About
ABOUT US:
Surrounded by 400 acres of woodland, Callow Hill is a family home that lies on the border of England & Wales, nestled on a hill with panoramic views over Monmouth to the South and The Black Mountains to the West.
Once a school and a film set for the 70's TV series "Survivors", it has been owned by the David family for almost a century.
Previously known for being the home of 'the hippies on the hill', it is a playground for adults and children alike, where deer and peacocks roam wild.
WEDDINGS:
Tried and tested, we have given many a party over the years and a number of family weddings on the hill.
With various venues at your disposal, we offer a blank canvas for you to craft your dream celebration for you and your friends and family. Whether it be a gathering of friends, a corporate event or a boutique wedding, we know what works and can advise on local caterers, entertainment, accommodation and travel.
VENUES:
- THE BARN:
From hay barn and chicken coop, to a trampoline play den, this majestic and bohemian party barn has evolved over the years with an eclectic selection of decor to suit. Equipped with two large double doors, it opens onto the house lawn, which acts as a perfect break-out space, with room for our Indian tents and fire-pits.
The barn is a flexible space that can be used for your ceremony, wedding breakfast, reception, or all three. If your wedding is 100 or under you have the option to eat and dance in here. Laid out across 4 levels with a log burner and vast open fireplace, one level lends itself perfectly to a stage for a top table, band or dance floor. Other amenities include: a mezzanine level, small adjoining kitchen, and WC.
- WALLED GARDEN
Just a short walk from The Barn, The Walled Garden is a wisteria laden, tranquil paradise; a magical venue for a drinks reception, complete with a fairytale entrance for the Bride and Groom, down into the garden from the overlooking tower room.
- THE MEADOW
Overlooking Monmouth and the Wye Valley, the Meadow (or front field as we like to call it) is in front of the house and tennis court, equidistance from the Barn and Walled Garden, and is the most versatile space of them all; perfect for an alfresco banquet, a tipi village for your guests, a large marquee or festival-style tent, or simply a car park - or even a hilly cricket or football pitch!!
It is accessed by a beautiful bridge made by the same skilled carpenter who made the bridge to the island and has worked with the family for over 40 years.
