Winners of the 2024 TWIA 'Best South West Hotel Venue', De Vere Tortworth Court is an enchanting wedding venue located in South Gloucestershire. The Mansion House and stunning Orangery are set against the stunning backdrop of the picturesque Gloucestershire countryside and neighbouring arboretum, with the Victorian decor exuding grandeur and romance, making it the perfect setting for your day.

Facilities and Capacity

Built in 1853, De Vere Tortworth Court boasts a fantastic selection of licensed facilities for you to use for your ceremony, wedding breakfast, and evening reception. The four-star hotel combines classic elegance and contemporary style. You can treat the space as the perfect blank canvas to accommodate any colour scheme and style. The self-contained Westminster Suite has its own dance floor, stage and bar for up to 250 guests to enjoy, and the option for an externally catered wedding is available in this Suite. Originally built in 1874, the glass-panelled Orangery looks gorgeous in the daytime with cascades of natural light. This unique venue can accommodate ceremonies and wedding breakfasts with up to 90 guests and evening parties of 120 guests. In addition to these areas, the estate's gardens can provide wonderful backdrops for your treasured wedding photographs.

Our dream day

We had the best day, Laz and his team that look after you on the day are excellent! I wish we could do it all over again!

Magical Day

The team at Tortworth were very responsive to emails. Once we got into our final year before the wedding we were allocated a person and they were very good at getting back to me prior to the wedding.

Our coordinator went through our plan with us on three occasions in person and in the third meeting, we met our banqueting manager who would be with us on the day.

The banqueting manager and coordinator checked in with us throughout the day and were attentive to us. Waiting staff were not so good with our guests however and we have since received some comments that staff were no willing to answer guests questions or serve them drinks during the wedding breakfast.

We made wedding gift bags to go in guests rooms (who pre-booked through us), the team were helpful in putting these in rooms however two went missing which is obviously very disappointing as a lot of time and money was spent on creating these.

The venue it’s self is beautiful however probably needs updating/ finishing touches touched up where it has become slightly worn out.

Food was all good and we were happy with our menu choices.

Day after, we collected all of our items without a problem. Cakes however were an issue. We had two dietary requirement cupcakes made and they were not brought out during the wedding (even when my husband asked about their location) and were only found when we then asked again the next day. We were given a wedding cake which was not ours, got it home only to realise and it was then swapped and they were apologetic.

We loved our day however it has been a mixed experience which we thought we ought to share.

Really bad customer service, but nice venue

After wedding about 5 people got double charged for their rooms, paid through booking.com and reception also charged. We discussed with reception and our card (paid for wedding) was charged for our room as well!

Customer service with a lady who has now left was terrible, the call to finalise plans was given to us the day before the wedding with 2 hours notice so I couldn’t attend / listen and my partner had to rush it without full attention as sorting out last minute details.

They also kept messing up the invoice/ menu choices and made changes without letting us know.

The day itself went great, Laz was friendly, venue is very nice and the food was very good for wedding / mass catering.

Would probably go through it again but shift any expectations of good customer service downwards so not disappointed.

Would recommend with some advice

Not sure if the rush of weddings after Covid has affected previously good service however I was slightly disappointed with the service considering the hiring prices doubled since first contacting them in 2018.
The original contact in the events team was very hard to deal with, frustrating to get information for everything they offer to be sent to me so I could decide on my budget. Would have loved to have properly sat down with someone to go over our options, was told as we did not want a full day wedding we could not have it over weekend so felt others (paying more money) prioritised over us and the date we wanted.
After new coordinators were taken on the service did improve, very quick to respond to emails if you have as many questions as i did. Still there was very disjointed information coming from a newly employed team.
Before signing make sure the location is right for what you want as they do have restrictions on decorations and some suppliers used would have been handy to know beforehand.
Everyone we dealt with was very friendly, professional and eager to assist with any query. Word of advice if you are getting ready with lots of family at the hotel there is barely phone signal so unless everyone is on an online messenger it's hard to coordinate yourselves. The rooms are also very hard to find everyone was constantly lost, my hairdresser was very lost which delayed our timings.
The rooms held for us our family found it very hard to get through on the phone to book them, constantly engaged, the deal is not much less than the online applause rate anyway. I would suggest everyone stay in the mansion section which seems to be leaps and bounds better than the courtyard rooms.
They had weather contingencies to switch to in case of a turn of weather which make less stressful to know they can be quick to be flexible.
For the meeting the day before I had assumed the day of coordinator Laz had been passed over our order sheet details however this did not seem to be used at all on the day and I would suggest couples to mention everything in the meeting again. We were missing quite a lot of items I had spent months creating, pulling together only for them to be executed incorrectly or be completely missing. Laz was also missing a lot of the time we maybe saw him twice in the day, didn't feel like we were being looked after as such, no check to ensure we were happy and that nothing was wrong we kept sending people off to find him.
If you can afford it employ a professional coordinator and if not ensure you carefully go through everything you expect them to be doing. Also have your suppliers do the decorating as much as possible as they will pay a lot more attention to details.
The service we had was disappointing compared to the rise in cost which makes it more expensive than sites who are dedicated to weddings and you have the whole site to yourself which for me does bring the value for money down.

every aspect of our big day and we'd like to give a special mention to Abbie (our wedding
coordinator) Laz and David, between the three of them, they really made our day run smoother than we

Abbie, Laz and Neil made our day very special. Laz was excellent on the day with dealing with any additional
requirements and was always friendly and approachable. Both Laz and Neil ensured the day went off without
a hitch. Abbie was incredibly thorough in our wedding planning and met every requirement we had. We
have also had numerous guests advise us that they thought the food was outstanding, so would like to also
recognise the kitchen staff. Our wedding at De Vere Tortworth Court was incredible and we have
recommended the hotel to our friends and family. 10/10!

Dream wedding at the dream venue

Tortworth really made sure that we had the absolute perfect day and the whole team were only too happy to help in any way they could. Lorna our wedding planner was so personable and helped deliver our dream wedding exactly as we had envisioned it.

Not only that but the venue looked absolutely stunning and all of our guests were so impressed. Everyone thought we must have spent a fortune to have such a gorgeous, luxurious venue but actually the venue was such good value for money that we managed to stay well within our budget booking Tortworth.

Lovely except Little Miss Thingz stationary

We had a wonderful wedding and all the team on the day made it so wonderful. We had lots of compliments about the venue and food and the team did everything they could on the day to make our day perfect.

I am not the type of person to complain but have decided for the sake of future couples to post this review about the service we received from Little Miss Thingz who is the hotel's wedding stationary provider.

She several times failed to respond to emails, we only had two choices of table plan ( one being a plastic trellis affair-classy!) , she never checked the table plan with us which was a huge shame given the table plan that was provided by her was outrageoulsly poor. Infact throughout our dealings with her we have been concerned by the restricted choice, the very basic designs, constant misspelling and mispronouciation and her failure to reply to our emails.

For our table plan there were different font size used for different names. On one table 5 out of the 8 names were misspelled on this table. She even misspelled my sister’s name – again the correct spelling was provided in my email. Most embarrassingly of all she left off one guest from the table plan altogether although a place name and setting had been laid from him. Again, he had been included in my email to her. It was only because this guest raised this with us on the day which was the reason we looked at the table plan and then noticed all the errors on it. Although we had explained to Little Miss Thingz how we wanted the top table set and this was shown in my email, when my mum had gone to check it Little Miss Thingz had actually set out the placecards so that the groom and I were on the end of the table not in line with the plan. This caused a last minute flurry to put the settings in the correct order.

I just want to repeat that we were happy with the hotel’s service and all our other suppliers. But the service we received from her was really not worth the £250 she charged. We had the to toastmaster and used the recommended florist the Sodbury Florist who were great. However as I have set out the stationary service has been extremely unprofessional and disappointing. I really hope this was a one off and no other couple experience this.

Tortworth Court have not pursued me for the £180 outstanding to Little Miss Thingz as I have raised my concerns with them, but really it is not about the money but the poor service. We frankly would have been better off doing the stationary ourselves. Tortworth say they are addressing it with the service provider, but if it is your wedding be warned and don't find yourselves in my position with stationary which is misspelled and guests missed off!

Amazing service at a beautiful venue

This is just a quick note to you all, and indeed to the staff who were on duty, to say a very big thank you for all your help and understanding, when we had to re-arrange the wedding at very short notice just two weeks before the date due to problems with our other venue.
You were all very sympathetic and on the day helpfull and made everything run very smoothly. Many of our guests said what a beautiful venue it was, how pleasant the staff were and that the marquee had been set up amazingly.
Once again thank you all for making our daughters wedding day so special

We just wanted to write a very big thank you to everyone at Tortworth who helped with our wedding reception on the 27th October 2012. James and I were so impressed by how smoothly everythingran and how perfect the room looked on the day. It was exactly howwe imagined it and more, we could not have asked for anything else, the weather was even on our side!! Tortworth truely is an amazing place and the staff from yourselves to the concierge and receptionists were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much for them. I would recommend Tortworth to anyone who is interested and we look forward to hopefully spending our Anniversary weekend at Tortworth next year!!
