About Rachael Meyer Humanist Ceremonies

I'm a humanist wedding celebrant, based in Harrogate and covering the whole of the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire as well as Leeds and York areas.  I'm SUPER PROUD to have been selected as a national finalist in the "Best Celebrant" category in the Hitched UK Wedding Awards 2020! I write and deliver highly personalised, non-religious wedding ceremonies that are a fantastic alternative to civil ceremonies for any couple wanting a bespoke, personal, relaxed, completely unique and memorable wedding ceremony. I'm a trained, experienced wedding celebrant, accredited by Humanists UK and I'm proud to be recommended by couples, fellow suppliers and several venues in the Yorkshire area.

With a background in writing, events, photography and video production, I'm a natural storyteller, a lover of people and a stickler for originality and detail. My style is smiley and chilled but highly professional and supportive. If you are looking for an extraordinary wedding ceremony that perfectly balances creativity, fun and personality with sincerity and importance, you're in the right hands! If you want a wedding ceremony done your way, with none of the rules and regulations of a civil or religious ceremony but with all of the pomp and circumstance of a traditional wedding, I'm your gal! Let's rip up the rule book and add some colour! Every couple is unique, so every wedding ceremony should be! Whether you're getting married for the first time or the second or third time; whether your families and guests are from different cultural or religious backgrounds, and whether your partner is the opposite sex or the same sex, you've come to the right place!

Humanist weddings are truly wonderful and they can be a lot of fun too! They're not legal ceremonies (you simply register your marriage at a register office), which means that they offer total freedom of choice of venue and script. You can have a wedding in your garden, in a tipi, in the woods, at a posh hotel, in a country pub or on a beach! All my ceremonies are completely inclusive, heartfelt, emotional and fun and include a presentation script for you to keep. They are designed for everyone to enjoy - and are a wonderful, warm and significant way to mark, celebrate and remember one of the most important days in your lives.

Your wedding can feature your own take on love and marriage, your own vows, secret letters from the heart, ring exchanges and certificate signing and/or a number of other symbolic acts such as hand fasting, ring warming, tree planting or a seven blessing flower ceremony. When we meet, we can discuss all the options and create something really bespoke that is totally "you". I will help you write your own vows (or will write them for you based on your individual story) and I can also suggest readings, song lyrics and poems that perfectly reflect your story, your love and your aims. Whatever you choose, it’s a ceremony that you and your guests will remember for the rest of your lives.

I love writing and delivering wedding ceremonies - nothing phases me, and in fact I have been known to rise to the challenge of delivering a completely bespoke ceremony with 24 hours notice! (long story).

I am a huge music fan, and have put together a Spotify playlist of over a hundred songs and tunes that you can use for inspiration. I also have a mains and battery powered, fantastic, portable, professional PA system with mics that is available for a very small charge, (eg for outdoor weddings with over 70 guests/in a field/in the woods or in a festival type setting.

At the wedding, you will have me -  a friendly, very smiley, relaxed and familiar celebrant - to guide you through the ceremony and put you at ease on your special day.

You don't have to be a humanist to have a humanist wedding ceremony - in fact many couples stumble across humanist ceremonies as an alternative if a registrar can't make it to their venue! And all are so glad it turned out that way! However, most people choosing a humanist ceremony resonate with humanist values of being kind, considerate and respectful of humans, animals and our environment, and enjoying and celebrating the one life that we have! Humanist ceremonies really are the best in my opinion - gold standard training, a network of colleagues and continuous professional development makes us highly professional, on the buzzer, creative, experienced and super friendly!

Photography and ceremony packages also available. Ask for details!

Thank you to my lovely couples, and SIRA Studio, Ben Jenkins, Ray Sawyer of Sawyer and Sawyer Photography, Duncan McCall and Amy Lou Photography for use of images.

  • "Book them !!!"

If you’re looking for a wedding coordinator or/and a photographer look no more! Rachael and Simon are some of the most genuine people we have ever met , hard-working and honest. We took the risk and paid for everything in advance (the prices were great) before the ceremony and we are glad we did, they did an outstanding job, Rachael showed true interest and excitement in our wedding from day one and was just super friendly and easy to talk to. She did a great job with our interview and script and the wedding ceremony itself was unique and so special thanks to this. Simon was just so much fun to be around and made everyone laugh which made us more relaxed for the photos. The photos he took were so beautiful that they almost reduced us to tears, the composition, the colours, the places he chose everything was just perfection and the photos look magical. Their daughter Georgia was very kind and offered to look after our puppies during the ceremony and play the music which was a bonus because it allowed our small audience to relax instead of chasing the dogs lol We can’t recommend them enough just book them!! :)

  • "Ceremony Review - Helen and Will"
This testimonial was entered by Rachael Meyer Humanist Ceremonies on 3 September 2019

Where to begin?! Rachael was an integral part of making our wedding day as special as it was - from our first conversation through to saying our goodbyes at the end of our ceremony, she was warm, welcoming and truly treated us as friends rather than clients. We had a wonderful meeting with her ahead of our wedding, where we had a lot of laughs together and she created a beautiful, bespoke wedding ceremony that perfectly captured us and our story. We received endless compliments throughout the rest of our wedding day about how the ceremony was so special, engaging and unique, with many saying it was the best they’d ever been to! There was the perfect balance of fun and laughs along with the ‘serious stuff,’ but Rachael’s ceremony set the tone for a perfect day. We are so pleased we pulled the plug on our original wedding arrangements and chose Rachael instead - she has a beautiful, poetic way with words and is so kind and considerate, she’s looked after us so well from start to finish. Just amazing!
