Perched above the lake and surrounded by breathtaking views of the rolling Lake District fells, Merewood is the perfect place for celebrations of all sizes, whether that’s an intimate elopement for two or a grand, exclusive-use celebration for up to 120 day guests and 200 evening guests.
Steeped in history and full of character, our charming country house combines classic elegance with warm hospitality, ensuring your special day feels every bit as magical as the landscape that surrounds it.
Your Perfect Ceremony Setting
Exchange vows in the stunning Lonsdale Suite, with its original features and views across the beautifully landscaped gardens, or embrace the beauty of the outdoors with a romantic garden terrace ceremony overlooking the sparkling waters of Lake Windermere.
For more intimate celebrations, choose a romantic outdoor ceremony on our terrace, or exchange vows within one of our elegant and characterful indoor spaces. Say “I do” in the charming Green Room, the cosy and romantic Library with its open fireplace, or the light-filled Drawing Room, each offering beautiful views across the gardens, lake and surrounding fells.
Wedding Packages
With five packages to choose from, there’s something to suit every style of celebration. For intimate weddings, our ‘Just Us’ package is perfect for elopements of two to 15 guests, while ‘Just a Few of Us’ is designed for micro weddings of 16–30 guests.
For larger celebrations, our ‘Southey’ and ‘Coleridge’ packages offer something truly special, with full exclusivity of our charming country house, exquisite AA Rosette dining and everything you need to make your day truly memorable.
For those looking to add an extra touch of fun and personality to their reception, our ‘Wordsworth’ package comes complete with unique extras, including our ‘Ring for a Drink’ drinks wall and 360° photo booth — creating unforgettable moments for you and your guests to enjoy.

The venue was absolutely beautiful and the perfect setting for our special day. Every member of staff was so polite, friendly and attentive, and nothing was ever too much trouble. They made us feel so special and ensured everything ran smoothly from start to finish.

Amazing venue!
Brilliant from start to finish
All the way from our first meeting with them up until the day, they were so helpful and friendly, always replying to messages quickly and doing anything they could to help (including silly things like "can you send me a photo of your dining chairs please?" Or, "What are the width and height of your tables, I've last minute decided to go for table-runners!")
So many of the guests commented how friendly and welcoming the staff were, and how lovely and private and scenic the hotel was.
I can't recommend them enough, your wedding will be great if you go with them.
Beautiful venue, professional through and through
The perfect day
When we put down our deposit, we were sent a list of recommended suppliers. We don’t live in the same county as the venue so this was useful for us as clients to be able to find suppliers from a distance or at least have a starting point for our searches.
There was some miscommunication at times between ourselves and coordinators, however everything worked out best in the end and on the day, we couldn’t have wished for anything better. If we could do our day over, we would get married here every single time.

Meet the team
As an Events Management graduate with over four years of experience, I bring a genuine passion for planning and a meticulous eye for detail. In 2026, I relocated to the Lake District to join the Merewood team, where I can combine my experience with my love of creating unforgettable wedding experiences.
My favourite part of my role is getting to know each couple and helping bring their unique vision to life, from our very first conversation through to their special day.
Top tip: Remember, it’s your day! Do whatever makes you happy and try not to worry too much about other people’s opinions.
With a background in hospitality and a degree in International Hospitality and Tourism Business Management, I joined Lake District Country Hotels in 2025. I quickly discovered a real love for weddings and the joy of helping couples bring their ideas to life.
I love getting to know each couple, hearing all about their plans and being part of the little moments along the way. For me, it’s the personal touches and seeing everything come together on the day that make being part of a wedding so special.
Top tip: Don’t forget to take a little time away from the whirlwind of the big day, just the two of you. Even 10 minutes alone together can be a really special moment that you’ll look back on for years to come.
