Speech by Hilary

Reading other speeches on this website helped me figure out what I wanted to focus on in my maid of honor speech. I thought if my speech could help another, that would be great. :)

Speech Type: Maid of honour/Best woman

Hi Everyone! I'm Hilary, Charlotte's sister. First I would like to thank a few people for their help in making today wonderful: our parents, Lou and Claudia, James mom, Vivan, James sister, Jennifer, the other bridesmaids: Tori, Jessica, and Danelle, and the groomsmen: Daniel, Deston, Jeff, and Clay. You have all played such a big part in making today spectacular for Charlotte and James. Thank you! And to all of you, the dear friends and family who showed up today to help celebrate the start of this new marriage, thank you for being here! Your presence has made the day extra sweet and special.

Having a sister is one of the greatest things I've been able to experience in life. I tried to find some key memories that I could share to show why I love my sister but I found out that there are no key memories. It's actually the sum of all the experiences Charlotte and I have shared, from the daily little things to the life changing events, which have created the deep, multi layered love that I feel for her. However, I can say there are several traits that pop up regularly in my childhood memories that are “Charlotte” traits or traits she has always had that I really like. Here are a few of them: Her humour which can sometimes catch me pleasantly off guard in its insight. Her silliness: With just a look, we can dissolve into an intense laughing fit, like tears running down your face, slide splitting, “I can't breathe” laughing fit. It's pretty great! And I really love her sensitivity which allows for her to be poetic, very caring and exceptionally thoughtful. More recently, I've seen her develop other traits as she has grown and matured into a woman that I really admire. These traits include her perseverance which helped her to get through college and her ability to stand up for herself, which I find very valuable. I am honoured to be standing here, by her side, on her wedding day.

And now on to groom. My first impression of James was tall, quiet, and wholesome, all good things. As I got to know him better, thru family dinners and hanging out, I've found he's a bit more complex, of course, and he has several admirable traits himself. Here are a few of them. He is logical and he has a cool head. I think this means he will be a good steady person to be by Charlotte's side through life's ups and downs. He is awesome because he is pursuing his dream of becoming a law enforcement agent and anyone who follows their dreams is awesome. And he is a dedicated prankster and this playful side complements Charlotte's silliness very well. But the best part is, it's obvious he cares for Charlotte and she's crazy which is the greatest thing I could ask for.

As for wishes for the newlyweds, there are so many things that I wish for you two. But I think a simple wish that covers the most important things will be best. So here it is: May your life together be filled with love, laughter, friendship and adventure.  To Charlotte and James!!
