The Cumberland Hotel is an elegant, 4 star wedding venue located in Bournemouth, Dorset. The venue, an art deco inspired full service hotel boasting a well-earned reputation in the local area, is perfect for couples looking for excellent service delivered in a building of character.

Planning your day

Your in-house wedding coordinator will be on hand every step of the way to make sure every dot is dotted and every cross is crossed. We will be there to get answers to the questions that matter most to you and give additional details based on our experience. We make it our business to make your planning fun and stress free.

Once everything is planned and the details are confirmed, we will make sure the operational teams have all the details they need to deliver your perfect day. We will also be there on the day to check over everything, meaning you can relax and enjoy your day knowing it is in good hands.

Wedding Menus and Drinks Packages

The Cumberland Hotel offers customizable food and drink packages, allowing you to create your menu with ease, and offer drinks throughout the day in your way. The team carefully sources the freshest ingredients from conscious suppliers to offer you the very best in traditional dishes and modern favourites. Once you have selected your wedding menu, we will invite you to attend a menu tasting with our culinary team to enjoy the items to be served on your special day.

When pairing wines, The Cumberland Hotel offers both old-world wines and contemporary classics. The full list of wines served can be found on our website, or you can request a copy of our list by emailing sales@oceanahotels.co.uk.

Through our experience planning and host weddings over the years, we have put together drinks packages to cover all the traditional moments. Capacity and Function Suites

The Cumberland Hotel can accommodated weddings of 10 to 200 guests, with bespoke offerings being available upon request. Depending on your expected guest numbers, one of our beautiful, character filled function suites will be yours for the day. You will also have use of a private cocktail reception suite, the hotel lounge bar, our Miami style lido deck and pool.

Once the celebrations have drawn to a close, you will also be able to make your way to your complementary honeymoon suite with a sea view (terms and conditions apply).

Wonderful Wedding Venue

With only 9 weeks until our wedding, we learnt that our venue was closing. Slight panic set in. A few phone calls later we had an appointment, for the next day, to meet Edward, as they had our weekend free and could accommodate our special day from start to finish. Following that meeting, we signed the paperwork, paid the deposit and breathed a huge sigh of relief, in the realisation that we had been very lucky.
Several meetings to sort out all the little details and arrange room bookings for the weekend followed. We were left feeling, that actually, our day, in some repects, could tun out to be even better than at the previous venue.
Next came a menu tasting. Due to time scales, we had chosen our menu and issued it to our guests for selection. Wow, we were not disappointed. There was nothing to fault, which for us is no mean feat. It was a wonderful evening. The staff were very attentive and polite, not just to us, but the whole ethos in the restaurant was as it should be. We left feeling full and secure in the knowledge that it was all going to be great.
To cut, what could be a very long story short, the day was a massive success. The ceremony was commented on by several guests. The day flowed as planned, the food was wonderful. Our planner Edward, who was overseeing his first solo wedding, was in the wings the whole time, making sure all went accordning to plan. Anything that was needed was arranged. We didn't have to worry about a thing and we had an absolutley amazing weekend.

Everything went perfect

The whole day was perfect from start to finish Chloe is always easy to contact and the staff was so friendly and helpful all day long. The food was brilliant and portions was bigger than any other wedding Iv been to highly recommend

Wedding June 2023

I honestly cannot recommend the Cumberland and the staff enough!
Our wedding was in June 2023 and from our first visit we were made to feel amazing! No request was too big and Chloe went above and beyond to make sure our day went as perfectly as possible
She was in contact regularly to go over lighting, music, and any other special requests. The day before we were able to take all our decorations to the venue and all were carefully stored for us. The next day I literally didn’t have to worry about a thing the staff arranged the room to our specifications perfectly and everything went so smoothly there was absolutely no stress for any of us which was amazing! Room changes were flawless there was no hassle or idle waiting around, the Dj the hotel provided as well was brilliant 🤩

All the staff are super friendly and helpful, the food and drink selection were perfect and all our guests commented on how nice the buffet selection was on the day it suited everyone from children to adults alike .

Our price covered everything including night before the wedding room for the bride, night of the wedding for bride and groom with breakfast, reception (minus the registra fee) drinks reception (1 glass of Prosecco for each guest) buffet for all guests (10 children - 100 adults) and a glass of Prosecco for each adult guest and the evening reception with Dj and pulled pork baps

I highly recommend if you’re looking for the perfect hotel wedding venue you will not be disappointed here the price point was the best we looked at and absolutely amazing value for the 5* service we were provided with

Amazing day

Chloe and the venue made the whole experience very smooth and really helped make the experience a lot less stressful. The room looked beautiful and the food was great. Our friends and family really enjoyed the day. Thank you!

Amazing Wedding

Right from our first meeting with Lisa Dowdall-Sousa, she and The Cumberland did not disappoint. Throughout our wedding reception the staff were courteous and attentive, the whole team couldn't do enough to help. Ourselves and all our guests had a wonderful time, we highly recommend Lisa and her team.

Couldn’t of asked for a better wedding day.

From booking our wedding in 2019 for our big day to be in 2020 until COVID hit, Lisa our wedding organiser was amazing!!! She kept us in the loop and postponed/rearranged twice with no quibble. She had so much attention to detail and wanted to make our day special. She took endless phone calls and replied to the annoying emails, trying to make our day perfect. She noted everything we wanted and everything was placed exactly where we asked on the day. Lisa contacted the different suppliers of the photographer, cake, light up letters and the photo booth so that everything ran smoothly.

The layout of the room was great and tables placed strategically, the turn around for transforming the room at each point was super efficient.

I cannot thank her enough for how amazing our day turned out, we absolutely loved it and the staff at the Cumberland, they where all fantastic and I would highly recommend having your special day with them. All the guests commented on how amazing it was and how they hadn’t been to a wedding that just flowed like it did there before.

Thank you so much Lisa, the staff and of course the kitchen for the amazing food choices ordered and cooked to perfection, which was served throughout the day, amazing.

Wedding Ceremony in the Oceana Suite

Absolutely beautiful, such a lovely place to get married. Staff were all polite and the wedding planner carried out such an amazing well timed job. Food was delicious and served piping hot.to a beautifully laid table. Well done to the chef and kitchen staff/waiters/waitresses. Would certainly recommend this as a venue for couples looking for an alternative to getting married abroad, no need when England offers this wedding package. - A great big thank you to all staff who ensured my daughter had the best day of her life.
Also got to see inside of the brooklyn suite which was spotlessly clean just like the rest of the hotel, the room had a brilliant view of the ocean.’

Weddign Reception and Party

We booked our wedding reception and eve party here on 16 Nov 19. From start to finish Lisa and Zack were amazing, so friendly, helpful and supportive. We used the ocean ballroom which was suitably decorated with a few xmas decs and really suited our theme. The food, set up, service, music and venue were perfect. I did not have to worry about anything. They helped with the preparation of the room in the day too which took a big weight off me!
Callum the DJ was great and played all the music we requested. All in all a great night had, feedback has been so positive, everyone loved it. Highly recommend.’

Wedding

We had our wedding here on 2.11.19. We had the absolute pleasure of having Brian as our wedding coordinator. From the very first time we spoke until the wedding was over, Brian has gone above and beyond to make our day perfect. Nothing was too much trouble, and he kept in constant contact, answering even the smallest questions wasn't an issue. His organisational skills are second to none, and he really made us both feel at ease.
The breakfast selection is lovely! Rooms are clean, and very welcoming. The staff were lovely too.
Thank you, especially Brian. He is a credit to the company.’

Wedding Weekend

When we started looking for wedding venues last year we viewed nearly everything in Dorset. We walked into the Oceana suite at the Cumberland hotel and instantly fell in love and knew this was the place we wanted to get married.
From our initial meeting with Lisa we felt completely safe in her hands. She is so lovely but a complete professional. Being someone who normally likes to take control I was more than happy to let Lisa take the lead. She listens to what you want makes suggestions you may not have thought about and makes your dreams a reality.
We decided to stay the night before we had a beautiful room with a sea view the room was immaculate.
The wedding day itself ran like clockwork. We didn’t even notice the staff around us as they went about their business making our day so enjoyable. I would like to mention the duty manager that day Jenny, she was so warm nothing was too much trouble and just made our day feel even more perfect so thank you Jenny. The room looked perfect, my guests were blown away with how delicious the food was. We really did have the greatest day. Our DJ was provided by the hotel listened to what we wanted and nailed it, the dance floor never empty.
We hired Garry Foley (elvis tribute act) for our entertainment who has worked with the Cumberland for many years and so I felt completely relaxed in the knowledge he could set up without any issue.
So if anybody out there is looking for a venue and a stress free day the Cumberland and their staff are amazing. Ask for Lisa she won’t let you down!’

Wedding

I recently got married at The Cumberland Hotel and highly recommend the venue. All the way through the process the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly and Lisa who looked after our wedding from the initial booking was just fantastic. Everything ran smoothly on the day and our families were extremely impressed by the food, staff and venue itself. If your looking for a wedding venue with the personal touch then The Cumberland would be a great option.

Womderful Wedding

Hi Brian

We had a wonderful Wedding. I can't thank you and the staff of the hotel enough. the food was amazing and the head guy in the restaurant (sorry I don't know his name) and the other waiting staff were amazing.

Everything ran very smoothly and I (we) didn't have to worry about anything. I only have one teenie tiny thing and that is it would have been helpful if there had been cards by the Indian food so everyone new which curry was which.

I will miss meeting up with you and chatting, could've talked to you for hours about gardening and the Theatre. You are a very warm and engaging person and i'm so glad we picked you and the hotel to celebrate our Wedding.

Wedding Reception

Lisa was very accommodating and helpful with us. Our booking was short notice but she made sure that all our requests were done. All the staff who served us were friendly. The venue was very clean and appropriate for the event. They can also the flower arrangements upon request. The food was really delicious although it took a while for the main course to be served but it was worth it anyway. Thank you for making our day extra special!

Wedding of the Year

The Cumberland hotel hosted our Art Deco style wedding on the 08th September 2018
We chose the venue because we had eaten here before in the Ventana Restaurant and had previously spent many evenings with friends and family.
We met with our wedding planner Brian Robbins a year and a half ago and we knew from that day we had chosen well. Brian was just amazing , nothing was too much trouble , he was always on hand when ever you needed to chat or meet
Brian made sure everything on the day ran to clockwork
We had over 100 guests stay with us for the whole weekend and everybody totally enjoyed themselves, the food was just amazing for the wedding breakfast and evening B-B-Q
We take our hats off to all the staff at the Cumberland Hotel you made our day even more special by making us totally able to enjoy ours with no worries

Hi, I’m Dom, and I’m proud to be the Sales & Events Coordinator across the beautiful Oceana Hotels here in Bournemouth — The Cumberland, The Suncliff, and Ocean Beach Hotel & Spa.

My journey into hospitality started behind the bar, where I quickly found a love for the buzz of working with people. While studying for my degree in Business and Management, I took an event management unit — and that’s where everything clicked. I realised how much I enjoyed the creativity, the organisation, and most of all, being part of such important, joyful moments in people’s lives.

Since then, I’ve worked my way up through different roles in the hotel, from bartender to Assistant Manager, and eventually into weddings and events — where I’ve really found my passion. Over the years, I’ve helped plan and deliver weddings of all shapes and sizes, from intimate dinners to elegant ballroom receptions.

I believe planning a wedding should feel exciting, not stressful. I’m here to guide each couple through the process, keep things running smoothly, and make sure their day feels truly personal and memorable. Every wedding is different, and I love getting to know each couple and bringing their vision to life.

I worked in most positions within different hotels/golf club and have gained years of experience that I brought to my current role. I really love my job and are lucky to meet so many wonderful guests. I pride myself on my friendly personality, great helpful organisation skills and my attention to detail.
