Taychreggan has been bringing peace and comfort to weary travellers for over 300 years now.
Taychreggan originally was a rest station on the cattle drovers route. It took great skill to captain a cattle drive through the Highlands. There were steep mountains, unpredictable weather, and furths and lochs to swim your cattle across. There were cattle thieves from rival clans watching and waiting for an opportune time to steal your cattle.
What a welcome sight the whitewashed stone walls of Taychreggan must have been to the drove captain. Here he could be indulged a bit, dining and sleeping in a cosy room overlooking the loch while outside his men slept in the sheltered courtyard, guarding the cattle from thieves like Rob Roy who had a hide-out nearby.
Today, Taychreggan offers the weary traveller much more than the humble hospitality of the past.

Taychreggan Hotel is a cozy waterfront wedding venue in Oban, Argyll.

Perfect wedding venue!

We recently had our wedding at Taychreggan hotel and couldn't recommend it enough! Having stayed there many times before, we felt that it was the most perfect, romantic setting for our special day and it did not disappoint! The staff were so friendly and welcoming and couldn't have done more to make our day run smoothly. Unlike other venues, Taychreggan don't have set packages and so you can tailor your day however you want. We booked out the venue for 2 nights and had our guests stay onsite. They arranged a BBQ for us on the first night followed by marshmallows at the fire pit. The actual wedding day went smoothly with the help of the staff and they set up all the decor just how we wanted so we could just enjoy the weekend! Special thank you to the Chef, Graham, who cooked an incredible wedding breakfast (the beef was perfect!) and also went out his way to make some special request items (irn bru sorbet!). Thank you also to the bartender Stuart who is very friendly and serves up the finest cocktails!
From initial contact the to wedding day itself, it all felt very relaxed and well organised. The whole thing felt very stress free!
We'll definitely be back to stay again in future!

Wedding at Taychreggan 2026

Our wedding was held at Taychreggan in June of 2026. We had stumbled across the hotel by chance on a previous holiday and fell in love with the spectacular view of Loch Awe and the quaint charms of the hotel.

We live in Surrey so organising the wedding remotely was not easy, however Pranav the GM at Taychreggan helped us through the process from start to finish and gave us much peace of mind to know matters were at hand. The hotel is a little dated, yet that adds to the charm. The food was decent and the staff were responsive and attentive. Pranav was flexible with holding the ceremony outside even with the changeable weather and gave us until the last hour for him to make the call. (Thankfully we didn't have to tell him we were having it outside whether he liked it or not!)

The value for money was excellent and the chef and bar staff were brilliant in our decision making processes before the wedding and again on the day. The rooms were nice and the bridal suite perfect for our needs as it adjoined via a communal hall another bedroom which we had the kids in, giving us closeness yet separation.

I can thoroughly recommend Taychreggan as a wedding venue. You need to be aware of the intricacies of the venue, the layout and the plan B if weather threatens to ruin your outside ceremony. We flew in for a couple of days a few months before the wedding to get the lay of the land and make some decisions and it was well worth the time and expense to do so.

Great thanks to Pranav and the team!
