Wakehurst Place

Located in West Sussex, Wakehurst Place is a beautiful 180 acre country estate and conservation area managed by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

Within its magnificent grounds is the stunning, Elizabethan Mansion, which is an ideal venue for stylish wedding ceremonies and receptions. The light and airy Gallery and opulent, wood-panelled Dining Room are licensed for both Marriages and Civil Partnerships. The rooms, each with a capacity of 60 for dining, open onto a formal lawn overlooking the Mansion Lake, which presents an outstanding opportunity for both romantic and group photographs. The lawns can be used for drinks receptions on arrival or between ceremony and wedding breakfast, and the venue is licensed for both music and dancing.

All profits from our weddings help raise funds for vital national and international plant conservation programmes, to help prevent climate change and preserve life on earth for future generations.

      Beautiful place for a wedding
We had a really lovely wedding at Wakehurst Place. The house and gardens are stunning, the food was very good and the service excellent. We particularly appreciated the way the organisers took care of everything and allowed us to relax and enjoy our day. Everything was so perfect that we did not even notice the bad weather, and had a beatiful drinks reception in the hall and library. We would thoroughly recommend Wakehurst Place for a wedding. Thank you Katie and Caroline.

Wakehurst’s Place Elizabethan Mansion came to life
Our daughter Ceri married Andrew Morgan at Wakehurst Place on 17th April. A day that turned out to be a beautiful sunny spring day with a clear blue sky – no vapour trails! Our guests commented on the fabulous location, the catering and the fantastic service provided by the staff. We were challenged by the Icelandic volcano preventing some guests from travelling on time. This resulted in last minute removal of some place settings, only for two to be restored very soon afterwards, with the surprise arrival of close relatives from New Zealand! All this was managed very quietly and efficiently by the Wakehurst team. The mansion house really comes alive when it is set out for wedding celebrations and the Wakehurst team helped us party until very late that evening. It was a fabulous day.

We had searched the internet to find the perfect venue for our special day and although we only wanted a small wedding, the venue still had to be special. We hit the nail on the head when we came upon Wakehurst Place. Normally planning a wedding can be stressful but Katie Ratcliffe, the Wedding Coordinator made our day run like clockwork. The food and all the table attire was coordinated by Caroline Gorman from Company of Cooks who are the on-site caterers. Our guests all commented on how beautiful the rooms looked and especially how delicious the food was. Our day was topped off by having a harpist, Anna, from Prelude Entertainment, playing our choice of background music throughout the service, drinks reception and wedding breakfast….it was just perfect! We could not fault our day and even the sun came out for us to have our photographs taken around the grounds. Wakehurst Place is the sister site to Kew Gardens, and as you would expect, the grounds are magnificent. One thing that dampened our day was that my new husband had been taken ill the week of the wedding. It was touch and go whether he would actually make day but both Katie and Caroline were very understanding and even suggested that, under the circumstances, we could rearrange the day at very short notice should it be necessary. Thankfully, we didn’t have to take up their offer but just knowing that they would be so accommodating was a huge weight off our minds and we can’t thank them enough for that. We can honestly say, without any question or hesitation, Wakehurst Place, for us, was the perfect setting to get married and we would whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone.

      Our perfect wedding at Wakehurst
As soon as we visited Wakehurst we knew it was the perfect setting for our wedding. Once we had booked it the organisers were incredibly helpful in getting everything together, including some very last-minute changes to the guest-list! We wanted to do a few things ourselves, and Wakehurst were very accommodating about this where other venues would not have been. The food and drink were both excellent, receiving a lot of praise from our guests. Wakehurst may look grand (it looks great in our wedding pictures!), but we felt the day was very relaxed and intimate, which was exactly what we wanted. Thank you very much for a perfect day.

      Fantastic Venue
We got married in June in the gorgeous setting of Wakehurst Place. From the moment we first visited Wakehurst we knew this was the place we wanted to get married. The staff were extremly helpful during the planning and were amazing on the day. The food and service was also second to none. All our guests have commented on how beautiful Wakehurst was and what a great time they had. Without a doubt we would recommend Wakehurst Place to any couple looking for the perfect venue.

Friday night was best....we felt like Royalty, with our hampers and our very fetching plastic macs..and the music was so awesome that we couldn't sit down....dancing, dancing, dancing girls. Thank you for making us feel all special (not that we are not special you understand - well special in some ways at least....actually in many ways) Phew, that was a BALL!

Wakehurst Place is not only one of the most beautiful and fairytale settings you could wish for, but the staff are fantastic as well. They made the arrangements stress free, offered guidance and help throughout and were always available to assist. Then on the day they were available but subtle and the food was fantastic! You really could not want for any more before or on your special day! We would highly recommend Wakehurst Place as venue to anyone and everyone.
