Are Barn Weddings Cheaper?

Not necessarily - just because a barn wedding has a rustic vintage-feel, doesn’t mean it costs less money than a traditional reception! Many barns offer a blank canvas that you can decorate to match your style, however, those decorations can start to add up. Others might need to supply items such as tables, chairs, as well as culinary items like cutlery and plates.

Does A Barn Venue Have To Be Licensed For A Wedding?

If you want to host your ceremony at a barn, the venues would require a ceremony licence. Most venues do hold civil ceremony licences these days, but don’t worry if your chosen venue doesn't. There are plenty of alternative options in the city, including the incredible Bristol Cathedral. Dating back to 1140 AD, when it was originally constructed as an Augustinian the cathedral is one of Britain’s most beautiful medieval churches, featuring stained glass windows and soaring vaulted ceilings.

The Old Down team made our wedding experience perfect from start to finish. Charlotte and her team were so super helpful and supportive giving us all the clarity we needed on the day and in the run upto to it. The food was fantastic and all the wonderful little details Old Down put in really helped make our day all we dreamed it would be! Would highly recommend Old Down to any couple looking for a bright, magical and personal venue!

The venue were amazing from start to finish, they were willing to let us have multiple viewings and were happy to answer all of our questions. We had a large number of guests staying over friday night and several of them commented on how nice the rooms were. The staff were present and very helpful with any issues that cropped up. We had catered food on the friday night which was delicious and very plentiful. We got married on the Saturday and the satff were great then too, very helpful with the organisation and flow of the day. Extra big thanks to Matt and Jason!

We just had our wedding over the weekend and wanted to leave a review to thank the whole team at The Barn at Old Down Estate for such a wonderful day. Our wedding coordinators Zoe and Joey were fantastic right from the start to ensure everything went smoothly and to our needs. The venue and grounds are stunning, food was great, and the staff all friendly and super professional. We couldn't have asked for a better day.
