Bury Manor Barn is one of the finest wedding venues in Sussex.
A stunning Tudor barn, set in the picturesque rural village of Bury, near Pulborough in the heart of the South Downs National Park. The barn and its idyllic surroundings are in the grounds of Dorset House School – one of the oldest prep schools in the country.
Steeped in history, records of the Manor date back to the Domesday Book. Bury Manor has had many incarnations – from a monastic building in the 12thcentury to a traditional manor house and a popular Edwardian House party retreat from London. This is an incredibly individual and special venue.
For guests staying overnight in the area, there is an excellent variety of accommodation – from a luxury castle hotel to quirky Airbnbs or trendy campsites, you will find something to suit everyone.
Bury Manor Barn is easily accessible by road and is on a quiet lane just off the A29. The closest railway station is Amberley but Pulborough offers a more frequent service. From here it is 1 hour 15 minutes to London Victoria and 40 minutes to Gatwick Airport. The coast can be reached in just 15 minutes.
Our 16thCentury barn is divided into two distinct areas by a pretty glazed wall; the outer barn, ideal for wedding breakfasts, and the inner barn for ceremonies with stunning views across the Wildbrooks and River Arun to Amberley Castle and the South Downs beyond.
Bury Manor Barn is a venue for all seasons.
Spring Weddings: Two perfect magnolia trees frame the entrance to Bury Manor Barn and the grounds look perfect in the spring sunshine. The log fire in the inner barn is of course available if the weather is chilly.
Summer Weddings: In the warmer months Humanist ceremonies can take place in our wonderful amphitheatre, where guests can take a seat in the sun with the river Arun, Amberley Castle and the South Downs before them. The huge door on the side of the barn looks south towards the pond with further expansive views.
Autumn Weddings: are always spectacular with changing colour of the many trees which are a feature of this site. The barn looks lovely dressed in seasonal tones at this time of year.
Winter Weddings: With twinkling fairy lights and the roaring log fire, Bury Manor Barn is the perfect spot for a cosy winter wedding.
One of the outstanding features of this venue is the fact that you can choose which ceremony you prefer. Choose from a church weddings at St John the Evangelist, a civil ceremony, a humanist or other celebrant led ceremonies.
In addition to its stunning riverside setting, the Bury Manor Barn site includes several distinct areas including:

The prettiest wedding venue in Sussex
You'll be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful wedding location in the south of England - especially on a warm and sunny August day. The Dorset House team were exceptionally accommodating and attentive from the moment we made contact - even answering our texts and emails at 10pm on a Saturday night.
The photos of the venue speak for themselves: this is an idyllic, picturesque location with lots of space that’s far away from busier rural areas, so it not only feels safe and secluded, but you feel like you have access to the entire venue. It was also very good and safe for young kids and dogs.
We got married in the adjacent church, and there’s a walkway round the back which allows direct access for guests, which was very helpful for older guests who couldn’t walk far. We also made use of the pub in Bury for those final celebratory drinks before getting hitched.
The two large rooms at Dorset House allow for space for meals and partying, without having to put tables and chairs away throughout the day. There are also many photos opportunities across the grounds, almost all of which was open on the day, and we also made use of the bank next to the river, for the bride-groom shots.
We’d thoroughly recommend Dorset House to anyone looking to create a personalised, special, and unforgettable day. The service was impeccable and the Dorset House team were always welcoming and in constant communicable contact, which made those final few days leading up to the wedding that much easier. Thank you for the memories.Sent on 01/03/2021

We had our wedding here in August 2020 with 30 guests. They were incredibly helpful and flexible, considering the changing covid restrictions at that time. We had a marquee which we hired from TentsnEvents who we highly recommend. The views from the marquee and garden space at Bury Manor Barn was outstanding. Throughout the day we had a point of contact for if needed but otherwise had privacy to spend the day with close family and friends. We would highly recommend Bury Manor Barn as a calm and beautiful wedding venue which we couldn’t fault!Sent on 03/03/2021
