Located in the heart of Salisbury in Wiltshire and steeped in over 800 years of history, The Red Lion Hotel offers a wedding setting unlike anywhere else. As Europe’s oldest purpose-built hotel, this stunning 13th century venue is filled with original character, romantic atmosphere and stories woven into every beam.
Just a five-minute walk from the iconic Salisbury Cathedral, many couples take a quiet stroll to the cathedral for some unforgettable newlywed photographs beside one of England’s most recognisable landmarks.
At the heart of the hotel lies their picturesque courtyard - a hidden gem surrounded by historic architecture, offering you a beautiful space for drinks receptions, relaxed moments with guests and timeless wedding photography.
Facilities and Capacity
The Red Lion Hotel is a licensed wedding venue, giving you the option of holding your ceremony and reception all in one location. Arrive to a red carpet entrance on the day, taking photos and savouring the moment before heading inside.
The hotel can accommodate ceremonies for up to 80 guests, and you have the choice of two beautiful suites. The Vine is a historic suite surrounded by centuries of history and brimming with character, complete with high ceilings and original oak beams.
Alternatively, you can choose the more contemporary-feeling Marlborough Room, set within its own dedicated part of the hotel away from the main hotel bedrooms and holiday guests. With its own private entrance, bar and direct access to our picturesque courtyard, it offers an intimate and exclusive atmosphere for your wedding day.
Your evening reception can also be held in either of these suites, accommodating up to 120 guests.

Your wedding breakfast is created by the venue's talented team of chefs using fresh and locally sourced produce where possible and catering for all dietary requirements. Their menus are just a starting point, if there’s something that you’d like for your wedding breakfast, they can be flexible.
From your first visit to your wedding day, you'll be in the safe hands of their wedding team, who have hosted hundreds of weddings over the years. Their attention to detail ensures your day feels seamless, personal and entirely your own.
Accommodation
Newlyweds can look forward to a complimentary stay on their wedding night, with options to upgrade to a honeymoon suite. Whether it’s the stunning Seamstress Suite, with its cast-iron bathtub in the bedroom, or a historic four-poster suite. You will not be disappointed.
With 60 individually styled bedrooms available at a preferential rate for your guests, exceptional food and centuries of atmosphere that simply cannot be recreated, The Red Lion Hotel offers a wedding experience unlike anywhere else.
Wedding packages start from £3,750 for 50 guests and include room hire, in-house catering and a dedicated wedding coordinator.

Beautiful venue
The Best Venue with the Best Team
Chloe who met with us to view the venue was so helpful and answered all our questions and was so quick to respond to anything else we thought of during the booking process and handover to the onsite co-ordinator Radina.
The value for money you get with the packages is amazing, and many people we spoke to were surprised but how much you get for the money!
After booking we attending 2 further open days to see the venue again and also speak to suppliers they recommend and help us plan our ideas. Everyone we came in to contact with was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
We were then handed over to Radina who co-ordinated all the planning and on the day co-ordinator and she is fantastic. She was professional but she was also kind, supportive and just as excited to see the day come together, We decided to mix the traditional with the untraditional and were happy to support anything we wanted to add to our day - including live tattooists for the guests and us! Radina is a superstar and i cannot imagine that this would have gone so perfectly without her. So thank you Radina!
On the day Radina kept everyone on schedule and kept my bridesmaids and the best men informed to ensure everything went off without a hitch. The whole team at the red lion were amazing and we could not fault them at all! Several members of our families commented on how well organised it was and how lovely all of the staff were.
The food was lovely, and the catering team and head chef were amazing in going through details for the food to make sure it was right for us. We had a complicated allergens/dietary requirements list and they executed it all beautifully without any issues.
The venue is stunning and the history is amazing, with many guests going for a wander to take photos of all the historical aspects.
Last but definetly not least we have to say a massive thank you to the bar staff - especially Lucas, Steven and Rhys who were fantastic at keeping everyone in alcohol and providing everyone with humour! You guys truly deserve this shout out!

Beautiful venue and amazing staff
The room was turned around for the evening, we had a disco and buffet, we over run slightly and asked for the buffet to be stalled a bit, the staff were brilliant and did all they could for us to ensure we were happy and things all run as it should have.
Angel was on duty earlier in the day, she was lovely, nothing was too much trouble and she ensured the table decorations were put out and the doughnut wall topped up. She went over and above - she was especially patient with me as I was super nervous trying to get ready to go meet the registrars.
We stayed in the Seamstress Room, I have never stayed in such an amazingly beautiful room. We want to book in again to stay for our anniversary.
I want to mention how professional and attentive Radina was prior to the wedding ensuring we had every tiny detail recorded as we wanted it, Radina even popped in on her day off to see us and make sure all was running as we wanted it.
Fantastic team and lovely people.
Thank you for the best day, it was better than we imagined. Our guests also said how relaxed and lovely the day, staff and surroundings were. Thank you so much.
