The Flying Fish Barn is a delightful venue surrounded by beautiful countryside near Ilminster. Your hosts, husband and wife Buddy and Kate, together with Wedding Co-ordinator, Julie, are experienced event planners who will guide you through the process of organising your dream Wedding Day. Relaxed, informal Weddings are their speciality. It's your day, your way.
Facilities and Capacity
The Flying Fish Barn is licensed for wedding ceremonies and can accommodate up to 100 guests for your seated Wedding Breakfast. Once the meal has ended, evening guests are welcome to arrive, bringing the guest list up to 200 people. Furnished with farmhouse-style wooden tables and beautiful limewashed Chiavari chairs, the barn is the perfect spot for an elegant evening of celebrations. Guests will fall in love with the canopy of twinkling lights and enchanting ambience as they witness this next chapter of your love story. The barn is fully kitted out with a private bar, PA system, entertainment stage, mood lighting, and restrooms, ensuring a comfortable experience for all. Outside, a spacious garden overlooks fields and provides the perfect backdrop for your photographs. In addition, The Flying Fish Stables onsite accommodation offers 8 ensuite luxury lodgings for the wedding party. There is also a charming country inn, The Flying Fish, onsite, ideal for day before or after gatherings and boasts a wonderful conservatory with breathtaking views of the countryside.

The perfect wedding venue 🤍
We visited the wedding barn 2 years before our wedding. We were blown away with the beauty that Julie had created, she was very welcoming and from that day we knew it would be the perfect wedding venue for us.
Julie kept us updated and answered all of our questions within the lead up.
The night before Julie was very accommodating and was able to help whether possible to make sure all our finishing touches were perfect.
The day was MAGICAL, full of love and laughter. The food, staff and hospitality were exceptional. Buddy was a fantastic cook and his food was rated highly by all our guests, he was extremely accommodating towards any dietary needs.
Julie and the boys throughout the day were incredible, making sure everything ran smoothly and that all our additional requested were met.
The morning after our wedding we shared a breakfast with our close ones, Kate was friendly and welcoming and continued to make us feel special. Kate even on the day all of your little touches never went unseen.
The day was truly the best, the memories will last a lifetime and we wouldn’t have wanted to have celebrated anywhere else.
Thank you all so much to each and everyone of you for all your hard work on making our day unforgettable.

Winter Wedding
Honestly what a wonderful venue, myself and my now husband visited the flying fish while we where living in somerset and knew straight away we wanted to get married there. We ended up moving up North but the communtcation from Julie to arrange everything was amazing, my father had cancer and Julie was extremely understanding with everything with delays and sorted everything out for us to make sure we had the best day. We ended up doing the legal bit early due to my dad's declining health but still wanted a ceremony on the day we had booked, a friend was ment to do the cermony but pulled out last minute but Julie stepped in and honestly was amazing and so understanding and stood up to do our cermony as most of our guests didnt know we had to do the legal bit early. But about the day we stayed the night before and the staff and Julie where amazing, we had arranged for my dad's food to be easier to eat due to added throat cancer the staff had no issue helping us with this request. The day went smoothly even though it was very windy and tad wet, Julie did amazing doing our cermony and the quick turn around for the meal which is 5 star 🌟 great flavours. Another turn around for the dance floor and it was all great decorated brillant with proper barn vibes. We couldn't of asked for a better day with relaxed vibes and nothing to worry about. I would 100% reccomend The Flying Fish, Julie and there wonderful staff to anyone.

Great day from start to finish
From the moment we booked our wedding it was nothing but smooth sailing. All the staff made us feel welcome and we were looked after from start to finish. Nothing was to much trouble. Venue was so beautiful with amazing views. Food was amazing and the turn around of the barn through out the day was so smooth. Accommodation was also amazing. Very clean and spacious and our friends and family had nothing but lovely things to say.

Our wedding day
We had an amazing wedding day at the flying fish the staff were all friendly and super helpfull every detail was spot on. The wedding barn was all decorated and looked amazing. Outside the scenery is perfect for photos. We had a carvery for the daytime meal which was lovely and a hot buffet in the evening which again was lovely. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff Julie the wedding planner was amazing we didn't have to do anything. We also met buddy the owner really nice man friendly we had a rum together 😀. The accommodation on site was spotless and really nice massive comfy bed slept like a baby. We had a really amazing day thank you so much.

Couldn't have wished for a better day!
There is so many amazing things I could say about Julie and The Flying Fish venue but the most important I'd like to share is that you will have a better day than you can imagine!
Julie and her team were amazing on the lead up as well as on the day, ensuring every element is sorted stress free. They are incredibly hard working, creating such a special environment and going the extra mile while making it look easy.
The venue is beautiful, the food was amazing and so many people have told my husband and I that it was the best wedding they had been to. Wish we could do it all over again.

Mr and Mrs Musgrave
We had the most perfect wedding here that we could’ve asked have ever imagined. Julie was incredible throughout, she took all the stress off of us throughout the process, she was honest about options/advice during the preparation and she ensured the day itself ran with no hiccups. Her and her ‘happy helpers’ were professional and attentive throughout and we couldn’t have asked for more from them. The barn was beautifully presented throughout and the food was all amazing. The rooms were clean and incredibly spacious, with a lovely breakfast the following provided with them the following morning.

Stunning views and amazing food
Amazing value for money the people that are truly amazing go above and beyond the staff are just the same they truly make a day very special. The views down there are just stunning can’t ask for a better setting. The food is out of this world and the chef really does know what they’re doing. The bar itself is beautifully decorated already really doesn’t need much adjustment. Just really couldn’t ask for a better day.

Genuinely cannot thank all the staff at The Flying Fish enough for making our wedding reception and stay the best! Everything just went so smoothly. It’s such a beautiful place with amazing views and the best food. We genuinely couldn’t have asked for more. Julie’s Happy helper were a great bunch of lads that were so professional, the owners (sorry I didn’t get your names) were soo welcoming and lovely. But the person I want to thank the most is Julie. You listened to what we wanted, put our minds at ease (mainly mine haha) and made the whole thing so easy and lovely! So thank you!

Well what can I say
Amazing venue and the quality and service you get for the price is second to none.
The staff were so accommodating understanding and helpful as they say they went above and beyond the whole day even the run up to the wedding day.
The surroundings,vibe and atmosphere was amazing.
Anyone looking for a barn wedding/country wedding this is the place.
Food was plentiful throughout the day and as for the overnight rooms well...... Clean airy and lots of room.

The flying fish is definitely the place to get married! The staff, the manager and wedding coordinator are all outstanding! We had the most amazing wedding and can’t fault anything! Julie was amazing from the get go nothing was ever too much for her. The food was absolutely beautiful and catered all the needs that was required and more! The overnight stay was amazing and breakfast was delicious! All guest said how wonderful and welcoming everyone at the flying fish was. I can’t wait to return back with my now husband and children for a meal. Thank you all for being amazing and absolutely outstanding all your efforts didn’t go unnoticed!

Beautifully Amazing
We had an amazing wedding thanks to the flying fish, it was a perfect venue for an intimate wedding with accommodation on site and perfect size for our amount of guests surrounded by beautiful country side and twinkly fairy lights and amazing grub all at a great price.
