Colville Hall is a stately country wedding venue outside Great Dunmow, Essex, immersed in pastoral beauty. Rich in charm and history, this unique group of thatched barns sit sweetly around a picturesque courtyard where 200 guests can celebrate in privacy. Here, 10 acres of beautiful formal grounds set the stage for a picture-worthy occasion, complete with gazebos, ancient monuments, and a Grade I archway.

This verdant setting is awash with possibilities, its Orchard Barn and two enchanting outdoor gazebos being licensed to hold civil ceremonies. Such choice makes this year-round venue full proof for all seasons, even if your summer wedding should take a turn. After your ceremony, you have the option of transforming The Orchard Barn with ease to accommodate a drinks reception or group photo session. Meanwhile, Mill Pond Barn is Colville Hall's signature reception site, boasting 30-foot glass doors and incredible views of the serene duck pond. Nearby, the Bridal Suite, Stables and Old Dairy are the prime spot for you and your wedding party to stay. As for the day the new Prep Room will ensure you can get ready for your big day in the lap of luxury.

The most amazing day at Colville Hall
We got married at Colville Hall on 05/07/2025 and it was everything we could have hoped for and more. It was the 4th venue we visited when we were initially shopping around, and 5 minutes into the tour my now-husband looked to me with a sparkle in his eyes and we knew we had found the perfect place for us.
We loved having the ceremony and the party in the same location, while still having very distinct areas to celebrate each. The lawn area was a perfect place for our guests to relax and we were able to have a range of lawn games that brought so much joy throughout the day.
On the day itself, everything flowed seamlessly from one thing to the next. My husband and I were really able to just focus on having as much fun as possible, without having to really worry about any of the practicalities. We couldn't have asked for a better day, or a better place, to get married! The on-site accommodation was also a nice bonus as we were able to have a nice slow start to the morning the next day.
A particular shout-out to Carrie who was a dream throughout this whole process! She was always extremely quick to reply to my emails, no matter how silly the question or how many questions I asked. Her replies were always detailed and extremely helpful, and definitely helped to make it feel like a stressfree process.
Thanks so much to everyone at Colville Hall for making it such a special day for us!!

Beautiful Venue
My Husband and I got Married at Colville hall, and it was an absolutely amazing day. We knew from the moment we saw the venue it was where we wanted to get married no other venue came close to its beauty. It was exactly what we wanted. Claire our wedding planner was incredible, helping us plan the wedding before hand and making sure everything ran smoothly during the day its self! I really could not have done it with out her, she looked after us so well and we knew we were safe hands. We really can’t thank Claire enough, she made sure our special day was everything we wanted it to be and more!

Fantastic wedding venue!
We had the best day of our lives at Colville Hall. The day went so smoothly with the venue commnicating with us in the lead up and our venue coordinator Karen supporting with so much running around on the day! We also live in Australia so we planned this from abroad and the day was perfect, even the weather surprised us! Lots of comments from guests on the beautiful venue - not much decoration required as the place has so much character. Would highly recommend to anyone needing a barn venue big enough to have 130 guests with the meal, dancing and a band in the same space without needing to move tables. Would do it again 😆

Stunning venue, amazing grounds!
We had our wedding August 2024, Colville is a stunning venue with stunning grounds make perfect backdrops for all your photos.
We had the ceremony in the top barn it is rustic and was perfect for us, then our evening reception in the other barn.
We loved our day and loved the venue.
Our guests loved that it felt like our own little world for the day and was private and surrounded by nature.

Simply Breathtaking
I fell in love with this venue the second we stepped into the ceremony barn and I couldn't have been happier with how it all went. The team at Colville really looked after us and were happy to answer any questions we had. Some rules about food and alcohol need to be noted - don't bring your own. So accommodating with requests and set up everything we wanted perfectly. The day itself ran so smoothly and that is down to the team. The two barns work perfectly to keep ceremony and celebrating seperate. The grounds are stunning for pictures. Accommodation is a little expensive but due to location of venue this is a good idea - taxis definitely need to be pre-booked by guests.

Colville Hall is truly an amazing wedding venue, as soon as we pulled in to view Colville we knew straightaway that this is where we wanted to get married, the grounds and barns are absolutely stunning. We got married on the 19th August and the whole day from start to finish was perfect. Leading up to our wedding Phillipa, Claire and Karen were always available to answer any questions that we had and Karen was amazing on the day. We can honestly say that our wedding day was one of the best days of our lives and that Colville Hall is breathtakingly beautiful.

Dream wedding venue
We had our wedding at Colville Hall in June and it was the day of dreams. We knew straight away that Colville was the place we wanted to get married and it didn't disappoint, it is such a stunning venue. We loved getting to spend parts of the day outside and inside and all our guests have said how lovely it was. Claire is absolutely fantastic and was on hand whenever we wanted to ask her questions, and she made sure we were comfortable with everything and made the day go so smoothly. Thank you to Claire and Philippa and everyone else at Colville for an incredible wedding!

Best day ever at this stunning venue!
Colville Hall was the first venue that my now husband and I viewed after we first got engaged back in 2018. We then viewed a few other barn style venues in Essex and we just kept comparing them to Colville - they didn't even come close! The venue is stunning, the grounds are beautiful and there was plenty of space for all of our guests (we had 100 + for the day, then another 50 in the evening!). Claire the Coordinator was fantastic on the day and leading up to the wedding. She was so warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble! She was always on hand if we had any questions, and her service combined with the caterers Premier Crew make an excellent team. Our only criticism was that we would have loved to have stayed in the Bridal Suite the night of the wedding but the owner of the venue wouldn't allow us to because we hadn't booked the other accommodation, even though we were willing to pay. Despite this, we had a wonderful day and many of our guests commented that it was the best wedding they'd ever been to. Overall, would definitely recommend this venue.

Stunning venue with an excellent team
Matt and I fell in love with Colville Hall as soon as we saw it. We had looked at other barn venues that felt like new builds trying to be barns but these barns are authentic and beautiful. We loved the fact that there are separate barns for the ceremony and wedding breakfast so you don't have to wait on the room to be turned round. The grounds are stunning but even if the weather is not what you hope for the barns are gorgeous and there are plenty of lovely photo opportunities inside; another reason why we chose the venue.
Claire, the wedding planner, was exceptional throughout the entire process and made life so easy for us. On the day we had COVID cancellations and had to re-arrange the seating plan last minute as I sat in my PJs and she just took care of it. My nephew wasn't feeling great in the evening and the team went above and beyond to source Calpol for him. We can't say enough good things!
There is a choice of 3 caterers and three drinks packages. My only slight negative comment is that we would have liked to swap one of the wines, with the same supplier and we were obviously happy to pay the difference, but this wasn't possible and we had to stick with the specific package choice. However, on the flip side, the team were very flexible with only a small deposit due during COVID times.
This is a beautiful venue and Claire will make sure you have a perfect day! We had the most amazing day and have fantastic memories to look back on for years to come.
