Situated in the heart of Clifton Village, West Yorkshire, Bert's Rooms and Events (at The Black Horse Inn Clifton), is an intimate wedding venue steeped in history. Family-owned for over 70 years, this distinctive 17th-century inn radiates a traditional British charm that blends in effortlessly with the surrounding Georgian architecture. With open fires and beautiful outdoor settings, this is a wonderful venue for a cosy country wedding.
Facilities and Capacity
Fully licensed for civil ceremonies, Bert's Rooms and Events is ideal for laidback weddings, allowing couples to host every stage in one inviting space. This rustic haven is a short 20-minute drive from Leeds, making it a convenient location for city excursions and tranquil retreats. For destination weddings, this is the ideal space to soak up the serene ambience that the British countryside offers in abundance. The aesthetic continues within the inn, with its oak beams and exposed brick and traditional open fires. Civil ceremonies can be held in The Wellington Suite or Clifton Room, which accommodates 60 guests. This secluded event space is a beautiful blank canvas for couples to craft their unique stamp. The space can fit up to 60 for a seated meal with doors that open out onto a gorgeous courtyard, ideal for post-ceremony drinks. Evening receptions we can hold a maximum of 90-100 guests. At the end of the evening, the happy couple can retire to the luxury Epernay Room while guests can choose from 12 individually designed bedrooms set over 17th-century cottages. We offer exclusive use of Berts Rooms & Events cottages, that can be extended to include exclusivity of our main bar and Clifton room of The Black Horse Inn.

Sunflower Wedding July 2025 🌻☀️🎊
From walking into Berts on a wedding open day, we knew this would be the perfect venue for us. Not too big, not too small and a very friendly welcome.
Lydia and her team were brilliant from start to finish accommodating our wishes.
The venue is gorgeous with a lovely courtyard area which our guests enjoyed (we were blessed with a sunny day!), delicious food and excellent service. An added bonus for us was it being dog friendly.
We cannot recommend Berts highly enough, we had the perfect day as did our guests 😊 Just wish that we could do it all again 💕

A perfect day!
From meeting Lydia and first visit to Bert's/ The Black Horse Inn we knew this was the venue for us and what we were hoping to achieve for our day.
Lydia and the whole team/family delivered our day exceeding our expectations! Nothing was too much trouble, Lydia was quick to respond to any queries and throughout kept say it's your day no pressure to stray away from what we were looking for. When we said we didn't want a traditional wedding cake, Lydia sourced exactly what we were looking for with a show stopper of a pork pie and cheese tiered "cake" looked and tasted amazing!
Krystle, the celebrant, set the day and vibe with a ceremony which was brilliant and so personal to us.
We had a Twilight ceremony package plus DJ and rooms. The food was great with plenty of choices from canapes, buffet plus special dietary requirements catered for. The DJ kept us all dancing to the end of what was a perfect day!
We stayed in the Bridal Suite which was gorgeous, other family and guests all were happy with their rooms and a hearty breakfast the following morning helped ease a few sore heads.
In all a perfect day, our way and would highly recommend. The different packages available to suit different budgets and styles from formal, intimate to Twilight help to tailor your day.

Absolutely amazing
We had one year to plan our wedding. With the help of Lydia our coordinator, everything was made possible. Lydia went above and beyond. She was quick to respond to messages and open to all our ideas. When it came to the day, everything ran smoothly. All the staff were fantastic, the food was amazing and it was everything we could have wished for. If we could do it again, we would, exactly the same. Would highly recommend, not only the venue, but everyone behind the scenes making the day possible. All our guests that stayed the night, loved their rooms, the bridal suite was amazing and can’t wait to visit again as husband and wife.

We got the day we wanted
Lydia and her team turned my vision into reality, they really couldn't have done more for us.

Unbeatable wedding experience
Amazing wedding experience from start to finish. The entire team were amazing and supportive from the planning to the finishing touches. We cannot recommend highly enough. Lydia and the team were amazing throughout and our day couldn’t have been more perfect thanks to everyone involved.

Amazing wedding
We chose this venue as it was far and away the best value for money from others in the area. The food is delicious, the venue is beautiful and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Lydia was so organised and professional and nothing was too much trouble. If you are looking for an intimate venue I can’t recommend it enough

Wedding July 2025
Lydia is absolutely amazing, nothing is too much trouble and she offers a very personal and tailored service.
Our whole day was amazing. The venue is very special all of our guests were delighted with their rooms and the whole feel of the place.
The food was amazing and can esily be tailored and adjusted to your needs all of which Lydia just arranged perfectly , we had a few vegan guests and this was no problem , she is very calm and helpful all of the time and is so willing to make any adjustments.
We felt it was such a personalised service and Lydia cared as much as we did about everything.
We attended a coupe of open days and this helped us to visualise how our day would be, arranging seating plans (which we changd a lot and Lydia did not bat an eyelid she is so kind and patient) we also met our florist (Classic Stems) and this helped so much with the look the flowers were fabulous and Rachel Lawson our photgrapher so was wonderful, both offered a personal service and are very familiar with Lydia and the venue.
The whole team are great the waitresses are all friendly , we had a little bit of rain and this did not spoil how special our day was , the service was effecient , warm and friendly .

Amazing venue
We got married here in June and we had the most amazing day from start to finish. Lydia is the most amazing at helping with the wedding planning and kept in touch through out everything. Nothing was too much for her! The staff were friendly and service was excellent. The Venue has to be seen to see the how beautiful it is. The photos really dotn do it justice it is the most stunning venue and was perfect for our intimate wedding. We could not have asked for anymore! Thank you Lydia and staff for making our wedding our perfect day!

Our perfect wedding
We had the absolute wedding of our dreams at the Black Horse Inn / Berts rooms and events. !
From the moment we toured the venue, we knew it was something special the grounds are stunning, the atmosphere is warm and elegant, and everything about the space just felt right.
But what truly made our day exceptional was Lydia, our wedding planner. She was incredible from start to finish organized, calm, responsive, and genuinely invested in making our day perfect. No detail was too small, and her experience and passion really shone through. She handled everything so seamlessly that we were able to completely relax and enjoy every moment.
Our guests are still raving about the venue and how smoothly everything went. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Thank you to Lydia and the entire team at the Black Horse Inn for making our wedding unforgettable!

We got married here on the 25th of May 2025 and we are so excited to be able to look back at our wedding day and say it was absolutely perfect, and this definitely wouldn’t be the case without the amazing staff who made it possible.
Planning the wedding was a lovely and chilled process, Lydia was such a joy to meet. She put us so at ease and the attention to detail for our big day was phenomenal. We went away from every meeting leading up to the wedding feeling confident and excited.
The wedding ran so smoothly with a member of the venue staff always there to guide us and our guests to what was going on next and where we should go.
The venue itself is so beautiful, and everything was decorated exactly as we had asked. We are so happy we chose to hire the courtyard as guests loved having somewhere else to go and the wedding photos look amazing when taken there.
All our guests loved the wedding breakfast, the food was amazing, we even said it was better than when we did the menu tasting which we didn’t think was possible! Staff catered to all of our guests dietary requirements easily.
Overall we would definitely recommend this venue for anyone's big day.
We cant wait to go back for all the years to come on our anniversary's.
