Daisy – The Heart of Our Wedding Experience

The absolute standout of our entire journey was Daisy. From the very first meeting, she was a beacon of calm, joy, and professionalism. She guided us through every stage of planning with thoughtfulness and care, taking the time to understand our vision and bringing it to life in ways we didn’t even know were possible. Daisy went above and beyond—organising planning meetings, collaborating with our florist, and personally designing the tables with our stationery on the day (a detail we hadn’t even requested, but it was perfect).
When you book a 5-star hotel for your wedding, you don’t expect to get a 6-star person, but that’s exactly what Daisy is. She truly made our day unforgettable, and we can never thank her enough for how supported and special she made us feel.

Freddie & the Concierge Team – A Masterclass in Service

Equally remarkable was Freddie and his concierge team, who made our guests feel like royalty. From ensuring all luggage was promptly delivered to rooms to greeting guests warmly and bidding them farewell with care, every moment of interaction was polished and personal. Freddie orchestrated the comings and goings of our guests with such grace—it didn’t go unnoticed, and it added a touch of seamless luxury to the weekend that everyone commented on.

The Hotel – A Grand Home Away from Home

We stayed in the Grand Heritage Suite, which felt more like a private residence than a hotel room—it was luxurious yet cozy, and the housekeepers truly went above and beyond to ensure everything was just right. They were so kind and attentive, always checking if there was anything we needed. We were also so touched to see The Grand proudly flying the Pride flag outside the hotel all weekend—from our check-in on Friday to our farewell on Monday. It meant the world to us and was a beautiful gesture of love and inclusion that we’ll never forget.
The venue itself is breathtaking, and our guests were genuinely stunned by its elegance and character. Many mentioned not only how impressive it was, but also how inviting it felt—a rare and perfect combination.

The Personal Touches That Made the Day Extra Special

What makes The Grand truly magical are the little moments that showed us this was far more than just a venue—it was a family. One of the most touching examples: our friend’s young son is obsessed with trains, and knowing the building’s historic link to the railway, staff took the time to give him a behind-the-scenes tour, showing him the areas once used as the railway’s headquarters. It meant the world to him—and to us. That kind of thoughtfulness is priceless.

The Grand, York gave us the wedding of a lifetime. So much so, we’ve already booked to return for our first anniversary—we simply couldn’t imagine not coming back. It’s not just a hotel; it’s a place full of heart, elegance, and people who genuinely care about making every moment meaningful.

To Daisy, Freddie, the housekeepers, and everyone at The Grand—thank you for making our wedding the most special, personal, and joy-filled celebration we could have ever imagined. You gave us lifelong memories, and we will forever be grateful.

The Grand took excellent care of us from the first point of contact through to check out on the morning after our wedding day.

Daisy is a gem, and it was a pleasure to plan our wedding with her. She took the time to listen to our plans and also gave us great ideas for how to elevate them. We had an intimate wedding for four people, and Daisy understood that intimate did not mean lesser or less celebratory, but instead helped us to realise our vision for the day.

At no time did we feel that ours was just another wedding at a wedding venue, but instead, that our day was special and important to everyone involved in the hotel, from the concierge through to the staff members in the spa.

All our queries were always welcomed, and never did we feel that we could not ask a question or make a request.

The setup of the room was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the general attention to detail was perfect. The suite we were provided was exceptional, and we loved the attention shown by the cards, drinks and gifts provided.

All in all, we could not have asked for more, and will be back to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, food and service on many occasions to come.

We are both so pleased we chose The Grand as our wedding venue and it will always be a truly special place to us. We cannot express how well we were treated, from the moment we arrived the day before our wedding to when we left the day after. We were absolutely stunned by the suite we were booked into for both nights – by far the most luxurious hotel room we have ever stayed in and it was a dream to get ready in on the wedding morning.
We would have to write a very long review to list all of the ways The Grand made our stay so special, but to list a few: Sandro and Nigel the doormen were exceedingly friendly and helpful, Eslam made the check-in process completely relaxing and efficient (offering us mulled wine while we waited for our room), James was always quick to offer assistance and came to our room to transport our wedding cake to the kitchen when we had expected to take it ourselves, and Daisy, Callum and Simon in the events team worked incredibly hard before and on our wedding day to make sure it ran smoothly and our guests were all happy throughout. What really impressed us was how much care every single member of staff at The Grand seemed to show towards making our wedding as wonderful as possible for us. Even if something didn’t quite go to plan (as happens with every wedding day), it felt like the team genuinely wanted to help and provide the best solution. Daisy was helpful and clear through the full planning process and was able to answer all our questions as they came up. We were particularly impressed that The Grand held a weekend menu tasting to accommodate us given we don’t live in York.
All of our guests have detailed how much they enjoyed the whole stay and they keep telling us how much they look forward to coming back to The Grand to stay again soon – they couldn’t have been more impressed!

Daisy & all the staff at The Grand Hotel made are day extra special, the service is outstanding nothing too much trouble, it felt like everyone we spoke to was aware we were getting married, stayed for 2 nights in The Grand Heritage Suite, great room for the ladies to get ready in. The food on the Wedding day was incredible we would highly recommend the Chairman’s suite for a more intimate small Wedding.

Between daisy and Simon our day was truly the most magical day, it ran so smoothly without a single hickup and we can’t thank them enough. The team at grand are exceptional at what they do! We had a smaller wedding reception and it felt so intimate and special

We had our breakfast and reception at the Grand in May and couldn't have asked for more. Daisy and the team were attentive and responsive throughout the planning process, especially during the stressful month leading up to the big day. The planning was made so much less stressful knowing our day was in capable hands, and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing and the evening do was so much fun. We will definitely be returning for our anniversary!

Daisy, Elizabeth and the rest of the team were fabulous. Our day ran seamlessly and we couldn't have asked for more. We were slightly apprehensive that the wedding executive had changed not long after we booked the venue but Daisy couldn't have provided a better service, the consideration given to our guests with additional requirements was great. Everyone says planning a wedding is stressful but Daisy and the team made it feel like the easiest thing in the world

The Grand were nothing short of incredible, they made our dream day into a reality. We will never get over how incredible it was, Daisy’s suggestions really helped make our day what it was. All the staff were so amazing and lovely. It was a day we will never ever forget. 🤍

We had the most amazing intimate, small wedding here in January 2024. The Grand looks absolutely stunning at Christmas time with all the decorations. Everything was perfect, the staff (particularly the events team) are hugely attentive, the ceremony room was beautiful and our evening dining experience was fabulous. The hotel suite was really spacious for our 10 month old baby too. We would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of tying the knot here. Just superb!!

We'd never stayed at The Grand before but had heard great things about it. All of our expectations were surpassed, we couldn't have asked for a better time there and were a little bit sad to leave. Everybody at The Grand made us feel really special throughout our stay. We also really appreciate the effort that went into organising and running our reception - we all enjoyed ourselves and loved the meal, and the room was beautiful.

We'll definitely be back, we've already decided to return for our anniversary!

We had the most amazing wedding at The Grand on Sunday 3rd December 2023.
The hotel is absolutely stunning, it was decorated so beautifully for Christmas. From the moment we walked in the hotel door we felt at home. Despite the hotel being so grand it has a beautiful cosy and warm feeling about it, and smells divine.
Our bedroom suite was unbelievable, I was overcome with emotion when I walked in, completely overwhelmed by its stunning features…and the bath…wow, I felt so lucky to be staying in such a magnificent hotel.
The suite was absolutely perfect for my bridal party and I to get ready in, there was so much space.
The grand board room was absolutely wonderful for our ceremony and wedding breakfast, the tree by the window was simply magical. When I close my eyes I am back in that room and that's a memory il treasure forever.
The staff were nothing but amazing from start to finish! All our guests on the day had any need they had catered for by the catering staff who were so attentive and so warm and friendly. How the room was set up was absolutely beautiful, and the turn arounds seamless.
We can not thank The Grand enough, our families and I are so grateful to The Grand, it will hold a very special place in our hearts for an eternity.

Where to begin with the experience we had for our Wedding at The Grand.

From our first visit to the Venue a year prior, to check-out after our Wedding stay the experience was faultless.

The character and architecture of the Hotel itself is simply stunning, making it the perfect place for any occasion.

Every member of staff we engaged with, both within the Events Team and Hotel Teams, provided faultless service and continually went above and beyond for us and the rest of our party. Both the Wedding area and Hotel bedrooms were immaculate. Additionally, the reception team kindly upgraded our bedroom us as part of our post-wedding stay at the Hotel.

Our Wedding Co-ordinator Gail made the event simply magical. She supported us throughout the whole process, answered every question we had and removed all the stress in the run-up to the day. She is a star.

The concierge and reception upon arrival were supportive and ensured all our bags and boxes for the Wedding were seamlessly moved to the storage area in readiness for the Wedding day.

Throughout the day, every staff member provided a superior service making sure every guest was welcomed and attended to. A special mention to the doormen on the day and evening of the Wedding for supporting our elderly guests and providing company while they needed a moment of fresh air.

I would recommend The Grand not only for a Wedding but for any occasion or stay!
