Reviews for The Wedding Travel Company
And they are called a Wedding company?!
Everything started with the sale lady called Peggy back in August 2024. We decided that we wanted to get married on the beach in Cyprus so we agreed on a wedding on the beach and the ceremony to be on the beach as well. After paying the deposit, we’ve got assigned to a different handler called Suzanne whom was meant to help us through the actually wedding planning and everything that leads up to the wedding date. One of my good friends is from Cyprus so I asked about flower companies and other decoration arrangements, I asked Suzanne, if I was able to use my friends recommendation and she said NO because they are not approved providers. Bare in mind their approved providers that we were able to use are only 5/6 companies! Whom they get booked up pretty easily. WEDDING COMPANY?! They are supposed to be called… I had to contact ALL the suppliers myself! In order to organise decorations(PAID SEPARATE) wedding cake (paid separate) hairdresser( paid separate for bridesmaids so I had to email the company to find out how much they charge for hair and make up)! Aren’t they supposed to be planning my wedding at my behalf?! I’ve called once spoken to Suzanne whom told me that she was busy with other weddings and I wasn’t her priority! Back In February I have then discovered that my wedding reception was WRONG! at the time all my invites were sent out already to all my guests, Suzanne to try to fix her cockups offered me a different date for the wedding however a few of my guests were effected by it, and her answer was :”Well if they want to be at your wedding they will make sure they are going to be there regardless of the changes!” Then cherry on top of the cake was the “supervisor” Kim that was extremely unprofessional, unapologetic, not willing to listen my concerns about the whole situation, asked about compensation as it was not our fault that the reception venue was assigned wrong, Kim’s reply was :”compensation isn’t a thing and you have sorted now right?! You have a new wedding date! Yes, I have but I HAD TO agreed to a new wedding date! Furthermore, I had a phone call scheduled with Suzanne, apparently she is out in Cyprus now, for 9am in the morning and my partner took time off as well to be present in the call. 09:05 no call was received so I’ve called her Direct line, no answer, then I’ve spoken to Tracy, which kindly offered to try to get hold of Suzanne and then called me back saying that Suzanne had a system issue wasn’t able to attend to the call( Internet problems) so then I’ve said, thank you for calling me back and let me know but sorry can somebody else not able to call me to warn me that Suzanne had some issues?! No because Suzanne’s diary only Suzanne can see it on her computer…. Right so I’ve questions, what would have happened if Suzanne would have been taken to hospital really poorly and unable to work, what would have happened to all Suzanne’s appointments!! Probably no one would have called them… cuz this company have no organisation whatsoever! Also Suzanne’s manager doesn’t have access to Suzanne’s diary!
Furthermore, I have also been informed because I’ve attended to the Wedding Show at the NEC that booking directly with the hotel would have cost us half the money and that all this communication issues wouldn’t have happened. They also do not have an onsite team at the hotel they just relay on the onsite local staff and wedding coordinator of the hotel. We are not happy at all of how WTC has handled any of the above incidents and how they resolved it and I would certainly not recommend them to anybody!
I have worked myself in hospitality and I have been a manager, also my mum is a wedding planner is Italy and she as well agrees that she has never seen anything shocking and poor service as this company! What a shame! Usually getting married should be a positive experience… this company only caused us issues and additional stress!
Best decision I made
I sent in a request online just curious, thinking I could never afford it. Sarah called me within 24 hours and was honest with me about my budget from the start. She told me about the venues she had recently visited, what she thought I would love, she asked about my budget and my non-negotiables. She then spent her afternoon building a list of 15+ venues that would be well within my budget that fit everything I wanted.
I chose 2 that Sarah then provided me with quotes for including a few things that I would need. From these, I chose my favourite venue (Palazzo Di P for the ladies looking to book, don’t fob it off because it looks expensive, talk to the company first!! So glad I did) and Sarah built the perfect package for me to include almost everything firmly below my budget. So much cheaper than the UK, and I have no stress now.
I was planning on booking in July, but ended up booking 2 days after my first phone call with Sarah because she found me the most gorgeous villa for well within my budget and we couldn’t let that offer pass! No words to thank you enough. So excited for my day to come!!
Incredibly dissatisfied
I booked my wedding on 8th April 2024 to get married on 14th September 2025. Today is 3rd July so over 14 months until we were due to wed. Unfortunately we needed to cancel our wedding due to a separation.
I emailed the planner whom I paid a £8,827 deposit too asking for a partial refund as the wedding is over a year away and no discussions have even taking place regarding flowers, decor, food choice etc. just simply that the date has been reserved and that I would be contacted a year before hand to arrange the details. To my horror I was advised I wouldn't receive a single penny back. Now I do undeterred it is a deposit and deposits are 'non returnable' however given the circumstances and the fact most vendors if any have even been paid a penny for the nearly 9k deposit.
I asked for a good will gesture for a partial refund and just was reminded it's 'non refundable'
I have since asked for a breakdown of what the 9k has been used for item by item as surely I can receive something for the 9k that I have paid with nothing to show for it. We had to pay a 35% deposit which is completely and utterly ludicrous. I agree with all the other negative reviews.. as soon as you pay your deposit you hear nothing. I am distraught that my life savings for a wedding have been taken with nothing to show for it. As I've said I didn't expect a full refund however I expected something back considering the wedding is 14 months away with no discussions ever being had with my 'planner' other than a large deposit. I welcome a valued response which isn't generic to the other negative reviews you have received along with an itemised bill for with the 9k has been used for.
UPDATE: I requested an itemised bill for what the £8.7k deposit had been used for as I have not been offered any partial refund. The response I received was inadequate:
"Hi Lia,
| am unable to provide an itemised breakdown of the £8,700 deposit you have paid.
I am sorry but I am unable to assist you any further or respond to any more emails."
So they have £8.7k of my money and refuse to tell me what it has been spent on?! And now suggest they won't respond to anymore of my emails!!!
You'll be hearing from my lawyer as there is no way I'm walking away from 8.7k.
Please avoid!
• We were not provided with any clear prior indication that TWTC would use subcontractors (Zante Weddings) based in Greece to facilitate our wedding on a local level. These subcontractors turned out to be truly awful, due to their poor communication, lack of foresight and simple lack of care towards us. This, coupled with language barriers and cultural differences, made the execution of our wedding ultimately a disaster. The lack of advance warning from TWTC that they used subcontractors, obviously meant that it took us by surprise and thus created unneeded stress and confusion for us during the planning stage of our wedding. We will review Zante Wedding separately (and in more detail) as is fair, but please avoid them like the plague if you are thinking of getting married in Zante– please just trust us and have an enjoyable wedding!
• When we eventually confronted TWTC regarding the above, we were told that Zante Weddings were in fact their “business partners”, despite us seeing very little communication between the two companies that would indicate a close working relationship. In fact, this contradicts something they said later in a phone call, that they are, in fact, subcontractors, which we assume was an accidental truthful slip as they then could not answer why this had been denied up until that point. To add to this, they refused to talk to each other directly and used us as the go-between – for example TWTC needed Zante Weddings to know that we had paid them their deposit, but they would not tell them themselves – all completely bizarre and clearly does not support TWTC claim to be close business partners with Zante Weddings.
• The moment we paid the deposit, we had complete radio silence from TWTC, despite us sending multiple emails to enquire as to what the next steps were. This obviously caused unnecessary stress and we even thought that they may have run off with our money at one point –this was supposed to be an exciting time but this caused much anxiety.
• When we finally managed to get hold of TWTC (having resorted to calling the sales number on the website), they stated that our previous handler (Leanne) had left the company, and this was the reason why we weren’t contacted. This shows a lack of due diligence and handover of responsibilities within the company. Thank goodness we called, as we do not know what would have happened – bearing in mind, we had already sent them £1000s of our money at this point.
• When we were finally assigned our next handler, we received an emailed "quote" on April 3, 2023, detailing the remaining outstanding funds and what they covered. However, there were several errors that needed to be addressed. We also had some specific questions related to TWTC, such as the purpose of the admin fee, and we requested a full itemised price list, which is neither unusual nor unreasonable. Consequently, we emailed back with some amendments to our quote:
- To discuss the above, our 2nd handler called my fiancée on 24th April 2024 on the phone while she was at work, with an incredibly confrontational and rude attitude.
o Their tone from the beginning of the call was aggressive, speaking over my fiancée the whole time even after my fiancée had calmly asked her not to.
o My fiancée was made to feel like any questions raised regarding her own wedding and the money going towards it, were unreasonable – for example, what the difference was between an admin fee and a wedding coordination fee (this has still not been answered).
o My fiancée was told to speak to Zante Weddings instead of TWTC and was made to feel like it was a huge inconvenience to know where our money was going. They kept repeating that my fiancée was not allowed to know what things were for or their cost because it was “just part of the package”.
o Her voice was getting louder and louder throughout the call, repeating my fiancée’s name until she was basically shouting. My fiancée had to calmly say that her aggressiveness was making her physically distressed (red faced, shaking, crying) and ask her to please calm down. At which point she did say it was not her intent, and yet her tone or volume did not change.
o Ultimately; she said we needed to make Zante weddings aware of the things we wanted to remove (again, bizarre that TWTC would not speak to their close “business partners” directly…) and furthermore, to this day, we have never received explanation of the admin fee or the itemised price list (so dodgy!)
- Bearing in mind that this was supposed to be an enjoyable time and that TWTC literally say their job (quoted from their website) is to make it easy with a “friendly team of wedding experts” to help you get your “dream wedding”; my fiancée was left crying and in shock from the phone call. She was in fact so loud, that all of my fiancée’s colleagues could hear the conversation and were in total shock – in fact, two colleagues who were engaged at the time, wanted to know who the wedding company was in order to avoid! Subsequently, we emailed TWTC with an official complaint asking for it to be escalated.
- Her manager responded to the complaint with another phone call to my fiancée and was initially very defensive, pretty much saying the same as handler 2 but in calmer tones. Surprisingly (not!), although they say they record calls (I assume for “quality and training purposes”), the phone call recording with handler 2 and my fiancée could not be found. Eventually the manager realised that TWTC were clearly in the wrong and changed her attitude slightly. We were then emailed an apology saying that handler 2 did not mean to upset us, and this was an internal matter – we have not received any further updates or outcomes to this “investigation”.
• The manager then became our tertiary handler, who for the most part handled the rest of the transaction OK. She rarely however CC’d me into our invoices, despite being asked several times (it really isn’t difficult to include the two people who are getting married in the same email chain). Furthermore, she did not make it clear to the subcontractors, Zante Weddings, about some key details regarding food and drinks which we had added onto our quote which prompted some further confusion over billing. The back and forth over the invoices and the many mistakes and details on there were truly demoralising.
• If you’ve got this far in our review – well done! I want to end by saying, that TWTC are essentially glorified travel agents and DO NOT CARE about your wedding. If you are getting married and looking for someone to take the stress away for an exotic, exciting wedding, please please do not use TWTC! You deserve an exciting stress-free time. If we can help one couple who sees this and does not book with them, we feel like we saved you! It’s nearly a year on from our wedding and we are still not quite over our experience and cannot even look at our wedding photos. My fiancée has had to have counselling over the terrible day and loss of funds that seemingly went quite wasted in many ways. We hope to one day be able to celebrate a day that should have been the best of our lives and was ruined. We’ll be doing another review for Zante Weddings separately.
Poor service and unprofessionalism
From the very beginning, communication with my wedding planner, Suzanne, was fraught with issues. Important details were either not communicated or were communicated at the last minute, causing unnecessary stress and confusion. Everything seemed like an uphill battle, when making very simple requests like "can I see some example of previous table plans", every response was sassy, unhelpful and incredibly unprofessional.
When I raised my concerns with Suzanne and even requested that she copy her manager into our communications, my issues were glossed over and never adequately addressed. The supervisor, who is supposed to remain impartial and look at both sides of the events, only reiterated the final outcomes without addressing the core issues I had experienced. As for the final outcome, my wedding was perfect but this was only due to Isabella in the resort were we were Wed, who works for a different company, she fixed the last of Suzanne's cockups as things were missing from the final list and she made sure the day ran perfectly.
The Wedding Travel Company will not action my complaint as they are only focusing on the fact that my wedding was great (and it was) but the process to get there was not.
The entire planning process, which should have been a joyous and exciting time, turned into a six-month ordeal filled with stress and attitude from someone who was supposed to be making the wedding planning process easy.
Providing a final outcome does not equate to good service if the process to get there is terrible.
I hope my review helps others avoid the stress and disappointment I experienced during what should have been a seamless and enjoyable wedding planning process. If anyone is looking to get married in Italy, go direct to Beautiful Weddings Italy and speak to Isabella, ignore these idiots at all costs.
