Upwaltham Barns is nestled amongst the rolling hills of the South Downs National Park, one of the prettiest barn wedding venues in West Sussex. Lovingly restored, this family-owned venue exudes warmth and friendliness. The atmosphere is wonderfully welcoming and relaxed, providing a secluded country idyll that is exclusively yours on your day.
Facilities and Capacity
Upwaltham Barns is full of charm and character, offering rustic elegance for your wedding celebrations. Begin your day in the calming Orchard Room, a dedicated preparation space that feels both practical and indulgent in equal measure. When preparations are complete, the light-filled East Barn with its floor-to-ceiling windows, wooden beams and and views of the South Downs welcomes you as the ideal backdrop to say ‘I do’. Following your romantic ceremony, your guests move out into the flower-filled courtyard to mingle and enjoy drinks and canapes. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, with the Moroccan style snug and contemporary copper-topped tables in the Stable Bar.
The spacious South Barn is the perfect setting for your wedding reception. The wooden beams, flint stone walls and neutral colour scheme will complement any of your decorations perfectly. The barn has a warm and inviting atmosphere, whatever the season, with underfloor heating, candlelit wrought iron candelabras, seated dining for up to 150 guests and plenty of space for evening entertainment. From formal wedding breakfasts to informal barbeques, the South Barn provides the perfect backdrop for treasured memories.
As your celebrations come to an end, the pretty beamed Jasmine Cottage is yours to hire for the night of your wedding and spend your first night together as a married couple.

Gorgeous wedding venue with absolutely amazing people behind it!
Our February wedding was cosy, comfortable, and classy at this beautiful venue. From our very first viewing through to our wedding day, all the staff were very professional, friendly, and diligent in making sure we had a great experience. We were so well looked after on our wedding day - my husband and I had an amazing time. Upwaltham Barns has a nice layout of spaces that our guests never felt confined at any point in the day and got to fully enjoy the beauty it had to offer. The food was great and all dietary needs were easily taken care of. Our guests had nothing but lovely compliments of their experience and we felt the same. There is something very special about this place and the people here that create a story-book wedding feeling. We could not have asked for a more perfect place to get married, thank you so much! - Ryan & Samantha

March 2026 wedding
The venue is stunning and the team that run upwaltham barns are incredible. One of the things my Husband I loved sbout this venue, even stripped down to its natural beauty, you dont need lots of venue dressing, unless you really wanted it, we opted for very minimal dressing. From the first viewing, we just fell in love. We asked for a few bespoke menu changes ( including an off the menu dessert) and the team were incredibly accommodating, even setting aside any leftovers for us in the Jasmine cottage to enjoy after the party finished 😍 the whole day ran so smoothly, I cannot thank everyone enough. As a OCD planner myself, i was worried about timings but the team made it so effortless for me to just go with the flow as they handled everything. Special shout to Charis, for answering all my worries so quickly and kindly( there were a few 🤣)
All our guests complimented us in the venue and in the incredible food and atmosphere.
They also cater for children so well, the goodie bags at the canapés and drinks reception went down very well.
We also hired the tipsy truck and again, our guests loved this!
I had the privilege of being the first bride to use the new prep room and had a nice relaxing morning getting ready with my bridal party. It was great to be onsite, getting ready. It definitely made me feel more relaxed in the build up than I feel I would have been getting ready elsewhere and moving to the venue part-ready!
Nicola/Charis and thier teams made us feel part of the venue, their service felt truly unique to us and for that we are eternally grateful.
All our guests complimented us in the venue and in the incredible food and atmosphere.

An Amazing Day
We got married at Upwaltham Barns on 2nd May. What a fabulous day.
We fell in love with the venue when we went to view and from that moment there was no point looking at any other venues.
Right from the start we were made to feel special and encouraged to book our day in a way that matched us as a couple. This ensured that we felt like individuals and made our day unique.
All our guests have commented on how beautiful the venue was and how fantastic the food was.
Charis was assigned as our wedding coordinator. She was very flexible, professional and maintained a good level of communication. It felt as though nothing was too much trouble
All members of staff that we spoke to were friendly and helpful. We had a fabulous day and would definitely recommend Upwaltham Barns - you won't regret it;!

One of my favourite venues!
I’ve had the pleasure of working with Upwaltham Barn often over the last few years and am always so impressed at the level of care and professionalism of the staff and the beauty of the venue! The team really take the couples’ special day to their hearts and nothing is too much trouble. As a supplier, I am always so well looked after, which also says so much about the teams attitude to everyone in their care, not just the customers and their guests!
I would not hesitate to recommend Upwaltham Barns to anyone looking for a wedding or event venue!

Incredible wedding venue all year round!
As a wedding photographer I always love working at Upwaltham Barns. It always looks incredible in every season throughout the year. The grounds are beautiful, the flowers are always stunning and there’s no shortage of great backdrops.
The food is so good, especially those summer BBQ's. And just as importantly, the team are brilliant - so friendly, hard-working and lovely to work alongside. The level of care they give their couples is amazing, and they’re always incredibly welcoming and thoughtful towards suppliers too.. Really can't wait to be back at Upwaltham Barns again 🙂

Photographers review of Upwaltham Barns
I absolutely love working at Upwaltham Barns! As a wedding photographer, it’s such a joy to work at a venue that's not only completely stunning with cottage garden vibes but also logistically brilliant. Everything is within easy reach, group photo spots are nearby so guests don’t have to wander far, and couples can get a huge variety of portraits without having to disappear for hours. The outdoor ceremony space is also a gorgeous, alternative for the 'I dos.' surrounded by hills & countryside.
One of my favorite features has to be the wildflower meadow, it offers such stunning views of the South Downs and makes the perfect spot for golden hour portraits and it's also really close to the venue.
The family-run atmosphere is also a huge draw, whether you’re a guest or a supplier, you’re made to feel like part of the family. The organization is second to none and weddings here always run completely seamlessly. I wholeheartedly recommend Upwaltham Barns for a beautiful, effortless, and heartfelt wedding day.

Amazing experience, unique and friendly
We recently had our wedding at Upwaltham and we couldn't recommend it enough. Thank you Nicola and her family.
This venue and their staff have the ability of making you feel like you are the only wedding they are ever doing!
We honestly couldnt put into words how good the day was, and the food, and the staff .
The venue: is beautiful, the surroundings are lovely, and the two barns are gorgeous, the courtyard is the perfect place for drinks reception.
There are enough places for guests to go to during the day that the whole day felt interesting and exciting. There is also an amazing moroccan snug area which our guests loved. The ceremony barn is beautiful and bright and warm!! The whole venue is so lovely and warm- this was important to us as our wedding was in March.
The staff : Were all professional, friendly, smart and helpful. There is an on the day coordinator and a pre-wedding coordinator both of which were fantastic, no ask to big or small, Abbie helped us in the lead up and was so organised and thorough. Then on the day we had Ann who was wonderful and made sure we didnt miss out on anything !
Food: the food was fantastic! and there was so much of it!! All of it was delicious, they did an amazing job. We made our own personalised starter which the kitchen designed from a recipe I sent them with a special haggis and then we had roast chicken which came with all the trimmings, and was delicious.
The jasmine cottage is also beautiful and has everything you could need for a nights stay.
10/10 A*** We wish we could do it all again.
If you are looking for a barn wedding in Sussex which is elegant, beautiful and has the added benefit of a family feel you definitely have to visit this venue! xx

The venue is just truly beautiful, all of our guests commented on how amazing it is and lots were saying it’s the best wedding venue they’ve been to! We were lucky to get married on a sunny, autumnal day but Upwaltham would be gorgeous even on a rainy day!
The staff were all so helpful on the day and attentive, ensuring all of our guests were happy, leaving us to enjoy our day stress free!
The food was a hit with our guests, it was delicious!

July wedding
We got married at Upwaltham in July and it could not have been more perfect. From the moment we first went there we knew it was the perfect venue for us, everyone made us feel so welcome and it has a real family feel. The whole process of organising the wedding and the day itself was very smooth and stress free. We have had so many compliments about the food and the venue and cannot thank you enough! If we could do it all again we would!

Absolutely beautiful venue! Everyone had the most amazing day. Upwaltham is ideally nestled in the South Downs and made for a really beautiful backdrop for our photos and videos.
A big thank you to the entire team for all their hard work throughout the last 2 years preparing for our wedding. They were always on hand to answer any questions we had. The morning of our wedding everything was set up with such precision and attention to details. There was always someone to assist whenever we needed anything.
The food and bespoke cocktails were absolutely incredible. We had so many compliments from everyone. They catered to all our guests special requirements and allergies which wasn’t an easy job!
If we could do the whole wedding again we would 100% do it at Upwaltham Barns!
