Alexandrina & Matthew wedding 1.9.23

Just a quick note to thank you and your fantastic team for a truly amazing and wonderful day.
The location, building and grounds were truly beautiful, creating the perfect backdrop for our wedding. Emma was amazing in the organisation and lead up to our day, so professional with no stone left unturned.
On the day, from start to end, the team surpassed everything we ever dreamed of, Nelson and Vanessa were outstanding in every way, with complements from all our guests on our wedding breakfast, the bar, the rooms, the service and every other aspect of our day.
We thank you from the bottom of our Hearts!!

Perfect venue for a perfect day

When we began our wedding venue search we knew we wanted somewhere that was easily accessible for friends and family across the UK, that had onsite and local accommodation, offered exclusive hire and wasn't a hotel. With that in mind, Grittleton ticked all our boxes plus more that we didn't know we had! It's a strikingly beautiful and well kept venue that is very grand, but isn't overwhelming and still feels welcoming.
From the very beginning Emma, the Wedding Coordinator was a great help and source of advice throughout the planning and final details and is so personable, you really don't feel like just another couple. During our wedding day, Nelson, Venue Manager was on hand to guide us through the day and make sure things ran exactly as we wanted them to and it was reassuring to have him there. All of the staff were friendly and professional.
The Drawing Room where the Bridal party get ready in is beautiful and allows the Bride get ready in comfort, feeling relaxed with no worries about transport!
We had the most perfect wedding day, with guests telling us how good and plentiful the food was, how great the venue and bedrooms were and how fun the day was. We wouldn't change a thing!

A bespoke magical venue

Francesca and I were married on 15th June 2023 and we held our wedding reception at Grittleton House in Wiltshire. An old school is probably an unlikely event for a wedding, however the moment we set foot inside Grittleton House we were inspired by the architecture, the history and the welcome.

All the way leading up to the wedding, Grittleton House were easy to communicate with and often responded out of hours, we really got the feeling that our day was just as important to Grittleton House as it was to us!

The people
Emma, the resident wedding organiser filled us with confidence the moment we met her. We both came away with the feeling that ours was the only wedding that mattered. The Grittleton House experience is definitely not one of a ‘revolving door’ but a bespoke wedding with the added feeling that nothing would be too much trouble.

Emma and I joked about how I was her ‘favourite groom’ .. Now I’m quite sure that was only a temporary title and shared with endless others but that is definitely not how it felt! Both Francesca and I always felt, through the process that our day at Grittleton House was special and important.

The staff were polite, courteous, couldn’t do enough for us and for the most part were silently working away in the background. The house is structured such that there is an aisle that runs parallel to the main hall (that you and your guests would use). As such, staff are able to seamlessly work between the kitchen, bar and reception room without imposing unnecessarily on our day. Further, when you did need help, the Grittleton House ethos is definitely one of ‘just help and ask questions later’.

Location .. Location
The house is in a wonderful location just on the outskirts of the Cotswolds. There are 11 bedrooms inside the house, there is extra accommodation on site (in the stables), there are B&B’s walking distance and the Neeld Arms pub has four rooms less than 50 steps away.

Francesca and I were always looking for a church service and the beautiful St Mary the Virgin (Church of England) is only 60 steps from the house. You really get a sense of community working with the Grittleton team and their suppliers.

Grittleton House have a list of suppliers they’ve worked with in the past, of those suppliers we used from their list we found them professional, friendly and experienced, helping deliver a truly wonderful day.

For those looking for a civil ceremony, the house is licensed for weddings and has a number of beautiful rooms with multiple possibilities to ensure your day is as unique as you are.

Something tasty
We had a strict budget, despite this we had endless comments from our guests both during and after the wedding saying how amazing the food was! We were both far too nervous and excited to eat much! However our guests have been telling us that there was more food than they could imagine and it was to a very high standard! The main course (pork) was tasty and delicate, the desert (sticky toffee pudding) was light and a huge hit with everyone. The evening food (‘something and chips') was equally impressive, there was lots of it and just as delicious as the wedding breakfast! A number of guests that had to leave early ended up taking more away with them as they went in little boxes!

We tucked into breakfast the following morning and it was amazing! After our wedding we spent a few days at a ‘high end’ hotel in the Cotswolds and their breakfast couldn’t come close to that we had at Grittleton House!

Over an above
Our guests didn’t notice but there were things (decorations etc that weren’t there during previous visits) that we noticed Grittleton House had done .. Grittleton House did everything to make the house look as spectacular as they could.

During the meal we had a small “gravy issue” with the brides dress!! (Not a fault of the house, it was clumsy knife work due to nerves) .. Francesca started to hyperventilate, I kicked into full-on ‘husband to the rescue’ mode and ran to the office for help! The only person there at the time was Vanessa (who owns the house) .. and she took it upon herself to come and help! If I was looking for a way to demonstrate how the Grittleton team make you feel, it was this moment. From the top down, they act first-ask questions later and above all they all care!

Your house, your home
From the moment you arrive at the house on the day you’ll feel like Lord and Lady of the manor! For the bride, she has a dedicated room to prepare and get ready.

Top Tip: If you choose to stay in the Lady Edith room, not only is it beautiful, its right next door to the bridal preparation room! Also, its at the top of the wonderful grand staircase, which makes it very convenient to trip backwards and forwards during the day/evening should you wish.

During the day, the staff took control of our suppliers, ensuring people knew where to go and what to do when they arrived. They would also have chased up suppliers if there was a problem on the day. All without troubling the wedding party!

Then in the evening after the party we retired (with those guests staying) to the Family Library and continued our evening. It was completely seamless, we weren’t troubled by any staff, this truly felt like we were in our own home!

When we finally got everyone off to bed (some easier than others) I had time to go downstairs and collect a few bits. Imagine that feeling you get when you pop downstairs in your own home for something .. but its much much bigger and impressive! Take some time to just take in the beauty of the house, all quiet and still .. after such a chaotic day it was an incredible feeling! It’s a magical place during the day and in the evening, you almost expect that, should you find a wardrobe, you wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a snowy Narnia behind it!

The rooms
All the rooms in the house are amazing. Clearly Grittleton House have spent a lot of time and effort in carefully designing each individual room to a very high standard. Each is unique and in keeping with house and they are all huge (with one exception - which is an adjoining room).

The verdict
We saw a number of venues before we settled on Grittleton House and a number of them will make you feel like you’re marrying in Hogwarts .. However, at those venues we got the feeling it would be a “Warner Bros wedding” .. it would follow the same theme as everyone else’s, staff trudging through the same routine, no room for individuality and it would all come at a Hollywood price!

By contrast, Grittleton House dating back to the 1600’s is the real deal! It’s beautiful, its got character and its set in stunning Cotswold scenery with beautifully manicured grounds. Most importantly, its privately owned by Vanessa and her family who will make you feel so very welcome and its staffed by a team, who, (run by Emma) simply can’t do enough for you .. and when they all go to bed, its all yours!

Stunning, professional, friendly

Wow. Just WOW. We had our wedding day at Grittleton House in May 2021 and it was just the most wonderful day. We cannot thank Grittleton House enough. The team went over and above for us throughout our planning journey, including during the pandemic and the uncertainty around this, right up to ensuring our wedding day went smoothly.

The house and gardens are clearly stunning in photos but it is even more beautiful in person. There is also a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, you really felt at home. Every course of our wedding breakfast was delicious and all our guests commented on how lovely the food was. Also, all our guests who stayed overnight in the house bedrooms on the night of our wedding commented on how lovely the beds are - all had a great nights sleep. Having the option to stay overnight at the house and have breakfast with our loved ones the following day was a perfect way to tie up our celebrations.

If we were to plan our wedding all over again, we would without a doubt choose Grittleton House.

Independent wedding venue that feels like home for your wedding day.

Wow what can we say about Grittleton!
We had the most perfect day.
We fell in love with Grittleton as soon as we drove up the drive back in Jan 2020. Unbeknownst to us our chosen date of October 2020 wouldn’t go ahead. Emma made each postponement (we had a few) seamless. It could have been a very stressful time, but Emma & the owners kept us updated throughout lockdown.
When our time finally come in April 2023 the house was even shiner than before with newly renovated rooms.
They made you feel like it’s your home for the day. We had a lot of out-of-town guests and they all commented on how amazing the house was.
Nelson & the team were fantastic, they answered all questions & were on hand to help with our 11-month-old daughter who was napping in her buggy they kept an eye on her whilst the speeches had begun & informed us when she was awake.
We would highly recommend this venue to any newly engaged couples. Not only is the house beautiful but the knowledge Emma has to help you to plan your perfect wedding is invaluable.
If you want a personalised service in a stunning house with amazing gardens this is the place for you.

The Perfect Wedding Venue

If you are looking for the perfect wedding venue then Grittleton House is the place for you. From start to finish, Emma and the team make the whole process so very easy.

The house itself is incredibly beautiful, and makes for a perfect backdrop for a magical ceremony. The bedrooms in the house are amazing, and the bridal dressing room is something to behold (think Bridgerton).

The food is incredible. Our guests continuously complimented the food all day. We would thoroughly recommend the Cornish Pasties for the evening food choice. These come from Bude and everyone was really impressed with the quality and range of flavours available.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this venue to anyone. It was the perfect day for us.

the PERFECT wedding venue

Grittleton House was the perfect venue for our August 2023 wedding. Not only is the house itself stunning, but the grounds are well kept and look beautiful at anytime of year. We felt like royalty being able to host our friends and family in a venue like Grittleton. But above all else, if we had to do our wedding over again, we would choose Grittleton House every time for the staff alone.
Emma, the wedding coordinator, is enough reason to have your wedding here as any. Even before we booked Grittleton, she was on hand to answer any questions, and was available whenever we needed her right up to the big day. She was always happy to help us, and be on hand to assist us when we had problems arise with other aspects of wedding planning. Her knowledge and experience meant that she was always able to advise us on the best options, all whilst making us feel like the only couple getting married at the venue. For someone like myself, who loves to plan but gets very easily stressed, Emma was the perfect coordinator, and I always felt so much more relaxed after speaking with her; there was no one else I would’ve trusted with our wedding as much as her.
Nelson was on hand the day of our wedding, and was a joy to have around. During the set up of the wedding, he knew the names of everyone there, and their relation to myself and my husband, without me being aware he was ever introduced to them. He was aware of what task everyone was currently completing, and what still needed to be done. I had planned this wedding for just shy of 2 years, and Nelson knew the vision better in 20 minutes than I did.
All of the wait staff from the wedding day and cleaning staff that we met the following morning were so polite and welcoming to this family home. Even when we were late checking out, they couldn’t have been kinder and more understanding.
The food is lovely and all allergies and dietary requirements were catered for incredibly well. The bedrooms in the stables were clean and comfortable, but the rooms in the main house were outstanding – beautifully decorated and full of little amenities that made it feel even more homely.
On the morning of the wedding, we had a couple of dramas, which could have easily dampened the mood of the whole day. One of which was handled incredibly well by the team, and we cannot thank them enough for their help and support; on the day, and after the wedding.
For us, the best part of Grittleton House were all the little touches we received as the newlywed couple. I wont detail them on here, as they weren’t mentioned to us throughout the whole process and were lovely surprise to find out about on the day, and I would hate to take that away from other couples. But it really did make us feel like the most important people in the world, and the whole team felt like extended family.

Thank you once again for having us,
Mr & Mrs Seymour

Perfect wedding day

We had the perfect wedding day at Grittleton House. The venue is incredibly beautiful and you can choose from a range of rooms and spaces for the different parts of the day so that it works for you.

The venue hire includes support with planning, setting up and managing the day, helping to make sure everything runs smoothly. This was a huge help and took a lot of the pressure off us when planning the day.

The food and drink was amazing, with huge portions and great staff. We are still getting compliments from guests about the canapés and meal!

Another huge benefit of the venue is that is has onsite accommodation, which means that guests don’t need to travel at the end of the night. The rooms in the main house are beautiful and there is plenty of room in the stable block. We also booked out all of the rooms in the village at the Manor Farm and Neeld Arms B&Bs, which are just a short walk away.

Grittleton House is not a budget venue, but for the quality of the venue, food and service, we felt it was excellent value for money.

Absolutely perfect

I had my wedding here in May and I could not recommend it enough. The whole house is stunning and very well maintained along with the rooms in the main house that are beautifully renovated. Throughout our whole experience of booking up to the wedding day Emma was very organised and on hand over email which made the process easy. on the final run through meeting Emma was very good at advising how much drinks to include and what wasn't necessary etc and best timings based on experience. Our tasting evening was also fab we loved the food and a great chance to try everything.

On the day all the staff were perfect, we even had a mix up by a guest but Emma and Nelson fixed it smoothly and quickly so my husband didn't have to worry. Nelson was also super helpful on the day, calming and directing us both on the best things to do and where to be. The food was great, we mixed and matched menu's which allowed us to chose what worked for us. On the morning of Emma directed all my suppliers so I didn't have to deal with anything. A lovely little touch at the end of our wedding too was slices of cake being left in our room as we didn't get any during the day.

Overall everything was amazing about Grittleton and meant we had the best wedding day with our guests commenting how much they loved the venue and enjoyed walking around the gardens.

Book this venue…. It truly is incredible

The most incredible wedding venue and team there is. Thank you for making our wedding day the most perfect and memorable day of our lives. Emma, Vanessa, Nelson and the rest of the Grittleton team were amazing from the moment we booked our wedding to the wedding day. Emma was always on hand to answer questions but also to advise on the decisions we were making in the planning process. On the day they made sure everything went smoothly from the timings, the attentiveness of waiting and bar staff ,to the positioning of guest book/ photo frames. You truly blew us away with your support and dedication on the day, it felt like you were our friends at our wedding.

As food lovers we knew food would be an important part of our day. We customised our wedding breakfast menu with the chef and it was everything we dreamed of. The quality and quantity of the food and the presentation is exceptional. We have had so many compliments from guests about how it was the best wedding food they had ever eaten. People have not stopped talking about the food from the canapés, to the wedding breakfast and to the evening food. The bar staff were amazing and made incredible cocktails to start our evening reception.

The house itself is breathtaking. It is so beautiful and feels likes such a special and magical place. It was perfect for photographs inside and outside in the grounds too.

Grittleton House truly has a special place in our hearts and we can not wait to find an excuse to come back. Thank you once again for making our wedding day even more perfect than we could have ever imagined.
