rustic wedding that allowed our friends and family to feel at home and really have a great time and this is what happened. Heather and James, and their team, worked tirelessly to help us create the best day. We were given guidance throughout the process meaning we never felt lost or overwhelmed. The long weekend, Friday-Monday for our onsite guests and Thursday-Monday for us, meant that we had a great bring-and-share gathering the night before our wedding and a relaxed BBQ with our nearest and dearest on the Sunday after, absolute bliss! So many of our guests told us that it was the best wedding they had ever been to, which was such a lovely thing to hear. Our wedding day was filled with love, joy and fun! Thank you so much, Heather and James, for what was truly the best day of our lives!

I'm Heather, I love Weddings... I know we all say that, I suppose we have to. But I actually do love weddings, at least, I love the Weddings we have here. I think we're lucky, Deer's Leap attracts the kind of people who are lovely and have lovely friends and family.
I'll never get over the priviledged feeling I get from being part of such a precious milestone in people's lives. Feeling connected with them and embraced by their freinds and family into such an intimate occasion.
Deer's Leap becomes part of their story, their family history and welcoming couples back year after year to our couples weekend, meeting their scrummy babies for the first time, seeing their toddlers tumble about, then running around - feeling at home in the place their parents got married, is something so special to me, I cannot describe how amazing it feels to be part of facilitating those family moments.
People often say that working in hospitality means you see the worst of people, but we get to see the best in people here. Sure, sometimes people are a bit off their game, but that's only because these sorts of family occasions often make people feel a bit socially anxious or emotional, whether they know it or not. All it takes to ease that, is supportive, friendly staff, who can show empathy and anticipate people's needs. Make sure everyone feels safe and welcome - it's not rocket science - it's liking people and loving your job.
