Woolas Barn is a unique rural wedding venue in York, North Yorkshire UK, offering services to couples hosting their special day. Originally built in 1863 and renovated in 2018, this stunning venue sits on a family-run 400-acre farm and offers couples the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern facilities. Conveniently located just 20 minutes from York and 30 minutes from Leeds centre, it is the perfect place for couples to create the bespoke wedding celebrations of their dreams. The dedicated team prides themselves on providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere and loves working with couples on such a momentous occasion.
Facilities and Capacity
Woolas Barn caters to weddings with up to 120 guests. There are four ceremony and reception locations available. Couples can exchange vows in the dedicated ceremony room, a unique area that was once the stable for the farm’s working horses. The space has been lovingly restored and features the original brickwork and exposed timber beams which give it a delightful rustic charm and elegance. Outside, the large courtyard boasts stunning views of the Yorkshire Wolds and is the perfect place to toast marshmallows over the firepits when the sun goes down. Couples can host their drinks reception in the oldest part of the property, the Granary. This magnificent space exudes a rich sense of history and features a rustic bar, reception area, and most importantly, space where guests can strut their stuff when the music starts. Upstairs lie two cosy snugs providing the perfect place to enjoy a chat with old friends over a cocktail or two. Finally, the Lambing Shed boasts a striking vaulted ceiling and glass doors that provide views across the courtyard and beyond. This space is ideal for a wedding breakfast and can host up to 120 of your closest friends and family.
Services Offered
The Woolas Barn team offers a range of services and packages that can be tailored to the needs of each couple. An onsite wedding coordinator is available who will ensure that each client's big day is a seamless and enjoyable experience. Couples can enjoy exclusive use of the facilities for the duration of the wedding. Outside vendors are welcome and the team can supply a list of trusted suppliers if required. There is a dancefloor and live music facilities onsite to facilitate bands and DJs. This hidden gem is easily accessible, has facilities for disabled guests, and plenty of parking.

Woolas Barn is magical
Perfect venue for the perfect day
Woolas was the first of three venues we looked at, and we knew pretty much straightaway it was the one for us. As the daughter of a farmer, we loved how authentic and rustic it was, as opposed to purpose-built wedding barns, and the fact they only hold one wedding a week, for a select period of the year, made it feel more personal and less like you are on a wedding conveyer belt.
From day one, James encouraged us to use Woolas as a blank canvas - with the exception of the in-house caterers, we could bring in whichever vendors we wanted and do whatever we wanted with the place, e.g. putting specific beers on tap behind the bar.
As for Fusion, the in-house caterers, WOW. We have lost count of the number of guests who have told us it was the best wedding food they have ever had. We loved the process of selecting our menu. We chose the Asado Feast for our main course, but were able to ask for our own starters and desserts, which Charlie the head chef went away and created his own, incredible versions of. It meant we were able to put our own little touches on everything. On the day of the wedding, our guests loved the personalised service of the Fusion team, including the waiting staff knowing their names as they put their plates down, while it was absolutely no issue for Fusion to include a lit candle on the dessert of a guest whose birthday it was.
Finally, a special mention for the incredible Emily, our wedding planner. Her ideas, advice and gorgeous little touches made planning our wedding far easier than we ever expected. She was a joy to work with and on the day, we were blown away by just how perfectly she had nailed our vision and how seamlessly it all ran.
To James, Emily and all the team at Woolas, thank you will never be enough. You’re all the absolute best and we will never forget everything you did for us.

Best day of our lives
James and the team at Woolas were fantastic. The venue has such a relaxed, family-run atmosphere, which really sets it apart from others that can sometimes feel like wedding “factories.” We loved that they only host one wedding a week, making the whole experience feel so personal and special.
The hospitality team at Fusion were equally outstanding. So many of our guests commented that it was the best wedding food they’d ever had! They were incredibly flexible with our menu and drinks choices, allowing us to create exactly the experience we wanted for our guests. On the day, the staff went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly and that everyone was well looked after.

Incredible Venue!
We were also particularly impressed with how accommodating the venue were with what we wanted to do. There was no pushiness with regards to choosing certain suppliers - it was all down to us and James was happy to make anything we wanted to do work.
In terms of value for money, Woolas is spectacular. During our initial venue exploration phase, we looked at several venues - many of whom were significantly more expensive than Woolas, however they did not provide nearly as much space, opportunity or beauty as Woolas Barn did.
We can only give a huge thank you to all of the staff at Woolas, but especially to James & family, EmilyKWeddings and all of our suppliers that made the day as phenomenal as it was.
Woolas Barn truly provided us with the greatest day of our lives.
