About The Historic Dockyard Chatham

Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust, The Sail & Colour Loft
The Historic Dockyard, Chatham
Kent, ME4 4TW

At The Historic Dockyard Chatham you are not just “hiring a venue”, you are buying into a complete and unforgettable experience set within a place that is quite simply like no other.

Sitting at the heart of this wonderful place is Commissioner’s House (1704), the most intact naval building from the age of sail and a truly stunning location.  All weddings are bespoke, from an intimate wedding in one of the private dining rooms, to a wedding breakfast for 120 people in the garden marquee.  Some choose the House’s garden bar room to host their wedding cocktail hour or the romantic 17thcentury terraced gardens as the backdrop for their wedding photos capturing their perfect day.

But we’re not just about a beautiful Georgian house, we offer so much more - with wedding ceremonies on the magnificent Victorian 3-masted sloop HMS Gannet (1878) to evening parties held in  our brand new ‘Commands of the Oceans Mess Deck’.  We offer experiences that no other venue can match.

The special touches we provide with each wedding means no two are the same.  Immaculate detail and pure care come across as you and your partner venture into the future.

Firstly we had a fantastic day; we could not have asked for it to be any better. The bridal room and facilities were exceptional , the ceremony on HMS Gannet was faultless , and the evening reception was superb , everything went to plan . Most important was Sammie she was superb , from the time we got there until late in the evening nothing was too much trouble for her , she asked us every hour if everything was Ok and did we need anything , she was so supportive to Sarah the whole day , she was so well organised.

A Truly Magical Day!

We thoroughly enjoyed our wedding at the Historic Dockyard Chatham. The staff were friendly and accommodating and made the whole process as stress-free as planning a wedding can be. Our guests loved the unique setting for the ceremony on board HMS Gannet, and the house and gardens at Commissioners House made the perfect environment for everyone during the wedding breakfast and evening reception. It was a truly magical day

Could Not Ask for More!
Venue Service

By Becky & Steve England, on 19 Dec 2017Date of Wedding - 04 Jun 2016

Our experience of booking our wedding reception at the Dockyard was positive and straightforward from start to finish. The information pack was full of relevant information, and during a planning meeting every detail was covered. During the build up to the wedding it was so nice to be in safe and experienced hands. On the day we couldn’t have asked for a better level of support, just the right balance of being there for us but not intrusive. All of our guests had a great time, and having the garden so close to the marquee gave children a safe place to play. Being able to use Commissioners House and other areas of the Dockyard for photographs allowed some wonderful photos!
