Facilities and Capacity
Situated in 50 acres of serene private lake, woodlands, streams and meadows, Clifford Barton is particularly well suited to couples who love nature and the great outdoors, and is exclusively yours for the entirety of your celebrations. Set in a medieval farmstead, the venue boasts a unique blend of ancient charm and modern luxury for you and your guests. Clifford Barton is not only one of the prettiest venues in Devon, but one of the most sustainable, with all accomodation heated from an on site wood chip boiler, using chip sourced from the adjacent Fingle Woods. There is an off-grid wood-fired hot tub with breathtaking views over the valley below, perfect for a pre-wedding bridal party relaxation. The venue is extremely flexible, offering a host of areas and facilities for different activities and games. Whilst highly professional, Clifford Barton is family-run and is ideal for couples seeking a non-corporate, relaxed wedding weekend. Licensed to host civil ceremonies, couples can make their lifelong commitments overlooking the aptly named Bridesmere Lake. With your guests looking on from under the beautiful chapel-esque timber bridge, there can't be many more romantic settings to start married life together. Then perhaps lead a romantic walk around the lake, enjoy lakeside drinks and nibbles, before returning to the magically light and airy stone-walled Rose Barn for your Reception. Included in the package is a wonderfully romantic off-grid love-nest cabin, with fantastic views up the Teign gorge, where having left the fesivities behind you can sit out under the stars in front of an open fire and reflect on the day and your future life together.
Services Offered
We understand that you'll want the freedom to design the wedding of your dreams. At Clifford Barton, whilst we can recommend caterers who we've worked with in the past, you are free to book the caterers and other suppliers of your choice. The Clifford Barton team offers you as much support and advice as you want to plan your weekend, and are present throughout the weekend to provide hands-on support, coordination and anything else you need to realise your dream wedding. You and your guests can enjoy a luxurious stay from Friday through to Monday in the three on-site cottages, sleeping up to 22 guests, with a further 10 guests able to stay on site in our bell tents. There is also an adjacent campsite as well as a range of local accomdoation for guests to stay in.

Wedding May 2025
We got married at Clifford Barton in May 2025 and it was absolutely the most magical weekend ever. Vicki and Gavin were the perfect hosts and absolutely amazing throughout the whole process. They were always quick to reply to our queries and requests, recommended brilliant suppliers and on the weekend itself, it felt as if they were part of the wedding family. They couldn't do enough for us! The venue is absolutely stunning and has so many beautiful touches, from the lakeside ceremony to the canoe bar, to the fun lawn games enjoyed by all our guests! Swallow barn is a stunning location for the wedding meal and then was utterly transformed through their lights and smoke machines for a night of non-stop dancing. Having the venue for the whole weekend made it feel really relaxed and allowed us to extend the celebrations for the whole weekend as almost all of our guests were able to stay either onsite or on the campsite next door. Thank you Vicki, Gavin and the whole team at Clifford Barton. We wish we could do it all again!

September wedding
From our first viewing (and booking) to leaving for our honeymoon on the Monday, Vicki and Gavin did an incredible job.
The venue is wonderful, and it was great that so many of our friends and family were able to stay for the whole weekend. This made setting up for the wedding and making the most of our time together much more special. Across the whole weekend, Vicki and Gavin were on hand to help with any queries and helped to make sure things ran smoothly on the day itself. Any worries or stresses were sorted by them immediately, meaning we could focus on celebrating.
Even with some stresses surrounding the rain, which didn't really come to fruition, they were on hand with alternative plans and plenty of umbrellas!
Responses to emails were always quick and detailed, they were always on the end of the phone, and they allowed us to visit the venue multiple times before the big day. We couldn't recommend Clifford Barton enough, be that for a wedding or a holiday getaway.

September Wedding 25
Clifford Barton was the perfect venue for our wedding. It was so great to be able to stay from Friday-Monday and it really helped make the wedding go to plan and allow us to spend more time with close friends and family.
Vicki and Gavin were amazing from start to finish, we were able to visit a couple of times before the wedding and pick up emails and calls with them to sort the finer details. Over the weekend they could not have been more accommodating, the perfect mix of chilled and attentive, always there to help out or answer any questions and always with a smile! We had a pretty rainy day but this didn't stop us getting married at the lake and it still all went perfectly, with the venue being very flexible to changes. They provided everyone with Clifford Barton umbrellas which meant photos looked smart and they were far studier than ones people brought.
All the accommodation is really nicely done and the extra option of bell tents is great for people staying for the weekend. Everything in the planning is laid out clearly and we felt it was good value, with absolutely no hidden costs or extra charges for corkage or cutting the cake etc.
We highly recommend booking Clifford Barton, we had an amazing day!

What a wonderful venue! What wonderful people!
Where to start?! Vicki and Gavin where absolutly amazing!
From the first visit they made everything so easy. They got excited about all of our ideas and helped with their own ideas and experience. So much of what they offer is included (meaning there arnt 1000 decisions to be made about add ons), and email communications during planning were always promptly answered.
Arriving for the weekend, they were there ready for us, help moved thing around, took the things we brought to use for the day/things we needed for the ceramony, stored it and set it up, everything happened around us! The venue itself is so beautiful you barely need to decorate.
On the day they were attentive and around when we needed them but never intrusive. Of all the many little things they orcastrated to make sure our wedding went off without a hitch, the cherry on the top was Gavin squirreling away one of our left over pizzas from dinner becasue he "thought we might want the midnight snack" . Absolutley correct and incredibly thoughtful.
They went the extra mile and made us feel so at ease and were there as and when we needed them. Truely wonderful family. They helped make our day so very special, cant thank them enough!!

Words don't do it justice!
We are so glad that we found Clifford Barton and Gavin and Vicki! As soon as we arrived to look around the venue we knew it was such a special place.
Very secluded and private, completely surrounded by nature and so well-looked after by the owners. I have never seen another venue like it. We wanted to get married outside and Clifford Barton was even better than we could have imagined. Walking up from the cottages to the lake through ancient woodland was absolutely magical and getting married at Bridesmere Bridge (overlooking the lake) was perfect.
From the very start Gavin and Vicki were so friendly, accommodating and helpful. They sent us a list of local suppliers etc to get started and were always happy to answer any questions we had. We were also able to come and visit to go through everything which was much appreciated. They have continued to learn from each wedding which is clear in the small details, which make such a difference!
They were so brilliant on the day - anticipating all of our needs and working with their wonderful family team to make sure everything went smoothly and that we were as relaxed as possible. For example, Gavin came and gave us sparkling elderflower when we were coming back from having pictures taken after the ceremony (pictured) - it was so warm and we hadn't had time to have any drinks but he thought to get us one which was so kind! It all felt very personal and it was lovely to have them be part of our day - they felt like part of the wedding family! Our friends and family also made many comments as to how wonderful they were. They were such a joy to work with!
It was brilliant to be able to have the venue for the whole weekend (which includes the cottages, cabin and wood-fired hot tub!), and we believe the value for money is amazing. The cottages are beautiful, comfortable and well equipped. We loved having our own separate space of the cabin to escape away to. The barn (for wedding breakfast and music) is beautiful and needs little decoration. On the Sunday, Gavin and Vicki recommended we walk through the forest to Fingle Bridge Inn with family and friends for lunch. The walk was so beautiful and the pub is stunning!
We can't recommend Clifford Barton enough - we wish we could do it all again! Words can't really express how special this place is. Thank you so much again Gavin and Vicki!

Beautiful wedding venue, we had a perfect day and weekend
We enjoyed being able to stay and have exclusive use of the whole weekend. Getting married outside by the lake was absolutely beautiful on a hot, sunny day, and we had lots of lawn games before eating in the barn. Vicki and Gavin couldn’t have done more for us over the weekend, we really loved our whole time, and the hot tub on our last weekend really rounded off the perfect wedding. Thank you so much, would highly recommend!

Perfect rural wedding venue
We are so glad that we chose Clifford Barton for our wedding venue. It was absolutely perfect, everything we wanted and more! We were wowed by the lake and the beautiful surroundings initially and the indoor spaces are also great. We loved that we had exclusive hire for the whole weekend and we could have people to stay on site too. The barn was perfect for our reception and it worked well for all guests. The owners Vicki and Gavin were lovely to deal with they helped us with planning and they made sure the day went really smoothly. The day flowed without us having to think which was perfect. Everything is thought of with this venue from lawn games being provided to a fun buggy ride to the lakeside ceremony if needed, they even helped us find the best photo spots. This year they installed a catering tent which our caterers said was great and saved us having to hire one. As the sun went down we could see so many stars and it was magical to have the fire pit going and the fairy lights on around the courtyard. It was a perfect wedding venue loved by all our guests we have definitely fallen in love with Clifford Barton.

Stunning and unique venue in the Dartmoor countryside with incredible hosts
We had our wedding at Clifford Barton September 2024 and the venue itself is truly spectacular with its location in Dartmoor. We fell in love with the venue because of its uniqueness and how flexible Vicki and Gavin were, which meant we could personalise every aspect of our day. Vicki and Gavin were great hosts, very easily contactable, super helpful in the run up but not overbearing which we valued and on the day we could not rate them enough, they were very relaxed and made sure the day ran smoothly, nothing was too much for them! We also loved their ethos of making sure the events impact on the surrounding environment was minimal, which was important to us. We would highly recommend Clifford Barton as a wedding venue.

Completely & Utterly LOVED
I truly have nothing bad to say about Clifford Barton - for us it was the perfect venue with the perfect hosts.
We feel really lucky to have found it and grabbed one of their limited hot spots. When you first come into Clifford Barton, you want to take a photo - the surroundings are so beautiful, giving a real feeling of seclusion and tranquility.
The thing that made it for us was the friendliness and willingness from Vicki and Gavin. They are just so lovely and great and wonderful and made our day feel exactly how we imagined it to. We didn't want a typical wedding venue but also knew we wanted guidance and help and Clifford Barton is where we found our happy medium.
Vicki and Gavin really ran with the creative ideas that we presented to them, even on the day when it was a little on the rainy side, they totally rolled with it and allowed for flexibility.
There are multiple places to hold your ceremony at the venue; The lake, the woods, the corn barn - each of them are gorgeous. The barn is already decorated beautifully with lighting and you can add whatever you like to make it unique and special to you.
Our guests loved that there were multiple areas for them to go to and being able to stay on site in the cottages was a real bonus. We were able to have most of our guests stay really close to the venue, whether it be in the cottages or bell tents on site, camping in the campsite next door or the various rental cottages 5 mins away. This was lush to have everyone take a holiday down in Devon and make a weekend of it.
Honestly, super super chuffed and grateful to have found Clifford Barton.

The perfect venue with the most supportive and hardworking owners
We are so happy that we chose Clifford Barton for our wedding which took place early this July. The venue itself is in an outstandingly beautiful area which is secluded and feels truly special. Having the venue from Friday afternoon until Monday meant we could relax with our guests before, during and after the big day, this was very important to us.
The entire process with owners Vicki and Gavin was seamless from our first viewing through to our wedding weekend. Communication with them was very easy and they gave us many helpful tips that made a huge difference on making the whole weekend run smoothly. They both went above and beyond to make sure that everything was as we had hoped, even down to having a well supplied fire pit, BBQ equipment and getting the wood fired hot tub ready for us on the Sunday afternoon (the view from the hot tub was breathtaking and what a joy not having the usual chlorine smell from a conventional hot tub!). The canoe bar down by the lake after our ceremony was a huge hit and a memorable talking point from the wedding.
The cottages we stayed in over the weekend were charming and very comfortable with beautiful gardens and space to relax outside as well as plenty of room inside for getting ready.
Overall we can't recommend Clifford Barton enough if you want a relaxed, personal feeling wedding in the most beautiful location with the most attentive and thoughtful hosts. Thank you so much Vicki & Gavin!

The most incredible day
We had our wedding at Clifford Barton in June 2024 - from the moment we arrived we were both in awe. Vicki and Gavin have continued to develop and learn from each wedding, assuring in incredible small details along the way.
The setting is rustic, untarnished and pure beauty. There’s a great degree of flexibility for location of your ceremony and many opportunities to personalise along the way.
They were both so friendly and approachable as well, and offered guidance and wisdom when we asked.
It’s so lovely having everyone one one site but spread out enough that you don’t feel cooped up. There’s a range of accommodation portions both onsite and loads in the local area as well; alongside a honeymoon cabana which was 1) incredibly comfy 2) bloody beautiful to wake up to the next morning and we definitely plan to head back to celebrate need our anniversary.
We couldn’t have asked for a better day, which was made even better with it being held at Clifford Barton and supported by Gavin and Vicki. Thank you both so much!
