Ancient Barns and Woodland Wedding Venue close to Sudbury, Suffolk (on the Suffolk / Essex border). Alpheton Hall Barns forms part of the ancient settlement of Alpheton Hall at the end of a mile long no through road. Surrounded by rolling countryside, meadows and woodland the Barns are adjacent to Alpheton Church as well as offering Barn and woodland ceremony spaces.
Facilities and Capacity
Comprised of two interconnected timber frame barns Alpheton Hall Barns offer plenty of space for your civil ceremony and wedding reception. Restored rather than converted the Barns still feature their original big Barns doors which can be fully open in good weather allowing the outside in. The ancient honey coloured oak beams and lime plaster interiors together with the black feather-boarded exteriors work with any colour scheme.
The Barns are furnished with tables and chairs and essentially everything you need for your ceremony and wedding reception. The South 'Reception' Barn is strung with a myriad of twinkly fairy lights and has lots of rustic detailing such as big iron hoop lights and vintage wooden ladders all with hanging Edison light bulbs, which look stunning on their own or dressed in foliage or flowers. And you are welcome to add your personal decorations to make it 'your' wedding venue.
Outside guests are invited to explore the heart-shaped wildflower confetti arboretum, the wedding garden with brick drinks terraces, bar cart and space for garden games and the Barns courtyard with woodfired pizza oven, ideal for evening food. Whilst the couple can wander into the gardens and meadows around the Barns for their couples photographs.
Suitable for both intimate and larger celebrations. Live music is welcome and the Barns have excellent accoustics and space for a Ceilidh or Barn dance should you wish. Open bar permitted with no corkage payable.
Services Offered
The Alpheton Hall Barns is an exclusive use 'blank canvas' venue. Prices are for Barn rental only but local trusted suppliers would be more than happy to put together a food and drinks package for your day or you can choose your own (subject to approval). Owners Nic and Carol have more than 15 years experience in helping couples host their weddings and love that each wedding is personal to the couple.

The best day ever!
The barns are stunning. Nic and Carol go out of their way to make your day perfect and personalised to you as a couple - any request we made, they found a way to make it happen! They also recommend the most amazing suppliers. We have had so many guests tell us that it’s the best wedding they’ve been to and, although we are completely biased, we completely agree and that’s definitely because it was held at Alpheton Hall Barns!

The best day of our life
Alpheton hall provided the back drop to the best day of our life and Nic and Carol made sure that our vision became a reality. After two years of planning, to see every single detail executed to perfection was absolutely amazing. Nic and Carol both went above and beyond and Alpheton Hall will forever hold a very special place in our hearts.
The Feedback from our guests has been extraordinary, so many have told us its the best wedding they've ever attended, which is a testament to all the hard work they put in.

Nic and Carol Helped Us Make Our Dream Come True
We got married in a small registry service in London last September and always knew we wanted to have a big party the following year. What we didn't know was how challenging it would be to find a barn that would be willing to embrace our unique, if somewhat unconventional, theme - Western. As soon as we arrived at Alpheton Hall Barns we knew we had found the one. Not only is it a GORGEOUS venue (its rustic charm perfectly suited to our theme) but what really won us over were its owners Nic & Carol. During our first meeting with them they were already coming up with fun suggestions for decorations that could help us bring our Dream Western Wedding Party to life. THEY HAVE A BALLOON FILLED WITH CONFETTI WHICH CAN BE POPPED USING A GUN, I MEAN WHAT IS MORE WESTERN THAN THAT?! In the months leading up to party, they were always on hand to answer any questions we may have, and when the day itself finally came last Saturday, they showed up in full force - even dressing on theme themselves! We are incredibly amazed by and grateful for their support, their dedication and enthusiasm, and their willingness to help in any way they could - be it adjusting a belt mere hours before the party, or acting as photoshoot support. No challenge was ever too big and no ask was ever too much for them. We appreciate not everyone is looking to host a crazy cowboy themed wedding party like we did, but choosing Alpheton Hall Barns and choosing Nic & Carol is not going to leave you disappointed - cowboy hats or not!

Our perfect Wedding Day
What an incrediby amazing venue. Carol and Nic gave us exceptional support and guidance in creating our perfect wedding day, our way. Our guests, many from the US were blown away by the gorgeous Barn setting. The sun shone so we were able to fulfill our dreams with alfresco canapes and Cremant to live music and stunning sunset photos. Nothing was too much for Nic and Carol. The day flowed seamlessly into night and we simply didnt want it to end. Thank you so much for the wonderful memories and for making our day just perfect. Xx

Will & Cat Wedding 2026
We had our wedding here in August 2026 and it was such an incredible day. We are so happy we chose Alphetone Hall Barns, all of the personal touches Nic and Carol provided really added a lot to the day and we were blown away with how it all went! The venue and the grounds are just stunning. Nic was a tech genius for getting our band to sound so good and for enabling the karaoke hour which was truly epic! Carol was always there on the day to organise and keep everything running smoothly. We highly highly recommend!

Our Perfect Wedding Day
Two years ago we began our search for a venue. I had always known that I wanted a rustic wedding and wanted to be married outside. Little did I know that a family connection would lead us to our perfect venue. Some 17 years ago my father helped Nic and Carol get their beautiful barns ready to become a wedding venue and as soon as we visited and walked around with Carol I knew that this was the place that I wanted my wedding to be.
The outdoor ceremony glade is so picturesque and tranquil it matched my vision for the wedding perfectly, the way the light danced through the trees and foliage on the hottest day of the year created the ethereal atmosphere I was hoping for. See my new husband's face as I walked down the aisle of the arm of my father is a moment I will never forget. With Carol 'floofing' my train and Nic directing music and movement it was seamless.
The barn itself is so flexible in terms of what it can offer for your reception. Nic and Carol were on hand with ideas of what would and wouldn't work and on the day itself everything was seamless. Guests were so happy, the children were entertained and it really is a venue where you can bring your dreams to life (within reason)
The extensive list of recommended suppliers really helped us with organisation and even when we brought in some of our own they were welcomed with open arms. Our DJ went and spent a happy evening with Nic discussing speakers and inputs and outputs and my chauffer made a special trip to meet Nic and Carol so that he knew exactly what would happen on the day.
Overall I would not hesitate to recommend the barns to anyone if they are looking for a picturesque, unique venue. Nic and Carol go over and above for their couples and really do help to make your day as magical as you would like it to be.

Cannot thank Carol and Nic enough for our special day!
Words are not enough to describe the effort, dedication and commitment that Carol and Nic put in for our very special day.
They are not your standard factory setting, and take absolute personal pride in their work and in their couples. Nic was absolutely amazing with the details and had everything thought through - even a special mauritian / English flag combo!
Carol was very responsive and was so patient with all our questions, which put us at ease leading up to the day. (We absolutely loved her campervan)
The woodland area is absolutely magical and we wish we could redo the day again.
The place is only what it is because of the immense work Carol and Nic put in. 100% would recommend without any hesitation to any future couples!

A Wonderful Wedding at AHB
We had a wonderful wedding at Alpheton Hall Barns.
Being a wedding singer - I have performed at many venues all over Essex and Suffolk and I was keen to go somewhere that felt a bit different, somewhere that didn't have that corporate feel. We knew as soon as we met Carol and Nic and walked into the barns that AHB was the place for us.
Carol and Nic were so helpful from start to finish. They responded to all questions and went the extra mile to make our day feel both personal and special: from drone footage over the confetti garden (which was mowed into the shape of a heart), to filming our ceremony and providing pictures of our day which came up on the screen behind the band during the night. It was a blast from start to finish.
A particularly memorable moment was when Nic set me up with a Britney Spears/Madonna style headset and had me sing my own entrance music to the camera the day before the wedding. It really helped to have a good laugh amongst the chaos as we prepared for the day ahead.

An Amazing Day
What an amazing venue. Carol and Nik were fantastic. We married in the wood on a very hot day. Nik damped down the wood the day before which resulted in a perfect temperature for our ceremony. Nik even set up a misting line in the reception area which our guests absolutely loved. We were a bit clueless on a few things but ideas were put forward which we really appreciated as it's always pays to listen to the experts and they certainly are. We used Amp and Dec, Dominic Carter and Bar Rumba from the Barns recommendation list and we weren't disappointed. Our guests were blown away by the food, we danced the night away as the music was spot on and the bar staff were superb.
We can't thank Carol and Nik enough.

We got married at Alpheton Hall Barns on 21st March 2026, the build up to the day was smooth and well organised with the help of the fantastic Carol and Nic.
On the day they could not do anything more to make our day run to plan, anything and everything we wanted they make sure it happened.
At the end of the evening Nic handed us a memory stick full of photos and videos which he had taken throughout the day which made it even more special as he had captured the day from a different angle from our photographer.
The venue was lovely and we would highly recommend getting married there, everything we needed was in one place which made the day stress free as there was no traveling involved.

Fabulous rustic Suffolk barn venue!
We couldn’t have dreamed of a better wedding venue or better hosts than Nic and Carol. They went above and beyond from start to finish and were genuinely invested in making our day perfect. They added so much fun and positive energy, and ensured everything ran smoothly. The venue itself is a beautiful indoor/outdoor space that worked perfectly for our day.
Nic and Carol have so many ideas to bring so you’re not starting completely from scratch! They were completely supportive of us bringing in our own vendors and worked with each of them with ease.

We couldn't have achieved our vision anywhere else
During our wedding venue search, we browsed many barns across Essex. And while there were lots of lovely options, we just found that they all felt too similar. On top of that, most came with a long list of rules and additional charges that would’ve forced our big ideas into their mould and pushed us over budget. Thankfully, we found a venue that was the complete opposite.
We wanted somewhere that felt authentic and warm, full of character, with a stunning woodland ceremony area and a back-up option we’d be equally excited about if it rained. We found all that and more at Alpheton Hall Barns.
But it’s not just the space that makes this place special, it’s the people at the heart of it. From the very first visit, Carol and Nic’s passion for weddings was obvious. Unlike so many other venues, they don’t treat it like a business. They simply want your day to be the best it can be and give you the freedom and flexibility to make it truly yours.
From lending us decor and letting us set everything up the day before, creating a bespoke music and light show for our grand entrance as Mr & Mrs, to even driving us in their vintage VW camper to and from the ceremony area when we didn’t have any budget for a car, Carol, Nic and their family went above and beyond to help us create our perfect day.
Simply put, we had the absolute best day of our lives and can confidently say we couldn’t have achieved our vision anywhere else but Alpheton Hall Barns. So, if you want a venue unlike any other, and a wedding day that feels truly authentic, wholesome and unique to you, you’ve found your place.

A day filled with love and pure happiness
Where to begin… we honestly can’t thank owners Nic and Carol enough for everything they did for us! The communication leading up to our wedding was amazing, nothing was too much to ask and any questions we had were replied to immediately.
The wedding day was absolutely incredible and even more perfect than what we could have hoped for.
They really do go above and beyond.
Nic was even taking photos through out the wedding day/evening and got some drone footage for us. We couldn’t ask for more.

We are Nic and Carol Willcocks, the owners of Alpheton Hall Barns. We are the people you will meet on your venue tour and we will also be there to guide you on set up / pack down and on your day.
We have been helping couples with their weddings for over 15 years now and love the fact that every wedding is so individual to the couple. We understand that you will be new to wedding planning and we are happy to offer as much or as little guidance and advice on planning your day as you want or need.
