Your ancient Barns and Woodland Wedding Venue close to Sudbury, Suffolk (on the Suffolk / Essex border). Alpheton Hall Barns forms part of the ancient settlement of Alpheton Hall at the end of a mile long no through road. Surrounded by rolling countryside, meadows and woodland the Barns are adjacent to Alpheton Church as well as offering Barn and woodland ceremony spaces.
Facilities and Capacity
Comprised of two interconnected timber frame barns Alpheton Hall Barns offer plenty of space for your civil ceremony and wedding reception. Restored rather than converted the Barns still feature their original big Barns doors which can be open in good weather allowing the outside in. The ancient honey coloured oak beams and lime plaster interiors together with the black feather-boarded exteriors work with any colour scheme.
The Barns are furnished with tables and chairs and essentially everything you need for your ceremony and wedding reception. The South 'Reception' Barn is strung with a myriad of twinkly fairy lights and has lots of rustic detailing such as our big iron hoop lights and vintage wooden ladders all with hanging Edison light bulbs, which look stunning on their own or dressed in foliage or flowers. And you are welcome to add your personal decorations to make it 'your' wedding venue.
Outside guests are invited to explore the heart-shaped wildflower confetti arboretum, the wedding garden with brick 'drinks' terrace and space for garden games and the Barns courtyard with woodfired pizza oven, ideal for evening food. Whilst the couple can wander into the gardens and meadows around the Barns for their couples photographs.
Services Offered
The Alpheton Hall Barns is an exclusive use 'blank canvas' venue. Prices are for Barn rental only but local trusted suppliers would be more than happy to put together a food and drinks package for your day or you can choose your own (subject to approval). Owners Nic and Carol have more than 14 years experience in helping couples host their weddings and love that each wedding is personal to the couple.

Everything we wanted and more
Alpheton Hall Barns will forever now have a special place in our hearts. We fell in love with the venue when we first visited, the outdoor ceremony area was everything we wanted (and luckily the weather held for us to get married outside) and the barns themselves are beautiful. Carol and Nic were so helpful whilst planning our wedding, always on hand to answer questions and allowing us to visit the venue multiple times to measure up and check things out. They helped us make our wedding truly individual to us, offering us advice and adding their special touches. One of those was having two glasses of prosecco waiting for us in one of the smaller rooms after the ceremony, it gave us time to ourselves to take in that we had just got married, before confetti and photos. We highly recommend choosing Alpheton Hall Barns as your venue, you won't be disappointed. Thank you, Carol and Nic for helping us create a magical day to remember forever.

An amazing wedding day in the beautiful barns
We had the most amazing wedding at the barns in July. It was great to work with Carol and Nic who are so attentive, with great visions and meticulous attention to detail. The barn is beautiful and spacious. It’s the perfect venue for those who love the shabby chic vibe, but also love a party. Not to forget the amazing pizza oven in the courtyard! We had pizza for our evening food supplied by Alpheton Hall Barns and our guests haven’t stopped raving about in since! Thank you so much for hosting us!

Perfect in every way
When we arrived at AHB we just knew it was the perfect place! The grounds and venue are absolutely stunning but what makes it extra special is Nick and Carol. They truly go above and beyond to make your day the best - from helping with choosing suppliers (we picked everyone from their recommended list), all the extra touches such as taking photos throughout the day so we had sneak peaks before the professional ones came back to creating the best wedding breakfast entrance! They made us feel comfortable, nothing was too much and they helped create the best day! All the guests commented on how beautiful the venue was - we wouldn’t change a thing and we highly recommend AHB!!

Absolute Dream Venue
Alpheton Hall Barns was our venue of choice and I can't express how amazing our special day was in words! The woodland glade was absolutely stunning, the garden area was extremely well looked after and the Barn itself... Just wow! Carol and Nic are exceptional hosts and went above and beyond to make our dream day a reality, we couldn't recommend themselves and their venue enough!

Simply The Best
We got married at Alpheton Hall Barns and we don’t want to sound too gleeful, but we can safely say it was the best day of our lives. The venue is charming and whimsically beautiful, and we got lucky with the sunshine so were able to have our service in the woodland glade and make use of the lovely stackyard garden for our drinks reception. The reception barn was a perfect size to feel intimate with all our guests but have enough room to dance, chat and celebrate. While the barns don’t need any additional adornments, it was also lovely to be able to put our stamp on the space in the form of bunting, handmade signage, and lovely flowers from Wild & Mae.
If the barns are brilliant, they are only outstripped by the owners! Carol and Nic know every inch of their venue and how to maximise its potential to make the day extra special and have excellent knowledge and insights. They were happy for us to visit on multiple occasions and open days to get a feel for the space and discuss ideas with us and support us to have our day the way we wanted it. Special mention to the reception entrance lights routine designed by Nic that just took the whole experience to another level and whisking off a broken mirror for a fix after it was ‘damaged in transit’ (read: dropped by groom on its way into the building!)! Thank you to Carol too, for her endlessly calm and thoughtful approach - including shuttling all our things from the ceremony area to our reception space and arranging them perfectly. Throughout the process, Nic and Carol were supportive, insightful and their passion and care for each wedding at the barns is evident in all they do.
We have so much love and appreciation for the barns and everything they meant for our wedding day and celebrating with all our favourite people. We couldn’t have chosen a better place to get married and cannot recommend it enough.

The most amazing setting for the best day of our lives.
Like most who get married, this was the happiest day of our lives. But it would not have been anywhere near as amazing without Carol, Nick, and the beautiful setting that is Alpheton Hall Barns.
From the very first phone call we felt certain we were in good hands. They offered us sage advice when we needed it, and went above and beyond for us.
We looked at countless other venues, but when we found AHB knew we'd hit the jackpot. The venue is unbelievably beautiful; we were astounded that somewhere like this could even exist.
While looking at other venues there seemed to be a general one size fits all approach with the people we met. The complete opposite can be said of Carol and Nick, it was clear from the first call that they cared deeply about making our day special... and I must say they delivered.
The ceremony took place in the woodland area and it was perfect. We weren't worried about rain because the chapel was a gorgeous second choice in case of rain.
We had over 200 people attend the evening of our wedding, but AHB took that amount of people in it's stride. With gorgeous grounds, the magical barn, and court yard areas this place was the perfect backdrop for a truly spectacular day.
We can't put into words how grateful we are to both Carol and Nick for making our wedding exactly what we wanted. It was the best day our lives.

The most magical day!
We fell in love with the barns due to their rustic beauty and ability to put our own stamp on our wedding day. We had the absolute best, most beautiful day of our lives. If anything went wrong, we weren't aware of it and much of that is due to Carol being there in the background making sure all the suppliers were okay and on track and Nic out front with the guests making sure we were looked after and taking some beautiful photos and video clips, which he put up on the screen in the evening next to the dance floor, which was such a special touch. From the set up, to the camper van taking the bride to the ailse, to the confetti balloon in our first dance, to the clean up, Alpheton Hall Barns made our day perfect and we are so greatful!

Magical Harry Potter themed wedding!
This venue is simply amazing and our guests were amazed at the beautiful barn. We were able to have a woodland ceremony, welcome drinks in the gardens followed by a reception in the barn. The barn is stunning from the polished floors, unique barrels stands and open beams as well as the roof decorations. The venue provided an amazing list of vendors to work with who all work regularly at the barns. In the evening we had pizzas that were cooked on-site in outdoor pizza ovens, again which simply were outstanding. The venue has ample parking and great facilities. When we pitched our Harry Potter theme, Nic's creativity was outstanding. He was able to rig an indoor flying owl whcih delivered our speeches and flying broomstick which was so unique. He also is outstanding at audio and lighting. He provided such unique ideas and was passionate about ensuring we had the best possible day. They also offer so many different props and accessories to dress the venue with a great variety of things on offer at no extra charge. Nic and Carol went above and beyond in all areas. We were blown away by the personal touches they added. They are friendly, approachable and offer such individualised ideas. This venue is naturally beautiful and then has ample opportunity to add personal touches for your perfect wedding. The grounds and venue overall are stunning! AHB - The Stunning Location
I cannot recommend AHB enough for a wedding venue, Nic and Carol are so helpful and accommodating, nothing is to much trouble for them, they know and love the trade they work in, and it shows, the venue is stunning and so many of our guests commented on how perfect the venue was. They work brilliantly with suppliers and the day just ran smoothly! So many nice added touches to personalise your day as well.

The best venue in Suffolk
We had our wedding here in June, it’s fantastic value, the owners are kind and extremely helpful (also no corkage), the indoor and outdoor ceremony areas are beautiful, and the main hall is highly customisable to your specific style. There are a bunch of great smaller features like the confetti balloon for your first dance, a pizza oven, and some great private spots for photography. 10/10 can’t recommend enough.

THE most perfect venue and day!!
Everything was so perfect it's hard to know where to start! The venue is utterly beautiful inside and out, nothing has been overlooked from the chill out room for the couple after the ceremony (or anyone who needs a bit of time out, mothers with babies etc.) to the catering facilities, the heart shaped meadow for amazing confetti photos (with drone flying above to capture it!), the band stand etc. etc. The barns are stunning even before they are dressed with flowers, the grounds are just wonderful. Carol and Nic were incredible both before and during the day, always on hand, took every potent little stress away, always going above and beyond to make our day what it was - utterly perfect.
