Derek. Del. Delboy. More recently, Deccers. Whatever works for you. Based in Essex and photographing celebrations all over the UK, Derek has spent more than 15 years and hundreds of weddings capturing the laughter, happy tears, big hugs and all the moments in between, and he still can't quite believe he gets to do this.
His style is documentary: sometimes up close, sometimes hanging back, always chasing the moment. It's rooted in wabi-sabi, the Japanese idea of finding beauty in the imperfect and the fleeting. Couples get to enjoy their day while he documents it as it unfolds, watching friends and family come together, circles overlap and lives collide in beautiful, unexpected ways.
Derek shoots on 35mm film alongside digital. Film brings warmth and texture, but more than that it brings a mindset: when every frame counts, he's more considered and more present, and that care runs through every image. Portraits are quick, group shots are simple, and everyone gets back to the celebration.
Every booking starts with a short, informal video call. It's a chance to chat, check the vibe and make sure couples are comfortable with the person who'll be following them around on the day. From Friern Manor to far-flung venues, Derek is always happy to travel for good people and great parties.

Yes, i'm based in Billericay, Essex and travel UK-wide. From local venues to far-flung celebrations, I'm always happy to travel for good people and great parties
What is the charge for travelling?
Travel is included across most of the UK. For longer distances or overnight stays, any extra costs will always be discussed clearly in advance — no surprises

I use a relaxed documentary approach, blending in like a guest. I shoot digital & 35mm film and include GoPro ceremony footage to capture each wedding naturally and honestly

I use professional digital cameras alongside 35mm film cameras, and a GoPro for video footage during the ceremony to capture real moments naturally and beautifully

We truly couldn’t be happier that we chose Derek as our wedding photographer. We just received our photos back and looking through them genuinely felt like reliving the entire day all over again.
What amazed us most was how many of the tiny moments he managed to capture. There were little things we talked about after the wedding that we never could have dreamed of having photos of and somehow, Derek got them all.
The photos are beautiful and feel so natural and true to the day. Derek was also such a pleasure to have with us from start to finish. Most of the time you don’t even notice he’s there, but whenever you do, you’re genuinely happy to have him around! He made everything feel so easy and comfortable.
We are soooo happy we chose Derek to capture our wedding and will treasure these photos forever. We couldn’t recommend him more to anyone looking for a wedding photographer!!

We are so happy that we chose Derek as our wedding photographer! His documentary style was exactly what we wanted, and he captured so many incredible candid shots of us and our guests throughout the day. The pictures are absolutely stunning and we can't stop looking through them.
Derek is such a lovely, down to earth guy who put everyone completely at ease - especially me and my husband who aren't massive fans of having our picture taken! He fitted right in with our guests and made the whole experience so enjoyable. We would recommend him in a heartbeat! Thank you so much 😊

The BEST photographer
The most amazing photos! Derek always stayed in touch and was so accommodating with my hubby being on crutches (which was a last minute change) we got the most perfect photos without crutches and some amazing ones in the moment. Derek will literally go above and beyond for your day and makes you feel so comfortable. I have had people ask me for his details for there weddings and lots of people still talking about our amazing photographer months after

Amazing 10/10 🤍
Del delivered everything we’d hoped for and more as our wedding photographer. Throughout the day he was an incredibly calming presence, especially during our group photos which I wanted over and done with in lightening speed and he made it happen seamlessly!! He captured the chaos and fun on our dancefloor so perfectly we’ll be laughing at the photos for years to come. But most importantly, he clearly understood how important all of our friends and family were to us and has given us such a beautiful gallery full of moments we will cherish and revisit forever. We cannot recommend him enough 🤍

Blended into the day perfectly!
I apologise for not writing a review sooner! Derek was absolutely amazing on our wedding day on the 8th of August! From our initial consultation all the way up to the day itself he was nothing short of professional! On the day he was patient and caring and was great at giving directions for the few staged shots we had. We were looking for someone who was more casual with the photos so real emotions/reaction were captured and he delivered that 100%. He was great fun to be around as well and blended into the day perfectly! Thank you for being a part of our day and I can’t recommend you enough.

Amazing photographer!!
Derek is so professional, responsive, flexible and easy to communicate with. We only wanted a few posed shots and the rest natural moments being captured and he absolutely delivered. My family don't like posing for photos but he captured so many genuine moments of us all just having fun.
He wasn't intrusive on the day, he just blended in. We were only away from our guests for a short time for couples photos which was great as we wanted to enjoy every minute with our guests. He was so relaxed and friendly people thought we must already know him. But he's just a genuinely lovely bloke and made us feel at ease. I would 100% recommend to anyone, especially if you want a mix of documentary style photos and posed shots as you can have any combination of the two you want.

Amazing guy & amazing photography
Derek was amazing from start to finish, we had a zoom call & discussed our wedding which was a twilight.. Derek had the perfect package for us.

The Real Emotion of the Day
We met Derek after he did an engagement shoot for us. We liked his natural style so much we booked him for our wedding and to photo us christening our daughter a year later. You don't even realize he's taking your photo, all images are taken with the real emotion of the day. We've had many comments from guests on how fantastic he is, Derek made our day so relaxed. Absolute fantastic photographer and man, could not ask for any more. Although I now need more excuses to need a photographer.

He made me feel so relaxed like I’ve known him for years
We got Derek at short notice for our wedding. We only booked for 2 hours. He came early and started taking photos straight away. Our ceremony was running late and I was so anxious and he made me feel so relaxed like I’ve known him for years. He captured every special moment and all the photos was amazing. I would definitely recommend him to everyone and will definitely book him again for other special occasions.
