Both of the suites are beautifully finished with neutral décor to act as a blank canvas for your colour schemes and style; you can put your own stamp on the space.

Your wedding breakfast at East Sussex National is created by our excellent team of chefs who create tantalising dishes using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, earning us 2 AA rosettes.

    Awful wedding reception experience

    We had our wedding at the East Sussex National after 3 cancellations due to covid. In this time we had 5-6 various different wedding coordinators, each time we had to re confirm all of our details as nothing was kept on file which was very difficult. They also kept trying to change things that we already had confirmed in writing / contract IE minimum numbers, food choices etc trying to over charge what was in the original contract and giving the feeling they just wanted to make more money.

    The current wedding coordinator doesn’t work weekends for viewings of the hotel or meetings for current bride and grooms which if you work full time just doesn’t work.

    On the day we had countless failures by the venue itself which after the wedding we gave them the opportunity to comment on and try to resolve but instead after a week got an email from the general manager to fob us off offering us a 2 night stay FOC which we declined, as to us it was more important to get answers to our problems so it doesn’t happen for future bride and grooms. When we replied asking for answers the manager Vivek didn’t have the decency to respond.
    To keep this short I have bullet pointed the issues we faced with the venue on the day with some major issues that they refused to address.

    ◦ Wedding coordinator wasn’t present on the day. The confirmed staff member wasn’t who we had on the day, however she did her best given the limited information she was provided. We later found the paperwork for our day, it was half ours and half for the wedding the weekend before so no wonder there was confusion. Small things things weren’t done like hoover carpets, iron linen and light candles prior to the wedding breakfast.

    ◦ The aircon couldn’t be turned on. For a summer wedding it was sweltering.

    ◦ Drinks prices were different between the venue bar and main hotel bar, guests kept leaving the reception to get cheaper drinks downstairs.

    ◦ Guests partial and even full drinks were cleared away without permission whilst dancing (a money grab on the venues part as far as we are concerned)

    ◦ Not all of the food we provided for the evening reception was put out nor was it returned (stackable items like Lindor chocolates, crisps & fruit) we provided boxes for left over food / cheese / cake to be taken away by guests these were removed by the venue and “lost” so we had a LOT of food waste. Not to mention the expensive phantom boxes.

    ◦ We also provided bags for guests on check in (designer toiletries, food drink & a personalised wedding door hanger to invite them to a group breakfast the next morning. These weren’t handed out check in which we didn’t find out until the next morning at breakfast.

    ◦ The hotel had also over booked the hotel rooms meaning some guests didn’t get the rooms they had booked and were even forced to pay for a second room on the night!

    ◦ Our wedding cake was taken away to be served after cutting, however it wasn’t returned. After asking multiple times the groom ended up in the kitchen to find it at about 10pm. This led to a LOT of wasted food, again.

    ◦ The reception room itself wasn’t laid out correctly or the room hoovered. This was reflected in the honeymoon suite which was very run down, dirty & didn’t even have a fridge or ice for a bottle of champagne in the evening. This made the getting ready photos very hard to take to avoid blemishes on the walls floors, the windows were dirty and the balcony rusty and unpainted. It also had 2 single beds pushed together! Not ideal for a ‘honeymoon suite’…


    Overall our day was ruined at the reception stage by constantly having to chase staff for frankly basic requirements laid out in the wedding plan agreed prior to the day, we had lots of negative comments from guests post wedding about the reception which isn’t what you want! Unfortunately the points we made here weren’t all of problems we had but the main ones.

    Personally the attitude of staff on the day and after, shows the quality of service they provide and if I could I would have booked anywhere else for our day and will not be returning for any event at the hotel and would recommend anyone looking to book a wedding steers well clear.

    Wedding Reception 20.02.20

    We had our wedding in Lewes on 22/02/2020 and couldn't find anywhere in the town that was of a suitable standard to host the reception. We found the Esat Sussex National by accident as we looked for places outside the area. The wedding was arranged by Sasha who was very helpful from the outset and nothing was too much trouble for her, this was true of all the staff, including Kate and Jane on reception and the events staff too. The food is superbe and we had a free taster meal that confirmed this, all of our guests complimented the quality of the staff and food.
    I would highly recommend this venue for any function you may be thinking of having there.

    Our Fantastic Wedding

    We had an amazing Wedding at the East Sussex National and would highly recommend it to anyone and not just for Weddings! The Wedding Coordinator, Becky, was brilliant at helping us to plan our day right down to the smallest detail and was always very helpful. Everything surpassed our expectations; the attentiveness of staff, quality of the rooms, service, food, drink, and the exceptional venue itself. We were lucky that it was such a glorious day which showed off the venue to it's full potential, we were taken on a 5 minute golf buggy ride down to the lake area which is fabulous for photos. On the day we were looked after by Paul with his team who were first class, with nothing being too much trouble. Even when we had a problem with an external supplier on the day (not one that was recommended by the venue), Paul pulled out all the stops to help us to resolve the issue. Our lesson for anyone getting married is to use the suppliers recommended by the venue. All our family and friends enjoyed it too and everyone commented on what a wonderful venue it was, some even envious that they hadn't found it for their wedding! We were pleased the preferential room rate allowed many of our guests to stay overnight and extend our celebrations over the whole weekend. We're planning to return to the venue to celebrate our first wedding anniversary.

    Our wedding

    Fabulous venue, fabulous rooms, fantastic service all the worry taken from us and dealt with by the very patient Becky and Paul. In fact all the staff were brilliant. We had such a perfect day, many of our guests commented on the venue as the preferential rates allowed so many of our friends and relatives to stay overnight and extend our wedding celebrations. Highly recommended. Thank you to all staff for helping us to enjoy a brilliant wedding day.

    Best day ever!

    Planned our wedding day for a year with the East Sussex National. Our Wedding coordinator always replied to any concerns we had and was and still is extremely helpful! On the day the venue looked amazing!! I can't wait to see the photos that were taken around the golf course. I was so nervous that something would be going wrong, but it didn't, as staff looked after us at all times. Food and drink was really good (had champagne and chocolates in our room too) and no one complained; instead everyone complimented on what a good time they had; it was perfect! Certainly the best day of our lifes! If you are planning a wedding then this venue and staff won't let you down. We highly recommend it! Certainly will return here to celebrate our first anniversary!

    4th june 2016

    We absolutely loved our wedding day at east sussex national :)
    We were very lucky that the weather was kind to us and we were able to have our ceremony outside in the birdcage.
    The staff were really attentive and nothing was too much bother for them.... we had a dedicated wedding co-ordinator who went through every detail with us before the day to make sure everything was booked to our requests. On the day we had Paul running our wedding with the help of Mike and our toastmaster David who were all absolutely brilliant!

    It is an amazing venue with plenty of choice for different size wedding parties. We had a small daytime followed by a big party in the evening so having our meal in the pavilion restaurant and our evening reception in the national suite worked perfectly for us!

    There is absolutely no way we would hesitate to recommend this venue to anybody as our day was just what we wanted and we wouldn't of changed thing!

    What a magical day

    I cannot recommend the staff and venue enough. From start to finish our day was fantastic. We booked 2.5years in advance and they were there every step of the way. The food is fantastic and the service is brilliant. We looked at other venues and thought the national would be out of our price range but were pleasantly surprised when we found out it was within budget so it wasn't a difficult decision to make in the end. They're packages are great, options for where the ceremony takes place and options where to have the wedding breakfast also. All in all a wonderful day had by my wife and I and also our guests.

    Totally Amazing Day

    My son got married at your venue last Saturday. We wanted to say what a fantastic wedding it was. Stephen the wedding planner was totally amazing and everything Richard and Karen wanted he had sorted. He was also very much on the ball on the day to ensure everything was going to plan and on time. The food was second to none for the wedding breakfast. Credit must also go to the restaurant manager who was walking around all the time watching and organising. Also we understand Rachel was out in the kitchens keeping watch so that all the food was ready when needed. The waiting staff were also excellent.

    All in all a wedding to remember thanks to your staff and venue. Nothing was too much trouble.

    Thank you so much for all steven did in the build up and on our special day. The day Happened without a hitch and was really perfect for us. Thank you to all the staff on the day every one was very attentive and the chef was first class, we look forward to holding future anniversaries at the hotel.

    The perfect wedding venue...

    Planning our wedding for nearly two years, we are probably the most fussiest couple you could come across. The East sussex National was Amazing!!! The details, the help, the service, the stunning views and the friendliest staff! We visited a few venues, but none could compete with The ESN and their staff! We wanted everything and more, nothing was too much trouble and every little detail was considered!
    Steven 'the wedding coordinator", has everything in hand and more. From helping us plan our dream day to offering ideas and help! We had every confidence in him to let the day run as smoothly as it could and that is what you need on your wedding day! All the little extras were considered and even helping us with the ideas and planning.We were made to feel at ease and everything was in professional hands.
    The Chef Mark made exactly how and what we wanted, designing our own menu was not an easy task for him, and it was more than we expected! The taste and presentation was amazing.
    Rachel, Hannah and All the other staff were also so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble and they all put themselves out for us! A really personal touch.
    Tamara made the booking of the rooms for our guests easy and hassle free, making sure we had our guests close and in our preferred chosen rooms.
    Overall everyone at The ESN was amazing. They make you feel at ease and are so welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble to any of them.
    A Massive Thank you to you all for giving us our perfect day, you all gave it a personal and professional touch. Thank you. We look forward to spending more time here.
