A Fun Las Vegas Wedding With a Photoshoot at The Neon Museum

Sophie and Matt chose a cool Las Vegas chapel for their wedding and partied the night away at the High Roller Ferris wheel bar with 11 close friends and family

Sophie Mitchell and Matthew Williams decided to forgo a traditional wedding and get hitched in Las Vegas in June 2019 after two and a half years together.

The ceremony took place at Chapel of the Flowers, one of the oldest venues on The Strip, and, in true Vegas style, Sophie and her bridesmaids showed up in a limo!

The couple have always kept things fun and got engaged while on holiday in Amsterdam. Matt got down on one knee on the city’s padlock bridge and pulled out a padlock engraved with the words ‘Will you marry me?’ and a 1920s, Art Deco engagement ring.

After their ceremony on The Strip, the couple toured the city in a party van with their friends and hired a photographer to capture these amazing photos at The Neon Museum and across Downtown Vegas! You’ll be inspired to book flights after reading this…

The Wedding Dress

Sophie chose an embellished full-length gown with spaghetti straps that felt cool and contemporary. She was able to keep it on all day as it was so comfy and easy-to-wear, even in the 48 degree Las Vegas heat!

“My dress was beautiful, light and bohemian, covered in ruffles, embroidery and sequins. It was made by Needle & Thread.

“I purchased it online and I knew it was ‘the one’ the minute I put it on. It was so unusual I’d never seen anything like it. Vegas was SO hot that day – above 48 degrees! – but luckily the dress was so light it made the heat bearable.

“I wore it with beaded drop earrings and a beautiful draped veil I purchased from eBay to keep in the bohemian feel.

“I did my own makeup (I’m fussy about my makeup and don’t like wearing a lot!) but I hired a stylist to come to my hotel room at the Venetian Hotel the morning of the wedding to do my hair. I’d never met her before, but I’d sent her a photo previously and she managed to do it EXACTLY how I wanted it. She was amazing! I was over the moon.”

The Bridal Party

Sophie asked her closest friends to be her bridesmaids. They wore gorgeous lilac bridesmaid dresses from ASOS and topped off with the accessory of the day: sunglasses!

“I had three bridesmaids. My best friends Lindsey, Charlotte and Jo. They wore dusky lilac, diamanté, racerback dresses. They were floor length and, again, very light. The dresses were from ASOS, and we found them online and selected them together.

“I chose a bouquet of white roses and eucalyptus for my bridal bouquet. Matt had a matching buttonhole and the bridesmaids had a singular rose to carry.”

The Groomswear

Although wearing a suit in the Vegas heat didn’t do anything to keep Matt cool, it did ensure the couple looked sharp in all of their photos. While the focus might usually be on the bride’s ring, Sophie had got him a very special surprise for Christmas that he was finally able to wear.

“Matt wore a light blue/grey suit jacket by Moss Bros. He wore it with navy blue chinos, a bow tie and brown leather boat shoes from ASOS.

“My wedding ring was a tiny plain silver band to fit under my engagement ring. I surprised Matt with his wedding ring at Christmas. It’s made from meteorite & megalodon tooth and purchased from Etsy!

“I gave Matt’s mum a romantic card for him to open and read on the morning of the wedding and an Armani watch so he also wore that on the big day.”

The Ceremony

Not everyone wants to get married by an Elvis impersonator, so Sophie and Matthew chose to get married at one of the oldest and most elegant chapels on The Strip, the Chapel of the Flowers.

“We picked Chapel of the Flowers as we wanted to stick to Vegas tradition but wanted to have a beautiful setting. Our ceremony was in the Glass Gardens room. It had a glass roof that you could have set to any day or night lighting you wanted. The room looked like a enchanted forest.

“Me and the bridesmaids were picked up in a limo supplied by our chapel to take us to the venue on the morning. Chapel of the Flowers were brilliant from start to finish. I would highly recommend them. My family were unable to fly out so I walked down the aisle solo! But all our family and friends were able to watch the ceremony live on the website at home.

“I walked down the aisle to our song, a cello instrumental version of Something Just Like This by Coldplay and the Chain Smokers.”

The Reception

After their ceremony, the couple met up with their photographer, Jab Buhay, who organised a party van to tour the city, taking photos in locations such as Downtown Vegas and the famous Neon Museum.

Bursting with old signs from casinos and hotels, the ‘neon boneyard’ is one of the most Instagrammable spots in Sin City. (Hot tip: if you want to do a full photoshoot here, you’ll need to book an appointment ahead of time, otherwise you’ll have to take some quick snaps on a tour!) And that incredible colourful mural can be found on Fremont Street!

“Afterwards, we went for our reception three course meal at the Gordon Biersch Brewery. We had our own private room. It was very relaxed, just what we wanted. Matt’s mum made a speech and so did Matt. It was beautiful.

“After this we all headed over to the High Roller which is the HUGE wheel in Las Vegas that overlooks the whole Strip. We got all-inclusive drinks and had a great time. We continued on to a few bars and casinos and had the best evening anyone could ask for.”
