About Rachael Meyer Humanist Ceremonies

I'm a humanist wedding celebrant, based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. I specialise in writing and conducting highly personalised, non-religious, relaxed wedding ceremonies for couples across Harrogate, Leeds, York, the Yorkshire Dales and beyond.

Although you don't have to be a humanist to have a humanist wedding, couples choosing a humanist ceremony often resonate with the ethical, celebratory and non religious philosophy on life that humanists have - and they like the fact that they get to choose someone they connect with to conduct their wedding ceremony. Offering total freedom of choice of venue and script, my ceremonies are inclusive, heartfelt, emotional and fun. They are designed for everyone to enjoy - whatever their culture, religion, race, gender or sexual orientation - and are a wonderful, warm way to mark and celebrate one of the most important days in your lives.

Your wedding can be as formal, traditional, casual or low key as you like. It can feature ring exchanges and certificate signing and/or a number of other symbolic acts. When we meet, we can discuss the options and create something really bespoke that is totally "you".

With a background in PR, photography, video production and corporate event management, I am a natural story teller and a stickler for detail! I love writing and delivering wedding ceremonies - nothing phases me, and in fact I have been known to rise to the challenge of delivering a completely bespoke ceremony with 24 hours notice! (long story).

I am a huge music fan, and have put together a Spotify playlist of over a hundred songs and tunes that you can use for inspiration. I also have a mains and battery powered, fantastic, portable PA system with mics that is available for a very small charge, (eg for outdoor weddings with over 70 guests/in a field/in the woods or in a festival type setting.

I will help you write your own vows (or will write them for you based on your individual story) and I can also suggest readings, song lyrics and poems that perfectly reflect your story, your love and your aims. Whatever you choose, it’s a ceremony that you and your guests will remember for the rest of your lives.

At the wedding, you will have me -  a friendly and familiar celebrant - to guide you through the ceremony and put you at ease on your special day.

I can conduct a ceremony anywhere - the venue does not have to be licensed - so you can choose to have your dream wedding in a tipi, by a lake, in a woodland glade, in a barn, in a hotel, your favourite pub, on a beach or even in your garden. Your day, your way!

Photography and ceremony packages also available. Ask for details!

"So many people commented on how lovely the ceremony was and said that it was so personal, it was as if you had known us a long time. Thanks for creating a perfect ceremony for us" - LAURA and ALEX

  • "Wonderful ceremony, expertly delivered!"
    Vicki on 7 April 2019

We choose Rachael to host our humanist wedding couldn’t have make a better decision. After the legal ceremony our 40 strong wedding party retired to a pub in for the reception. We decided to hold the humanist ceremony after the evening guests had arrived. Racheal did such a good job of telling our story! She’s a lovely person that makes you feel completely as ease and the speech that she created was warm, funny and very romantic. The experience was really enjoyable. Meeting Rachael and being interviewed was like meeting an old friend and she made it really fun. We had plenty of time to review the words without pressure but Rachael made sure we were on track with timings. When planning we met Rachael at the venue and as she has a background in events she was able to liaise with the venue on the finer details to make sure that everything ran smoothly. Rachael and her husband also did our photography, this made the whole process really convenient, it limited the amount of different suppliers we had to deal with, and they had a really good understanding of how we wanted the day to work. The ceremony itself was a real treat. We had kept it a secret from our guests so to see a sea of faces smiling as Rachael spoke was lovely. We have had so many fantastic responses about the evening, the evening guests really felt they had played a part in our day as many were mentioned in the ceremony. I also appreciated receiving the folder with all of the ceremony detail in afterwards. It is a really lovely touch. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Rachael, she did such a sterling job and made the planning much more enjoyable too!

  • "There are many good celebrants, but Rachael is probably the best."
    Kevin on 6 April 2019

As guests at a wedding a couple of years ago we first saw the delight that a humanist ceremony gives to everyone present, it’s a lovely thing. So, in recently planning our own wedding, a humanist ceremony was something we wanted. Looking around you’ll find a sea of sameness, in a good way! Then we found Rachael, meeting up was easy and the process a breeze. What mattered most to us was the balance of love and fun Racheal created for us. Reading the draft ceremony, which was a pitch perfect mix of emotion and laugh out loud, instantly put us at ease and also meant hardly any extra effort for us. Rachael’s advantage here is her writing background, she is a gifted story writer and teller, this is the most important part of a humanist ceremony. Of course, on our big day, Rachael also deliverd it all with aplomb. 5 stars doesn’t cover it, don’t hesitate in speaking with Rachael. P.S. as if that wasn’t wonderful enough, Rachael (well, husband Simon mostly) can multi-task, their other business is professional photography. Our photos are glorious, worth every penny!
