We got married at Clifford Barton in May 2025 and it was absolutely the most magical weekend ever. Vicki and Gavin were the perfect hosts and absolutely amazing throughout the whole process. They were always quick to reply to our queries and requests, recommended brilliant suppliers and on the weekend itself, it felt as if they were part of the wedding family. They couldn't do enough for us! The venue is absolutely stunning and has so many beautiful touches, from the lakeside ceremony to the canoe bar, to the fun lawn games enjoyed by all our guests! Swallow barn is a stunning location for the wedding meal and then was utterly transformed through their lights and smoke machines for a night of non-stop dancing. Having the venue for the whole weekend made it feel really relaxed and allowed us to extend the celebrations for the whole weekend as almost all of our guests were able to stay either onsite or on the campsite next door. What a wonderful way to kick off our 2026 season! It was such a pleasure to host your special weekend, we loved how your family were so involved in the weekend’s activities, in particular on musical accompaniment - from Dave’s serene string quartet accompanying Sian’s arrival to your lakeside ceremony, to Tom’s epic band, unforgettably joined by Matt on fiddle for a couple of high octane numbers. We don’t think we’ve ever seen so many wedding guests remain on the dance floor throughout the entire evening!

From our first viewing (and booking) to leaving for our honeymoon on the Monday, Vicki and Gavin did an incredible job.
The venue is wonderful, and it was great that so many of our friends and family were able to stay for the whole weekend. This made setting up for the wedding and making the most of our time together much more special. Across the whole weekend, Vicki and Gavin were on hand to help with any queries and helped to make sure things ran smoothly on the day itself. Any worries or stresses were sorted by them immediately, meaning we could focus on celebrating.
Even with some stresses surrounding the rain, which didn't really come to fruition, they were on hand with alternative plans and plenty of umbrellas!
Responses to emails were always quick and detailed, they were always on the end of the phone, and they allowed us to visit the venue multiple times before the big day. We couldn't recommend Clifford Barton enough, be that for a wedding or a holiday getaway.

Clifford Barton was the perfect venue for our wedding. It was so great to be able to stay from Friday-Monday and it really helped make the wedding go to plan and allow us to spend more time with close friends and family.
Vicki and Gavin were amazing from start to finish, we were able to visit a couple of times before the wedding and pick up emails and calls with them to sort the finer details. Over the weekend they could not have been more accommodating, the perfect mix of chilled and attentive, always there to help out or answer any questions and always with a smile! We had a pretty rainy day but this didn't stop us getting married at the lake and it still all went perfectly, with the venue being very flexible to changes. They provided everyone with Clifford Barton umbrellas which meant photos looked smart and they were far studier than ones people brought.
All the accommodation is really nicely done and the extra option of bell tents is great for people staying for the weekend. Everything in the planning is laid out clearly and we felt it was good value, with absolutely no hidden costs or extra charges for corkage or cutting the cake etc.
We highly recommend booking Clifford Barton, we had an amazing day! -

Where to start?! Vicki and Gavin where absolutly amazing!
From the first visit they made everything so easy. They got excited about all of our ideas and helped with their own ideas and experience. So much of what they offer is included (meaning there arnt 1000 decisions to be made about add ons), and email communications during planning were always promptly answered.
Arriving for the weekend, they were there ready for us, help moved thing around, took the things we brought to use for the day/things we needed for the ceramony, stored it and set it up, everything happened around us! The venue itself is so beautiful you barely need to decorate.
On the day they were attentive and around when we needed them but never intrusive. Of all the many little things they orcastrated to make sure our wedding went off without a hitch, the cherry on the top was Gavin squirreling away one of our left over pizzas from dinner becasue he "thought we might want the midnight snack" . Absolutley correct and incredibly thoughtful.
They went the extra mile and made us feel so at ease and were there as and when we needed them. Truely wonderful family. They helped make our day so very special, cant thank them enough!!

We are so glad that we found Clifford Barton and Gavin and Vicki! As soon as we arrived to look around the venue we knew it was such a special place.
Very secluded and private, completely surrounded by nature and so well-looked after by the owners. I have never seen another venue like it. We wanted to get married outside and Clifford Barton was even better than we could have imagined. Walking up from the cottages to the lake through ancient woodland was absolutely magical and getting married at Bridesmere Bridge (overlooking the lake) was perfect.
From the very start Gavin and Vicki were so friendly, accommodating and helpful. They sent us a list of local suppliers etc to get started and were always happy to answer any questions we had. We were also able to come and visit to go through everything which was much appreciated. They have continued to learn from each wedding which is clear in the small details, which make such a difference!
They were so brilliant on the day - anticipating all of our needs and working with their wonderful family team to make sure everything went smoothly and that we were as relaxed as possible. For example, Gavin came and gave us sparkling elderflower when we were coming back from having pictures taken after the ceremony (pictured) - it was so warm and we hadn't had time to have any drinks but he thought to get us one which was so kind! It all felt very personal and it was lovely to have them be part of our day - they felt like part of the wedding family! Our friends and family also made many comments as to how wonderful they were. They were such a joy to work with!
It was brilliant to be able to have the venue for the whole weekend (which includes the cottages, cabin and wood-fired hot tub!), and we believe the value for money is amazing. The cottages are beautiful, comfortable and well equipped. We loved having our own separate space of the cabin to escape away to. The barn (for wedding breakfast and music) is beautiful and needs little decoration. On the Sunday, Gavin and Vicki recommended we walk through the forest to Fingle Bridge Inn with family and friends for lunch. The walk was so beautiful and the pub is stunning!
We can't recommend Clifford Barton enough - we wish we could do it all again! Words can't really express how special this place is. Thank you so much again Gavin and Vicki!

We enjoyed being able to stay and have exclusive use of the whole weekend. Getting married outside by the lake was absolutely beautiful on a hot, sunny day, and we had lots of lawn games before eating in the barn. Vicki and Gavin couldn’t have done more for us over the weekend, we really loved our whole time, and the hot tub on our last weekend really rounded off the perfect wedding. Thank you so much, would highly recommend! -

Perfect rural wedding venue
We are so glad that we chose Clifford Barton for our wedding venue. It was absolutely perfect, everything we wanted and more! We were wowed by the lake and the beautiful surroundings initially and the indoor spaces are also great. We loved that we had exclusive hire for the whole weekend and we could have people to stay on site too. The barn was perfect for our reception and it worked well for all guests. The owners Vicki and Gavin were lovely to deal with they helped us with planning and they made sure the day went really smoothly. The day flowed without us having to think which was perfect. Everything is thought of with this venue from lawn games being provided to a fun buggy ride to the lakeside ceremony if needed, they even helped us find the best photo spots. This year they installed a catering tent which our caterers said was great and saved us having to hire one. As the sun went down we could see so many stars and it was magical to have the fire pit going and the fairy lights on around the courtyard. It was a perfect wedding venue loved by all our guests we have definitely fallen in love with Clifford Barton. -

Michelle Sent on 03/10/2024Stunning and unique venue in the Dartmoor countryside with incredible hosts
We had our wedding at Clifford Barton September 2024 and the venue itself is truly spectacular with its location in Dartmoor. We fell in love with the venue because of its uniqueness and how flexible Vicki and Gavin were, which meant we could personalise every aspect of our day. Vicki and Gavin were great hosts, very easily contactable, super helpful in the run up but not overbearing which we valued and on the day we could not rate them enough, they were very relaxed and made sure the day ran smoothly, nothing was too much for them! We also loved their ethos of making sure the events impact on the surrounding environment was minimal, which was important to us. We would highly recommend Clifford Barton as a wedding venue. -
