Newcastle Castle
About
Newcastle Castle is a truly unique and beautiful wedding venue located in the heart of Newcastle Upon Tyne. Dating back to the 11th century, this remarkable Norman Fortress will be your very own castle for the day, with characterful and historic architecture throughout providing an idyllic setting for your fairytale wedding.
In 1080, Robert Curthose, eldest son of William the Conqueror, built a motte-and-bailey castle on the site of the old Roman fort; it is from this latter castle that the city of Newcastle derives its name. Work on the stone Castle Keep was begun in 1172, during the reign of Henry II, the first Plantagenet king. The Black Gate was later added during the reign of Henry III and was completed in 1250. Today, the Keep and Black Gate are Grade I listed buildings. The castle is only a short walk from picturesque Grey Street, renowned for its stunning Georgian architecture. It also affords spectacular views of Quayside, Gateshead, and The River Tyne. You and your guests are invited to experience all that this magnificent historical treasure has to offer. Make your wedding part of the city’s rich and wonderful story, and enjoy a day you’ll never forget.
Whether you’d prefer to dance the night away with live medieval music, have surly guards greet your guests on arrival, have cannon fire announce your wedding in style, or even have a personalised banner to hang in the Great Hall, here at Newcastle Castle we will help you create a truly bespoke and unique experience by adding a little medieval magic to your special day!
