About
The Monastery is a beautifully restored 14th century Monastery in the medieval town of Rye, combining monastic architecture with 20th century industrial additions, a palazzo-style walled stone garden and exquisite decoration by Alex MacArthur Interiors. This eclectic mix of different architectural styles and design elements creates an atmosphere unlike any traditional wedding venue.
The main-floor chapel, with its spiritual, historic atmosphere and beautiful natural light, is perfectly suited for ceremonies. Meanwhile, the ground-floor industrial space, with its edgy concrete flooring, limewash walls, and corten steel beams, is the perfect space to host the after-party or reception. The industrial space leads directly out into the walled garden, a large, private space perfect for outdoor celebrations and with a magnificent view of the northeast facade of the Monastery, lined with cypress trees and with a distinctly mediterranean feel.
The high windows on both the northeast and southwest facades of the building create gorgeous illumination within the main-floor chapel and industrial space below, with the light varying in tone and brilliance with every hour leading to extraordinary visual effects that change with the passing of the day.
We offer six exclusive weddings per annum, and create bespoke offerings tailored to each couple specifically. For this reason, we do not have a brochure or standard offering as we aim to create a truly unique and memorable experience for a stylish couple that appreciates architecture, design, and individuality as much as the celebration itself.
The main floor chapel has a maximum capacity of 130 guests for a ceremony and wedding breakfast, with the entire building able to safely host up to 355 guests for a reception or after party.
