Silverholme is a wedding venue located on the 5,000-acre privately owned Graythwaite estate in Windermere, Cumbria. A stunning Georgian manor house that is set amid rolling fields directly on the unspoilt shores of the most famous of the Lake District's lakes - Lake Windermere. This region of outstanding national beauty has inspired a generation of romantic poets and is an unforgettable place in which to tie the knot. It is ideal for nature lovers who dream of getting hitched away from the hustle and bustle of big-city life.
Facilities and Capacity
There are several indoor and outdoor event spaces for you to choose from at Silverholme. Outdoor ceremonies can unfold on the panoramic patio overlooking the Lake, with only the house, the fields, the trees and the Lake itself to frame your photographs. During the cooler months or on wetter days, equally romantic ceremonies can take place in the Coach House or Drawing Room of the manor house itself. Receptions can follow either under a large marquee/tipi on the venue's grounds or inside the main rooms. Regardless of your choice, all the settings have lots of space for seats, a dance floor, and a live DJ or band, should you desire.
Wedding packages are for three days, giving you ample time to relax with guests and make your wedding ceremony only one part of an intimate, relaxing and memorable holiday with your nearest and dearest.
Accommodation
The house itself offers eight individually styled en-suite bedrooms and an original coachman's cottage in the gardens that sleeps 2, making a total of 18 guests. In addition, there are 30 self-catering cottages across the estate, the majority only a short distance from Silverholme. This way, up to 200 guests may all stay on the estate.
Services Offered
The events staff at this venue will work closely with you to make sure that you have the wedding of your dreams. They have a list of recommended caterers and marquee/tipi providers, who all have a great deal of experience in providing outstanding weddings in this dream-like location. In addition, there are multiple activities (off-road driving, archery, axe throwing and all sorts of water events on the Lake!) that can be organised on the estate to entertain your guests and ensure that everyone has the most joyous time in the beautiful and breathtaking Lake District.

Beautiful!
Silverholme is great because you can curate your exact wedding vision as everything is hired in externally. We hired the stretch tent from Silverholme and the team who set everything up were brilliant and there from 7am to ensure everything was perfect for us.
Vanessa and the team were brilliant and so helpful - nothing was too much trouble and we loved the extra details - the robes for all of our guests, the welcome pack etc.
The Manor itself is absolutely beautiful and the surrounding area is like something out of a film.
Would HIGHLY recommend.

If you’re looking for the perfect venue for your dream weekend then Silverholme is the one for you. Every single one of our guests referenced how spectacular the venue was with stunning views in an idyllic setting. The house works perfectly across a long weekend with amazing facilities as well as great access down to the lake. We loved every element of the location with cottages available nearby for guests, water sport equipment available to rent & loads of local hotels & Airbnb's to accommodate whatever suited our guests.
Despite the fact that Silverholme is clearly one of the most incredible venues in the country, it was Vanessa (the venue’s host) who was the star of the show. Vanessa was absolute brilliant to work with throughout the whole process and couldn’t do enough for us in support with our preparation. She went above and beyond our expectation and our only disappointment was that she didn’t stay for the full wedding weekend as she was so much fun. Vanessa & her maintenance team helped so much with our prep, we simply couldn’t have done it without them.
Thank you so much to Silverholme & to Vanessa for providing the weekend of our dreams. If anyone is considering booking this glorious venue, get it booked, we promise that you won’t be let down.

What a place for a special occasion!
Brilliant Wedding Venue!
The venue was completely perfect for a wedding, with ample space of our marquee, a beautiful coach house for the ceremony, and plenty of space in the house to hosts guests. The lawn is beautiful for the guests to enjoy drinks on and they were able to dash for cover when the occasional shower arrived. There was also ample room for a kitchen to be set up next to marquee.
We had a magical day in a beautiful location where the staff at Silverholme were extremely helpful in getting everything set up. I couldn't recommend it more!

Vanessa you were amazing, our guests didn't get to see the hardwork you put into things for us, that is testament to how seamless everything was. Thank you for greeting us on arrival, for the welcome hampers and wines (lovely touch, very personal) to helping on the wedding day, helping me with my dress, and getting me unstuck! We really appreciated everything you did, the changes you have made to the property have only enhanced it and the Graythwaite Estate is truly lucky to have you.
Thanks again, and we will be back one day, not sure when, but Silverholme Manor and Graythwaite Estate will always have a special place in our heart.
Glorious venue and wonderful team
1. There are very few, if any, places in the Lake District where you can combine a lakeside setting with enough accommodation for lots of guests. The Graythwaite estate of which Silverholme is a part has enough cottages within walking distance not to make travel between accommodation and venue ok.
2. The team were fantastic throughout and were incredibly helpful in making our vision for the event come true, whether it was a mountain top paella or turning the coach house in to a night club.
3.There is a great network of suppliers who are adept at navigating the idiosyncrasies of the location. We used Karen Rhodes, Little Barn Bar, Smoke and Steel and Original Marquees and would recommend them all.
4. You can bring your own booze!
Finally a huge shout out to Vanessa who was instrumental in pulling things together.

BEST venue for a wedding!
We loved the homey-feel of the venue. They have preserved a lot of it's vintage charm while providing cozy and comfortable rooms and maintaining high-end facilities in the kitchen and bathrooms. Our guests spent time hanging by the fire in the great room, playing lawn games on the front lawn and exploring the grounds. We offered a bus tour/ golf trip as well which was incredibly convenient from their location and went off without a hitch.
We rented Low Graythwaite Hall, Hullet Hall and Grubbings as well for guests. Our wedding ceremony was in the adjoining coach house, which was perfect for 50 guests.
Vanessa helped us to book everything, and coordinated with other Graythwaite Estate managers to extend out to Grubbings Cottage. She offered us viewings, was prompt with questions and was quick to respond to any issue we had (e.g. we requested cots last minute for visiting families and she got them set up within the hour).
If you have a larger party, they set up a marquee on the grounds which I imagine would be wonderful as well with the lake views. We used the Coach House for more than just the ceremony - we had a pub-night there the night before and it held our dinner and reception beautifully.

Meet the team
I joined the Graythwaite Estate in 2022 initially to run Silverholme Manor and Low Graythwaite Hall. I now head up leisure with responsibility for our 38 holiday cottages and events across the Estate.
I love the Lakes and I love my job - especially watching so many happy couples tie the knot at Silverholme. The Estate is stunning and every day I feel blessed to live in this beautiful part of the country.
A southerner by birth, I have lived and worked all over the world. I am passionate about wildlife and the outdoors, which is great as Graythwaite is a leader in rewilding initiatives.
Kiera joined the Estate Office team in April 2025 and is "all things admin!" She is an integral part of the team and will be helping happy couples to put cottages on hold for their wedding celebrations and many other admin tasks involved with weddings.
Kiera is from Kendal and is a font of local knowledge!
Damian joined the Graythwaite Estate in 2020. He is head of our maintenance team and as such is a busy man across our 38 properties and 5000 acres.
He is always on hand to help with Silverholme Manor and the setting up requirements for weddings, as well as looking after the grounds.
Damian was born in New Zealand and moved to the UK with his wife who came from the Lakes. Similar in geography, he feels very at home here!
