Upwaltham Barns is nestled amongst the rolling hills of the South Downs National Park, one of the prettiest barn wedding venues in West Sussex. Lovingly restored, this family-owned venue exudes warmth and friendliness. The atmosphere is wonderfully welcoming and relaxed, providing a secluded country idyll that is exclusively yours on your day.
Facilities and Capacity
Upwaltham Barns is full of charm and character, offering rustic elegance for your wedding celebrations. The pretty beamed Jasmine Cottage is yours to hire for the day and night of your wedding. Freshen up on arrival or throughout the day, and, of course, spend your first night together as a married couple. The light-filled East Barn has floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the South Downs to one side and the courtyard to the other. It's wooden beams and neutral colour tones are the ideal backdrop to say ‘I do’. Following your romantic ceremony, your guests move out into the flower-filled courtyard to mingle and enjoy a few drinks and canapes. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, with our garden Moroccan style snug and contemporary copper-topped tables in the Stable Bar.
The spacious South Barn is the ideal setting for your reception. The wooden beams, flint stone walls and neutral colour scheme will complement any of your decorations perfectly. The barn has a warm and inviting atmosphere, whatever the season, with underfloor heating, candlelit wrought iron candelabras, seated dining for up to 150 guests and plenty of space for evening entertainment. From formal wedding breakfasts to informal barbeques, the South Barn provides the perfect backdrop for treasured memories.

One of my favourite venues!
I would not hesitate to recommend Upwaltham Barns to anyone looking for a wedding or event venue!
Incredible wedding venue all year round!
The food is so good, especially those summer BBQ's. And just as importantly, the team are brilliant - so friendly, hard-working and lovely to work alongside. The level of care they give their couples is amazing, and they’re always incredibly welcoming and thoughtful towards suppliers too.. Really can't wait to be back at Upwaltham Barns again 🙂
Photographers review of Upwaltham Barns
One of my favorite features has to be the wildflower meadow, it offers such stunning views of the South Downs and makes the perfect spot for golden hour portraits and it's also really close to the venue.
The family-run atmosphere is also a huge draw, whether you’re a guest or a supplier, you’re made to feel like part of the family. The organization is second to none and weddings here always run completely seamlessly. I wholeheartedly recommend Upwaltham Barns for a beautiful, effortless, and heartfelt wedding day.
Amazing experience, unique and friendly
This venue and their staff have the ability of making you feel like you are the only wedding they are ever doing!
We honestly couldnt put into words how good the day was, and the food, and the staff .
The venue: is beautiful, the surroundings are lovely, and the two barns are gorgeous, the courtyard is the perfect place for drinks reception.
There are enough places for guests to go to during the day that the whole day felt interesting and exciting. There is also an amazing moroccan snug area which our guests loved. The ceremony barn is beautiful and bright and warm!! The whole venue is so lovely and warm- this was important to us as our wedding was in March.
The staff : Were all professional, friendly, smart and helpful. There is an on the day coordinator and a pre-wedding coordinator both of which were fantastic, no ask to big or small, Abbie helped us in the lead up and was so organised and thorough. Then on the day we had Ann who was wonderful and made sure we didnt miss out on anything !
Food: the food was fantastic! and there was so much of it!! All of it was delicious, they did an amazing job. We made our own personalised starter which the kitchen designed from a recipe I sent them with a special haggis and then we had roast chicken which came with all the trimmings, and was delicious.
The jasmine cottage is also beautiful and has everything you could need for a nights stay.
10/10 A*** We wish we could do it all again.
If you are looking for a barn wedding in Sussex which is elegant, beautiful and has the added benefit of a family feel you definitely have to visit this venue! xx
A gorgeous day!
From start to finish, our wedding day was just perfect, everything ran so smoothly and we just had the best day ever!
From our first tour to the big day, everyone was so organised, efficient and helpful with our wedding planning.
The venue is just truly beautiful, all of our guests commented on how amazing it is and lots were saying it’s the best wedding venue they’ve been to! We were lucky to get married on a sunny, autumnal day but Upwaltham would be gorgeous even on a rainy day!
The staff were all so helpful on the day and attentive, ensuring all of our guests were happy, leaving us to enjoy our day stress free!
The food was a hit with our guests, it was delicious!
Staying in the Jasmine Cottage was really lovely, it’s so beautiful!
Nicola has always been onsite when we have visited and is always so warm and welcoming.
Thank you again for everything, we really had the best day!

Incredible
A big thank you to the entire team for all their hard work throughout the last 2 years preparing for our wedding. They were always on hand to answer any questions we had. The morning of our wedding everything was set up with such precision and attention to details. There was always someone to assist whenever we needed anything.
The food and bespoke cocktails were absolutely incredible. We had so many compliments from everyone. They catered to all our guests special requirements and allergies which wasn’t an easy job!
If we could do the whole wedding again we would 100% do it at Upwaltham Barns!
Just perfect.
We fell in love with the venue as soon as we saw it but the real selling point with Upwaltham is the amazing staff. Chelsie and Late really took care of us. This team genuinely care and the whole process from start to end was professional and efficient. The front of house team, the managers, the owners and the catering staff … everyone was just amazing. We wish we could do it all again. Thank you thank you Upwaltham for providing us with memories that will last a lifetime. 💖
The perfect venue
But what makes Upwaltham Barns so special are the amazing staff. You really do feel like one of the family at Upwaltham, everyone was so friendly and genuinely invested in ensuring we had the perfect day. Andrea (Nibbles2Nosh) was just fantastic. We had several meetings with Andrea where we ran through the plan for the day, asked any questions we had (and we had a lot!) and discussed the many options available to us for the day. We never had any doubt in Andrea’s ability to ensure the day ran smoothly and that no details were left out. She really did make us feel comfortable, which meant we could enjoy the day without having to worry about anything. Stephen at the Stable Bar made sure the drinks were flowing, and really helped us select the perfect drinks for the wedding breakfast. Also a special mention to Alex, who was super helpful on the day. In fact all of the staff were excellent.
The food (provided by Nibbles2Nosh) was wonderful. We’d had a preview of the food at an event hosted by Upwaltham for all of the upcoming brides/grooms (a lovely touch), which really helped us to narrow down our choices. The kebabs in the evening were superb, and went down extremely well with the guests. The ice-cream bicycle was also a highlight. The bar has an excellent drinks selection, and that’s before looking at any of the optional extras.
Overall, we cant fault Upwaltham Barns. We really did have the perfect day, and it was made even more special by being at such a beautiful and welcoming venue. We cannot thank you enough!

Upwaltham Barns is opening its doors on Saturday, 7th February for a relaxed and welcoming Open Day, giving you the chance to explore their lovingly restored, family-owned barns and experience the warmth, charm and countryside magic they’re known for.
You’ll enjoy a personal 1:1 visit, where you can wander through the barns at your own pace and take in the beautiful South Downs views. One of our lovely venue team will be with you throughout, ready to answer your questions and help you picture how your celebration could unfold at Upwaltham.
The barns will be beautifully dressed, and the catering and bar teams will be around for a friendly chat. You’re welcome to enjoy sweet treats, teas and coffees as you explore, and the bar will be open too. A handful of lovely wedding suppliers will also be joining for the day, offering inspiration and ideas.
