An amazing venue
By Hayley Coulson, on 16 Jun 2019Date of Wedding - 08 Jun 2019
We absolutely loved our wedding day at Sopley Mill on the 8th June 2019. The booking process and information that we were given about the Mill was clear and concise. All of the office team throughout our planning were happy, helpful and nothing was too much for them. I emailed many questions and queries which were always answered on the day by email. This made everything so easy for us. I visited the mill many times over the last year with family and friends and loved being able to visit on a Saturday morning before 11 0 clock as that is of course when weddings start to take place and visitors are no longer allowed. We even managed to take some pre wedding photos with our photographer one weekend which I imagine is tricky at some venues. The building is absolutely gorgeous and our guests loved how there are so many different areas to sit and have quiet time inside and outside. I absolutely loved being able to get ready there in the gorgeous bridal suite with my bridesmaids. The whole morning was so calm and chilled because we were there in one place together. Even though it was raining before we went into our service, it meant we had no concerns or worries because we didn’t even have to leave the building to go through to our ceremony room. We came out and the rain had stopped meaning we could go straight outside and enjoy our drinks reception. A perfect venue which suited our every need. The river backdrop is absolutely stunning and our photos with the mill in the background look like a painting. Thank you everyone at Sopley Mill for all of your help on the lead up to our big day - it was perfect!
The venue was simply perfect

The Venue was simply perfect and so many comments were made about how beautiful the venue is. We had the most magical day & couldn't have asked for anything more. Thank you so much.
I could go on and on with the positives

We truly had the most amazing day, everyone loved the Mill and it's settings. For us the flexibility in choosing our suppliers and the quality of those recommended meant we were able to personalise our day to make it everything we wanted.
The mill is absolutely beautiful and the privacy it offers is great. The fact we had so much space but didn't feel the need to go crazy on decorations really worked for us and the relaxed, less formal day we wanted.
We opted for the all inclusive package with Toms bar, including the clearaway package, however I did struggle a little with leaving everything for someone else to pack up as i was worried something might be missed or worse thrown away. Thankfully we didn't have anything to worry about and were able to quickly collect the next morning from the downstairs kitchen without interruption to the next bridal party; however we had a few people from the previous party popping by on our morning asking about items they were looking for. This wasn't a problem but something to note.
I could go on and on with the positives, we were extremely happy with our choices and didn't want the day to end. The mill, staff, suppliers all made our day extremely special ... thank you!
Non corporate thats what makes you special

Our day at the Mill went swimmingly. Your suppliers are fantastic at working with each other ensuring everything works in the way the Mill likes it to. if the couple getting married there are organised, there should not be any logistical issues at all. It was lovely to be able to do things as we wanted (as long as it was checked and OK’s by the Mill!) The only thing that caused confusion prior to the day was about the chairs. As the Mill has grown, the responsibilities have changed and I had a moment of panic about how the chairs would be moved around. With Jasmine there, it was made clear that the Mill always had 100 chairs in the ceremony room and there were another 100 chairs upstairs in the food part, which would be placed around the tables for us. 7 months down the line and I was being told you would “take the chairs from the ceremony room upstairs for the meal but would not put them out.” Caused a moment of anxiety which actually the catering company were able to quell. They advised that the chairs were always up there, they were happy to put them round the tables for us if we did not have time
I think with the turnover in staff over the year, the Mill done incredibly well in trying to keep some consistency with the clients. I certainly never felt as though I had to re-explain things or had any issues, which proves that handovers must be good.
I was impressed with the paperwork and how well the contract was laid out, all the information we received at the time of booking. I was very happy to be left alone with the suppliers.
Sopley Mill was the perfect location and venue

Sopley Mill was the perfect location and venue for our wedding. The staff of Sopley mill were always very helpful when we had questions and on the day they did all they could to make sure the day ran smoothly.
We loved the river running though the mill, the beautiful grounds and the lovely rooms.
We had a fantastic day and we are very happy with our choice of venue. Only the weather could have been slightly better but we were glad to get some sun in the afternoon.
Id highly recommend the Mill as a beautiful venue

I cannot say anything but good things about your venue and the day we had. I loved how laid back and helpful you all were and how you made the planning of the day that much easier and more relaxed. If anyone asked me, I’d highly recommend Sopley Mill as a beautiful venue.
Great value for money

Everyone commented on how beautiful the venue was. We thought the venue was stunning and great value for money. I liked the extra decorations that were available that saved us providing everything. You were on it with the ceremony too making sure we were all ready and helping us get down the aisle.
There weren't many things that we felt strongly about in terms of improvements. Just a comment about the music equipment, maybe state that a long AUX is preferable so the person operating the equipment can watch the ceremony?
Also having people viewing the venue whilst we were getting ready wasn't ideal but I understand that the hire doesn't start till 11am.
I hope that's helpful and thank you again for all your help. It really was a dream day.

My now husband and I had been engaged 4 years before finally being able to have our dream wedding. That being said we originally started planning our wedding after a year of being engaged and Sopley Mill was one of the first venues we viewed. It was a cold, dark miserable night in January but the mill still blew us away. Fast forward 2 years after looking at pretty much every other venue in Dorset we decided Sopley Mill was the place we wanted to book.
In the planning stages there was always someone on hand to answer my questions. I was able to phone or e-mail the office at any time with any questions I had and got an answer pretty much straight away.
If I'm being totally honest, I was so worried that because I didn't have a wedding co-ordinator things would go wrong on the day but I can honestly say that everything went perfectly - that I know of and if it didn't well that just shows the staff did a good job of sorting any problems without my knowing! We had Tom's bars serving drinks for the whole day and Red Cherry as our caterers and between them the day ran smoothly. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff from either of these companies and the bar manager from Tom's bespoke bars even helped us sort a mini crisis with a marshmallow tree on the morning!
Sopley Mill is a blank canvas where you can add any colours/themes/ideas and it will all come together and the mill itself is stunning without any added decoration!
We had the most fabulous day and everyone commented on what a beautiful place it is.
Sopley Mill was absolutely beautiful and the whole

Sopley Mill was absolutely beautiful and the whole day ran very smoothly- mainly thank to you Emma.. You were very calm and made an anxious Bridezilla less stressed. So personal thank you to you.
I would say the thing we loved the most is the venue is stunning and also you can make your wedding your own- from catering to decoration etc. So no wedding is the same! Leaving your own stamp on your big day for me is so precious.
Great Venue but sting in the tail!

This is a review from the Father of the Bride. Sopley Mill great location, I would say every guest commented what a lovely location. Pre dealings all done by my daughter were handled professionally and promptly. My daughters wedding went all to plan and we had a fantastic day which the Mill certainly played its part in. Sting in the Tail? Toms Bespoke Bars not fulfilling their obligations on the day which we sorted with minimum fuss on the day. They then withheld my daughters £400 deposit due to a fabrication of lies and basically slander. I feel the need to make others aware of Toms Bespoke Bars and their improper business conduct. I await more lies and fabrication in any reply from them.
The Mill was absolutely beautiful

The Mill was absolutely beautiful and we fell in love with it more and more, each time we visited. All of our guests also told us they thought it made the most wonderful venue for our wedding. We were very lucky to have pretty much the only sunny day in July, but even if we were stuck inside the feedback I feel would've been of a similar nature.
We loved the amount of outside space the most to be honest, and are so glad we got to use it to its full potential. I'd also like it noted we really appreciated the laid-back and flexible approach David and the team had in terms of bookings, viewings, preparation, decoration and timings.
Weddings are a minefield and potentially very stressful times, especially when organising every aspect yourselves as we did. We are so grateful to the whole team as their friendly and approachable (and flexible!) nature meant we could concentrate on getting our day sorted in exactly the way we wanted.
It didn't bother us in the slightest to have to rent picnic tables for our day, so we could eat outside. But, a lot of other venues do provide outside dining facilities as included should you wish to concentrate your reception or wedding breakfast outside.
A small issue, but something we noticed both on the day and in photographs afterwards: the inside of the window which overlooks the water running through the Mill is quite dirty with cobwebs. I have no idea how this would be sorted however it is something we noticed. On the plus side, this means the mill is original and historic!
Only after your money

So days after booking our dream Wedding sadly my fiancée became seriously ill leaving us no option but to postpone to a later date, so at the first convenient time I called to give notice on our situation where I was kindly dealt with, as you could imagine we were unable to confirm a new date right then so we discussed sopley keeping the initial £500 deposit and refunding the other £1275 and that they would resell our date this was September 2016, after no contact from them
A friend of mine was at the office February 2017 as inquiring on dates for there wedding he was told our date was no available so clearly not up for resell then to receive a email may 2017 we were asked pay the final payment of £1225 for our wedding the following month!! I have tried reasoning with them but for them to say that wages etc still needed to be paid but would credit me for a new date in the future so only seems it's only about the money, with partner still very ill this would of gone a long way to her recovery but they don't see this as special circumstances so leaves me no option but to start legal proceedings. Yes we should of taken insurance but at the time it would of been the last thing on our Minds
